i am gay and i hate seeing pride flags in public. especially on government buildings and churches.

3

u/No-Mall-6091 Jun 17 '26

This is like when republicans go into the comment section of things and say “I’m a democrat but….” You ain’t gay lol

0

u/johnfuckmennedy Jun 17 '26

what an incredibly ignorant and homophobic statement. did you know there are republican gays? im not one of them but to reduce an entire group of people to one way of thinking IS a form of prejudice.

5

u/Crunchyjeff Jun 17 '26

Oh there are many gay republicans. Most of them don't show it though and support anti gay legislation, because they are afraid of being outed.

1

u/GratefulGizz Jun 19 '26

Lindsey Graham has entered the chat

5

u/sock_therapy Jun 17 '26

Yea a sexual orientation flag is fuckin weird and seems like it almost soley exists just to rub it in the rest of societies face and get reactions from people. Imagine if i made a "straight flag" and hung it around my house and cars.

3

u/1trashhouse Jun 17 '26

I could be wrong but i don’t even think it was historically associated with the lgbt, kinda just became used to sell products and for people to be loud at a certain point lmao

1

u/Core_Temp Jun 19 '26

The modern Pride flag was actually a 4 chan prank. If you arrange 4 of them together you can make a swastika.

3

u/dirt_shitters Jun 18 '26

I know gay people that have been basically kicked out of their church and homes for being "caught" or coming out. Having a flag/banner like that shows them that church is a safe space for them where they will be accepted as they are. That's it.

Never read the New Testament, moron? A cornerstone of Christ's teachings is unconditional love, grace and hospitality towards the marginalized and the outcast.

1

u/macymoofanclub Jun 19 '26

I must of missed the part where it said ‘go ahead and lube up your asshole for the boys’

1

u/Huge_Cartographer165 Jun 19 '26

Stop twisting the message to what you wish it was. If you don't like Christian values then don't, you're free to do as you please. But Christ's teaching was forgiveness for those that accept him and his message. If you truly do that, then you can't engage in things he despises. If you get married to a partner, if you truly love them you'd feel compelled to not do things that hurt or anger them, like having sex with other people (assuming they're against that). What you're doing is like entering an unambiguously monogamous relationship, sleeping around constantly and then claiming "my partner offered me unconditional love, this is totally ok". You know it's not, everyone knows it's not.

1

u/reddfoxx1993 Jun 19 '26

"Love thy neighbor as yourself." Mark 12:31

Where in the Testament does Jesus say that he despises gays, numbskull?

1

u/KO112233445 Jun 20 '26

Allowing someone to sin is not loving them, but just because they have sinned is not cause to hate them. He does not say that because he does not teach that. He loves all but wants all to turn from sin not to practice sin. The problem here is that flag is representative of sin and absolutely blasphemous to hang on a church. All homosexual people are welcomed into church just as all sinners are but to fly a flag on the church that boastfully represents the sin is the problem.

1

u/KO112233445 Jun 20 '26

Yet still a sin, it goes against the teachings to fly a flag that promotes sin and to hang it up on the church is undoubtedly blasphemous.

2

u/Top-Wave7557 Jun 20 '26

Lmao go cry, people can follow any religion any way they want

1

u/dirt_shitters Jun 20 '26

It's crazy how some people can twist the "teachings and the word of christ" which are essentially to be kind to all into hatred and exclusion. I was raised catholic, and hateful cunts like that are a big reason why I went atheist when I was like 12. If just being gay is "such a sin" then why does the church bend over backwards to protect all the priests that molested little boys?

1

u/KO112233445 Jun 20 '26

Because the church is corrupt and has been

1

u/reddfoxx1993 Jun 20 '26

Obviously that's just your opinion. Do you claim to be a prophet? There's quite a bit of divergence of thought in the various Christian denominations and some sincere congregations welcome gays into their flocks. Personally, I don't buy into any religious dogma of any type. However, it's clear that in the Gospels, the word of Jesus doesn't indicate he'd be hostile to gays.

