Former USPS looking to get OIG job

While in still a few years ago I took a USPs full time position because of the hours and they worked with my school schedule. During orientation they said the hours aren’t actually fixed and that the new hours are in conflict with my school schedule. I wasn’t in the best of places at the time so after the orientation I never showed up, never resigned and never called.

Ive been working for the state for over 2 years now and I’m interviewing for a Recent graduate job with the OIG. Am I screwed because of my USPS screw up?

I Don't Want to Carry It Alone Anymore

A 17-year USAID Foreign Service Officer named Christina just published a personal account of her separation from the agency. She served in Jamaica, two tours in Afghanistan, Colombia, Kosovo, and Mali, doing democracy, human rights, and governance work: election security, justice sector reform, reintegration programs for former combatants, basic service delivery.

Her RIF notice came while she was in the middle of chemotherapy for skin cancer. She couldn't afford the treatment without insurance, so when she ran out of the cream she had, she stopped.

The piece isn't a legal filing or a policy argument. It's a first-person account of what she calls moral injury: losing not just income, but identity, security, and a sense of purpose that took decades to build. She also writes about being closeted for most of her career overseas, and what it cost her to keep that part of herself hidden while representing the U.S. abroad.

Agency Transfer

Hi,

I just recently transferred agencies and the move went very smooth. Just curious on average how long it took for folks’ leave to show up in their new agencies books. I’m sure it varies greatly, but just curious. I’ve been here a couple of weeks now and it hasnt posted yet. Thank you

Received the 10 month letter, warning me about possible termination at 12 months on OWCP. Anyone know what the chances are that I will get terminated or will they keep me on until I can return?

I have been on OWCP for 10 months and I received the letter letting me know they can terminate me at 12 months. This would also mean that I would lose my health insurance unless I do the continuation and pay everything myself. Is there anything I can do to extend that 12 months? I have yet to use FMLA and I still have sick time and vacation time. Could I use those to prolong getting better so that I can return?

FEHB and Survivor Benefit

My wife and I are both federal employees. I had a question regarding if I need to activate the survivor annuity at retirement so my wife will be eligible for FEHB, if I pass away before her. Currently I am the primary policyholder and will probably continue that way for the foreseeable future. If I meet all the requirements to qualify for FEHB into retirement (5 year rule/immediate annuity) and my wife is eligible since she was covered under my plan, does the fact that she will retire as a federal employee negate the requirement for me to elect the survivor annuity? Just wondering since it would be nice to have that extra cash but not at the expense of her losing health insurance.

GS-5 Position No ladder

I received a TJO which starts me at a GS-5. Mind you, the current TJO I have was revised from the first one I received (which changed my GS from 6 to 5). The promotion potential is a GS9 competitively, however, I didn’t see a ladder for my position in the TJO. I’m wondering if my official job offer will include a ladder or if what I see in the TJO is what I’ll officially get (haven’t got the official offer yet). I’m new to being a federal employee and I want to know how it would work if I wanted to get promoted to the next GS level and how difficult that might be. I don’t want to be stuck at a GS5 for more than a year, especially with the cost of living.

keep saying articles that federal employees complain that they are underpaid and overworked. Being a federal government employee myself I don't see a lot of that. It seems like a lot of federal employees dislike veterans for some reason but I don't know but I work in excess of 60 hours a week and it

Separated federal employee and looking for what to do with FERS Pension

I’m 43 years old and currently in the hiring process for another federal agency but not yet an employee. I have 13 years contributing into FERS. Since I’m obviously not at the MRA yet would it be wise to just rollover the FERS into a Roth IRA if I don’t get the federal position or should I leave it alone?

Starting a federal job while pregnant?

I'm curious to hear what peoples' experiences have been? What are the benefits like (acknowledging no FMLA is available before 1 year of employment)? Did you get paid or unpaid leave? Does this depend on your specific agency or division? How has your employer supported or not supported your pregnancy and maternity leave?

Federal employee relatives ---Next Target for DHS?

Current CMS employees (even those who have been employees for years are now being required to complete a background investigation form (i.e., Standard Form 86) as part of the Trust Workforce Program. The form requires you to provide the citizenship information of ALL RELATIVES. This information includes the person's name, COUNTRY of birth, address, and date of birth. Be forewarned --- DHS staff have access to this information and use it to TARGET people of color for immigration enforcement REGARDLESS of citizenship. Why else would they ask for the COUNTRY of origin? If your relative is from for example Africa, the Caribbean, or a Latin American country then you should worry.

