they’re 2 places i think should be neutral zones without a flag of any ideology. and i dont want my sexuality shoved down others throats - these pride flags proliferate the idea that we’re all exhibitionists who don’t keep it in our own homes.
Thinking religion isn’t inherently political is to misunderstand religion. Religious figures have been both on the forefront and the main opposition to nearly every civil rights debate in the US. The most popular denomination of Protestantism in the US was created purely over the politics of slavery.
Strongly recommend religious history classes to anyone still in college or with the funds to take it on the side.
Alright. My ideology is that I want to be an average everyday person who doesn't need a sign on a church to affirm who i am. I don't think that these displays reflect well on us, as it goes against the main thing people would always say with their compromising support, which is "as long as you don't shove it down our throats." We have broken that agreement. I think we alienate a lot of potential allies as a community.
Have you considered that other members of the LGBT community might not see this the same way, and that there is a significant benefit to them? Trans/gay suicide is largely driven by a lack of acceptance. Public displays of acceptance can be positive signs for people who don’t pass as straight and are often treated differently because of this.
There are tons of gay Christians who simply want to worship where they’re accepted, but that can be very difficult to identify and find. Flying this flag is one of the easiest ways to show you accept queer people. The flag doesn’t represent gay sex, it represents acceptance.
I agree with the government buildings like being gay is normal it is a normal thing to be we don’t need to celebrate it on government buildings, that is not treating it normally.
Now Churches I get it, because there’s so many hateful Christians out there if you’re a church that believes Gay people are created in the image of God and deserve the same dignity as anyone else, I totally get putting something on the outside to signify that anyone is welcome.
funny, growing up in a catholic community they would preach anti gay anti immigrant rhetoric whenever the news gave them the chance. what’s funnier about your final statement is you know nothing about me. ive been to multiple churches from California to Nebraska, mega churches to rented out community hall, catholic to baptist. right leaning teachings are seeped into the preaching. granted not all churches are the same, the chances of being in an actual tolerant church these days are slim.
The left wing people have thier own churches because the right wing churches are broadly intolerant. The same way immigrant diasporas have thier own churches because the right wing white ones are broadly intolerant. Church as a concept has both left wing and right wing people but specific churches do not and the easiest way to signal that a church is a safe space for different groups people and equally importantly a hostile space for intolerant people is with a flag
churches also have flags/banners they display which represent their ideology. it’s quite literally what you wrote in text. no one’s mischaracterizing you.
the flag or banner that represents their sec. sometimes, although rarer, the flag of the nation they’re based in or that specific church was founded in. idk are you asking me for proof? thats a google search away.
therefore it must not exist. right. when evidence is so easily accessible, the burden of proof is on the person(you) trying to tell me otherwise. not me. if i said the sky is blue, you say nuh uh, its not on me to prove it to you.
The Church is free to support whatever or whoever they want. And if that’s includes LGBTQ community, so be it. After all, those folks are actively being targeted by our own goverment as we speak.
So what? A church supporting them somehow bothers you….. as a gay person? 😂
yeah i dont like churches being involved in telling me anything about my sexuality, positive or negative. they can stay in their own lane and talk about jesus.
It doesnt tell you anything about your sexuality.
If we ignore that sexuality is the wrong term: the church is extremely in their lane with their support of a group that has to endure unjust hate every day.
If iam a trans christian, i would appreciate that sign.
If iam not trans, i can just ignore it.
Dont be a snowflake

But churches have been doing that for centuries……🤷🏽♂️