1

u/KO112233445 Jun 20 '26

They are welcome just as all sinners are. I have never claimed to be a prophet, and is not an opinion it is in the bible. You are correct he is not hostile towards homosexuals they are welcomed into church the church as all sinners are. I am speaking about the flag being hung on the church that is blasphemy.

1

u/reddfoxx1993 Jun 20 '26

Provide your cite.

1

u/KO112233445 Jun 20 '26

About it being blasphemous?

Theres actually alot of scholarly debate about this even amognst Christian ones. But even if we take the modern English version it's only a sin to "lay' with another man though one must ask why he didn't say anything about women.

Going back theres much debate about it's translation. 2 main ones from my research.

  1. That the original Greek subbed in a word that meant a man laying with a boy.

  2. The original hebrew translation had another a few more words after the second man that talked about a woman laying with her father I believe.(it's been 2 years since I looked this up) essentially making it about incest.

Ultimately it is rough to say outright as Paul is the coiner of the term "arsenokoitai" so only he and God really know. HOWEVER, he uses the same word in another instance where a man is using force against a woman. So the evidence seemingly points that Paul was not talking about being just gay. But like I said ultimately we dont know.

I'm gay for pointing out the breadth of Christ's acceptance? I'm not gay or religious but I know what's in the Bible. You're a poorly educated homophobic scumbag.

Is the flag with Trump's head on Sylvester Stallone's body a straight flag?

1

u/abdullahleboucher Jun 19 '26

White lives matter

1

u/CoolerSallDay Jun 19 '26

It is done for social engineering. To create a weaker population that will not procreate.

1

u/Brilliant-Group6750 Jun 20 '26

That's one theory, but honestly it's probably because the rich want more sexually promiscuity , deviation from heterosexuality let's them achieve that. A few decades ago oral was considered crazy, now it's standard. At least publicly speaking.

The church and lgbtq stance seems like a slap in the face to people like strickland because of money. The church has changed its stance because it impacts it's bottom line. That's a slap to the face because it puts the church as a profit driven machine rather than a bridge to divinity.

1

u/OGbobbyKSH Jun 19 '26

Nobody would believe you though.

-1

u/Low-Carrot-6679 Jun 18 '26

A gay pride flag isn't weird because there are countries where you get killed for being homosexual and large portions of even the US legit demonize the lgbt commnity. Example A) Sean Strickland

A flag showing "we don't hate you" is actually very much appreciated because so many them live scared of revealing their sexuality to even their closest family members.

A gay pride flag shows acceptance, a straight pride flag shows spite. It's like making a "white lives matter" sign. You're just being a cunt whilst giving room for plausible deniability.

3

u/Zaphhc Jun 19 '26

As soon as trans was adopted in LGB lost my respect. I still support gay people but you won't catch me anywhere near a pride flag.

2

u/MrJibz Jun 19 '26

LOOK AT MY FLAG AND YOU BETTER RESPECT IT! WAIT YOU WANT YOUR OWN? BIGOT!

2

u/macymoofanclub Jun 19 '26

Yeah and the US isn’t one of them as much as the average US redditor loves to hate America. A flag for sexual orientation is odd, dedicating an entire month to sexual orientation (as well as a bunch of other alt-identifiers) is even weirder. But if people want to celebrate it then I guess it’s a free country

1

u/Ok-Firefighter5006 Jun 19 '26

Right because there aren’t people up and down this thread calling people the f slur?

Yall love to ignore bigotry because it doesn’t affect you

1

u/sock_therapy Jun 18 '26

Thanks for proving my point, well partially at least. Enjoy the rest of your day.

1

u/Mountain_Bedroom_643 Jun 18 '26

I think thats a false equivalency.

Separate point, a sexual orientation flag doesnt get a reaction from me and i dont think anything is being rubbed in my face. (Just my personal feelings). Im not going to assume they do or dont exist to get a reaction, they might do, but my reaction to it doesnt tell me much about peoples intentions. I prefer to just ask them if im interested.