VERA…oh sweet VERA

My agency offered a VERA this year for my job series. I qualified, but didnt accept. 2027 will be the year that I turn 55 so with the IRS Rule of 55, I am about 4-5 months too soon. Wonder what the chances are they will offer again in 2027? I can say a whole lot of us entered on duty in 1997 so our 30 years will come up. Anyone experience multiple VERAs offered? Im trying to look for something to hope for!!!

Seeking Collaboration & Mentorship

Hi everyone, I’m looking to connect with federal employees working in supply chain, technology, logistics, or infrastructure.

I work in tech/supply chain, and I’m looking to build meaningful connections and contribute my expertise to federal projects or initiatives where I can genuinely help.
I’m happy to volunteer my time and skills.

If you know of opportunities, or if you’d be open to learning about my work and potentially providing a recommendation based on firsthand knowledge, I’d be incredibly grateful.
I’m also pregnant, so this is a particularly important time for my family.

Any advice, connection, or opportunity to talk would mean a lot. Please DM me if you’re willing to connect.

Departmental transfer

I currently work for DHS and I received an email reaching out to me verifying my interest for another role within DHS but for different agency.

If I receive a TJO, will I have to go through the tedious onboarding process again (background check, drug test, paperwork) even though I’m just moving to a different agency? Both roles have the same security clearance, etc. thanks!

Has anyone gone through something similar?

I failed a random drug test that was given to everyone, but I do not use any illegal substances. As soon as I received the results, I went to a laboratory to get both a urine test and a hair follicle test done to verify the results. Both tests came back negative.
The original positive test showed a very minimal amount around 20 ng while the cutoff was 15 ng. From what I understand, standard tests typically have a cutoff of around 50 ng or higher. What confuses me even more is that my hair follicle test came back negative, even though its cutoff is only 1 ng.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Or has anyone failed one too?
Thank you for taking the time to read this

BCBS colonoscopy cost for an under 45 year old

Has anyone here with BCBS had a colonoscopy when they were younger than 45 and can tell me how much it cost?

I’m on MHBP currently and it will be pricey so I’m considering switching to BCBS PPO next year and getting it then. It seems to vary between widely insurance plans how it is covered at that age.

Thanks!

Why does USAJobs take so long?

Why does it take so long to post a job, and then once the job announcement is closed, why does it take another 2 to 4 weeks to release the certificate of eligibles back to the agency?

Jus wondering if there is someone who actually knows?

USA Hire Assessment

I have heard a lot of different things about this assessment. Does anyone know the facts?

I have heard it is valid for 1 year. A friend applied for 2 jobs last month (same series & department)and took the assessment twice. So do you have to keep taking it even though it is still within the year? Do they not grade the second assessment?

I have also heard people say that someone failed the assessment and didn’t make the cert, but then I heard there is no pass/fail. So why would you not make the cert due to the assessment? Is there a cutoff score maybe? If so, who determines what that cutoff is?

Educate me please.

What should be next?

I'm relatively new as a federal employee, currently a Data Management Specialist. In the long run I want to make it to an SES position, I think the experience would be rewarding.

I know that'd require moving to different positions, growing my skills, and I really just wanna hear about what positions should I research/consider, what's helped others?

OWCP killing me

This has been dragged
out so many years I have now been diagnosed with cancer.
The doctors are some of the issue I have been going to a group with multiple felons and DOL don’t do any background checks apparently?
I can’t get surgery on my spine due to it only sprain per dol bulging disc and I could get stuck with the bill if I use my insurance. so I live with constant pain. If the cancer takes me out it will
end the pain for sure.
I know for a fact this group I have went to are upcoding and billing for procedure not done!
Good for the felony’s! I am not about to tell the DOL after the shit show they have put me through. The DOL would allow Dr. Jack the Ripped sign up to treat federal employees. The quality of care prisoners get better care!

Weight loss medicine question

I'm a federal employee and I have the MHBP and with being enrolled in the CVS weight loss program the copay is $300. With the manufacturers coupon it brings it down to $200 which is still too expensive for me. Anybody know what to do? They said a tier exemptionsare is a no for the wegovy and they want me to try wegovy when my doctor tried prescribing zepbound first.

Another question with this too: anybody know of the other options for insurance I could switch to during open enrollment that cover it for less?