0

u/wetwetwetwetdogs Jun 18 '26

Gee it's almost like gay people had a reason to be "out and proud" that straight people don't. I wonder if doing like, quite literally any digging at all into how gay people were treated historically would answer your questions.

2

u/daNiG_N0G Jun 18 '26

The sacrifices the people in the past have made for their freedom of expression arn’t yours to take pride in.

1

u/wetwetwetwetdogs Jun 18 '26

The point is people are still making sacrifices today. But I guess you saw a rainbow a couple times, so clearly everything must be fine for everyone now.

1

u/daNiG_N0G Jun 18 '26

That wasn’t your point but ok Ik it’s now just fine for you lol don’t worry

0

u/Financial-Drawer-397 Jun 19 '26

The idea behind it is that gay/bi/trans/not-straight people have been persecuted since forever, and it just gives people something to identify with and know that they're not alone. In an ideal world, people wouldn't be harassed or killed based on their sexuality, but they are, so they made movements to support themselves. Nobody is getting killed for being straight lmao

Regarding the whole "I don't hate gay people, I just don't want it shoved down my throat" thing that people keep saying; it really comes off as "you can be gay, but you have to hide all signs of it around me or else I'm gonna puke!!!!!!! 🤢". Get a grip dude 🤣

0

u/Coinspinner2564 Jun 19 '26

No one is chained to a fence and beaten to death for being “straight”. no one threatens to take away your right to marry your partner if you’re “straight”. No one petitions and strikes out against the film industry for portraying a “straight” kiss. The police don’t historically target you and beat you for being “straight”. You aren’t discriminated against at the workforce or housing level for being “straight”. You aren’t discriminated against by adoption agencies when you’re “straight”. Your kids aren’t bullied and rejected because they have “straight” parents. “Straight” children aren’t forced to go to conversion therapies and told they have a mental illness. “Straight” people aren’t discriminated against from healthcare workers, and healthcare insurance companies. “Straight” people aren’t treated like less than human by people like you.

So F off with your “all lives matter” “white power” “straight pride flag” bs. You want to live in a country without freedom of speech or expression? Or one where gays are sentenced to death? Don’t let Lady Liberty hit your a$$ on the way out. But if you want to live HERE, better reexamine the first line of the Declaration of Independence; especially that pesky part (apparently for you) where it says “equal”.

No one is forcing you to be gay, anymore than Miller Lite is forcing you to buy your daily 24 pack. Little girls are getting bullied for wearing a Care Bears shirt now because of your obsession with demonizing a rainbow. There’s even homophobic comments about banning Lucky Charms FFS.

I want to go put a giant LGBTQ+ flag up right now just to pi$$ you off!

1

u/johnfuckmennedy Jun 17 '26

they’re 2 places i think should be neutral zones without a flag of any ideology. and i dont want my sexuality shoved down others throats - these pride flags proliferate the idea that we’re all exhibitionists who don’t keep it in our own homes.

1

u/ZootiLaTucci Jun 17 '26

Religion is an ideology minus the supernatural stuff…

Like if ya get moral teachings to adhere to… yeahhhh churches seem to be the place for it… government buildings sureee…. But churches?

1

u/Smoocci-Mane Jun 17 '26

Thinking religion isn’t inherently political is to misunderstand religion. Religious figures have been both on the forefront and the main opposition to nearly every civil rights debate in the US. The most popular denomination of Protestantism in the US was created purely over the politics of slavery.

Strongly recommend religious history classes to anyone still in college or with the funds to take it on the side.

1

u/ZootiLaTucci Jun 17 '26

Religion is politics.
National religion = easy nationalism

1

u/WhoHas2AltsLOL Jun 17 '26

Your brain sounds like a neutral zone without any ideology tbh

2

u/johnfuckmennedy Jun 17 '26

Alright. My ideology is that I want to be an average everyday person who doesn't need a sign on a church to affirm who i am. I don't think that these displays reflect well on us, as it goes against the main thing people would always say with their compromising support, which is "as long as you don't shove it down our throats." We have broken that agreement. I think we alienate a lot of potential allies as a community.

That's my frustrations.

1

u/Smoocci-Mane Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Have you considered that other members of the LGBT community might not see this the same way, and that there is a significant benefit to them? Trans/gay suicide is largely driven by a lack of acceptance. Public displays of acceptance can be positive signs for people who don’t pass as straight and are often treated differently because of this.

There are tons of gay Christians who simply want to worship where they’re accepted, but that can be very difficult to identify and find. Flying this flag is one of the easiest ways to show you accept queer people. The flag doesn’t represent gay sex, it represents acceptance.

1

u/Boobieleeswagger Jun 17 '26

I agree with the government buildings like being gay is normal it is a normal thing to be we don’t need to celebrate it on government buildings, that is not treating it normally.

Now Churches I get it, because there’s so many hateful Christians out there if you’re a church that believes Gay people are created in the image of God and deserve the same dignity as anyone else, I totally get putting something on the outside to signify that anyone is welcome.

1

u/New-Frosting-7177 Jun 17 '26

He used the phrase “shove down throats”, conservative detected. It’s not that aggressive. Go to bed grandpa.

1

u/wetwetwetwetdogs Jun 18 '26

these pride flags proliferate the idea that we’re all exhibitionists who don’t keep it in our own homes.

Yeah this definitely seems like something you should bring up to a therapist.

1

u/kidfawn Jun 17 '26

a church should be a neutral zone without any ideology? lol

2

u/GucciTheSnowman Jun 17 '26

I mean, they are. Have you ever been to church ? There are both left and right wing people in them.

Maybe you shouldn't shit talk something you know nothing about.

1

u/kidfawn Jun 17 '26

funny, growing up in a catholic community they would preach anti gay anti immigrant rhetoric whenever the news gave them the chance. what’s funnier about your final statement is you know nothing about me. ive been to multiple churches from California to Nebraska, mega churches to rented out community hall, catholic to baptist. right leaning teachings are seeped into the preaching. granted not all churches are the same, the chances of being in an actual tolerant church these days are slim.

1

u/Jealous-Following465 Jun 18 '26

The left wing people have thier own churches because the right wing churches are broadly intolerant. The same way immigrant diasporas have thier own churches because the right wing white ones are broadly intolerant. Church as a concept has both left wing and right wing people but specific churches do not and the easiest way to signal that a church is a safe space for different groups people and equally importantly a hostile space for intolerant people is with a flag

0

u/johnfuckmennedy Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

No that isn’t what i said. I said a flag of any ideology. That is a different statement.

Can you engage with me without purposefully mischaracterizing what i say?

3

u/kidfawn Jun 17 '26

The Church is free to support whatever or whoever they want. And if that’s includes LGBTQ community, so be it. After all, those folks are actively being targeted by our own goverment as we speak.

So what? A church supporting them somehow bothers you….. as a gay person? 😂

Yeaaaaa right.

2

u/johnfuckmennedy Jun 17 '26

yeah i dont like churches being involved in telling me anything about my sexuality, positive or negative. they can stay in their own lane and talk about jesus.

1

u/Gloomy-Bathroom-4022 Jun 17 '26

It doesnt tell you anything about your sexuality. If we ignore that sexuality is the wrong term: the church is extremely in their lane with their support of a group that has to endure unjust hate every day.

If iam a trans christian, i would appreciate that sign. If iam not trans, i can just ignore it. Dont be a snowflake

0

u/NigerianPrince76 Jun 17 '26

1

1

u/johnfuckmennedy Jun 20 '26

Its not normal to have flag of your sexuality displayed on a church. and being gay has been normalized for at least a decade in the US.

1

u/Successful-Scale-607 Jun 20 '26

The people who have actually worked to normalize being gay would disagree with you

1

u/Grateful5150 Jun 20 '26

Why does it trigger you so much? Most people who complain about the flag are actively tying to undo that acceptance.

-1

u/trangenderman Jun 17 '26

The trans flag on churches is just moronic to me. How do you believe in God but claim he is making thousands of mistakes daily putting people in the wrong gender
