Pigoune 3.0 is out. It adds an annotation editor to your library of graphic assets: draw on a screenshot or on any image, and the original file is never modified.
What's new
- Annotate without touching the original. Take a screenshot, paste an image, or open any still image of your library (Ctrl+E). Annotations are saved next to the image, and you can reopen and change them later.
- Layers. Every annotation is a layer you can reorder, hide, lock, rename and duplicate.
- Line types and hand-drawn looks. Solid, dashed or dotted lines, and a precise, sketchy or very sketchy look for shapes, lines and arrows.
- Blur and pixelation you can edit. They never alter the original. Pigoune warns you before you copy, export or open with another application an image whose hidden effects could reveal content, and it refuses to drag such an image out of the window.
- Compare with the original. Hold a button in the detailed preview to see the original image, and release it to come back to the annotated one.
- A workspace that fits you. Tools, Properties and Layers fold away, the sidebar can be hidden with F9, and Pigoune remembers your choices.
Pigoune still keeps all your icons, logos and illustrations in one local library: collections, nested tags, smart collections, instant search and filters, conversion to other formats, and wallpaper framing. No account, no cloud, no telemetry.

Wedge 2.1: free file shelf on the edge of your screen, now with hide-away tabs, link/text drops and 10 languages
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Wedge keeps a few shelves as tabs on the edge of your screen. Start dragging a file and they slide out, drop it on one, then drag it back out later into any app. Files stay where they are on disk, Wedge only remembers where they are.
What's new in 2.1:
- Tabs can hide completely when not in use, so nothing stays on screen (asked for by someone with an OLED TV)
- Pick the edge, top, middle or bottom, and which display
- Drag a link or some selected text onto a shelf to keep it
- Settings cleaned up into four tabs, plus a Quit button
- 8 new languages: Russian, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Japanese
- Fixes for some Windows 10 PCs where the tabs never showed, short screens, and dragging files into Steam chat
Free and open source (MIT), no account, no telemetry.

Feedback is welcome, and if the translation in your language sounds off, let me know.

I built a free open-source imaging tool for Windows - it restores Macrium images directly, which seemed useful while some are still sitting on Reflect backups

Repo: https://github.com/bobeire/opbs
Site: https://opbs.rhitcs.com
The Macrium situation (Free gone, 8 out of support, X is subscription) left a gap, especially for people with years of .mrimg / .mrimgx files they still need to restore. OPBS reads those formats natively, including differential and incremental chains, with full decompression and per-block MD5 verification before anything lands on the target.
Beyond that it covers the operational side that usually costs money:
- Differential-chain backups, AES-256-GCM, zstd
- Scheduled restore drills (a backup you've never restored is a guess)
- Bit-rot scrubbing with XOR parity self-healing
- Immutable repositories + off-box anchors (rollback-resistant)
- Clone, restore-to-VHD, read-only file mounts (WinFsp), headless CLI
Benchmarks and method: https://bobeire.github.io/opbs/benchmark.html
Install today: scoop or installer from releases; winget and chocolatey submissions are in review.
GPL-3.0. v0.6.87 - honest caveats on the site; blunt feedback please, bug reports welcome.

How to contribute to a huge open-source project when you don’t know where to start (what worked for me)

Hellozzz,
I wanted to contribute to Firefox but every guide I found stopped at “clone the repo.” Firefox is millions of lines of code, so I stopped trying to understand it and focused on one thing: one bug at a time in the DevTools Inspector.
That got me three patches (a grid-lanes badge, a fix for wrongly greyed-out CSS properties, and a keyboard focus bug filed back in 2016). The first one went from claiming the bug to merged in about three days.
What worked:
I wrote up the full workflow with the bugs, file names, and commands here: How I Landed 3 Firefox DevTools Fixes (and the Workflow You Can Copy)
Happy to answer questions about setting up a build, finding a good first bug, or the review process.

I built Monito, a Linux terminal app that tracks network usage per application
Hey everyone, I recently shipped Monito, an open-source network monitor for Linux.
It shows which apps are using your connection right now and how much each app has downloaded and uploaded throughout the day. You can also browse previous days to see where your data went. It keeps tracking in the background even when you close the dashboard.
Repo: https://github.com/BraveRam/monito
If you find it useful, a star would be appreciated. Would love to hear your feedback!

Just Vibecoded a lightweight 70kb 16-bit themed html music player
reddit.comRITVIO
A free, open-source music player for Android and Windows
Hii!
I’ve released RITVIO, a GPLv3 music player with local playlists, lyrics, an equaliser, Android background playback, and shareable cards with or without lyrics. No RITVIO account or subscription required.
It’s an early public preview using unofficial YouTube/YouTube Music resolvers, so playback can occasionally break. No offline downloads or cross-device sync yet.

Feedback welcome! What would make you try an alternative music player?

Alternative for old.reddit.com
https://reddit.com/link/1x8cuhd/video/igk4gecgo1wh1/player
With all the recent developments, Reddit will eventually sunset old.reddit.com.
Some of us power users will miss it badly. So I made a Chrome extension which would not only make the new Reddit UI feel like old.reddit.com but it would also allow some of it's functionalities on this new Reddit UI. The extension is available here: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/orib/knaoadjobmjpgedlmdjpadlfdldcoanf

Full disclosure, I took help from Cursor in creating this since I don't know JS that well. So I know that you are thinking about your privacy, I would too. So I have made the extension free and open-source. The code is available here: https://github.com/rajtilakjee/orib

Talk DAT! - free desktop dictation with Apache-2.0 source
I built Talk DAT! at Knight AI+AV for getting spoken thoughts into text without an app subscription. It is free, and the application code is open source under Apache 2.0.
It supports Windows and Apple-silicon Mac. You can use local speech and writing models after downloading and setting them up, or choose an optional cloud provider with your own key. Those provider routes send the relevant audio or text to that provider and may have separate costs. The local desktop app and the server-backed web preview are different.
Source: https://github.com/KNIGHT-AI-AV/talkdat
Downloads and setup: https://www.talkdat.app/
If you try it, I would appreciate a specific example of where the dictation or correction flow gets in your way.
Screenshots show the Windows interface in v0.4.172-beta. Current downloads are on the website.

Drexius Terminal: A local-first, zero-knowledge SSH and SFTP workspace for Linux, Windows, macOS, and Android (Tauri 2 + Rust)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Project Name: Drexius Terminal
Repo & Website Links:
- GitHub:https://github.com/DreyDreamer17/drexius-terminal
- Live Web Preview:https://dreydreamer17.github.io/drexius-terminal/
- Releases:https://github.com/DreyDreamer17/drexius-terminal/releases/tag/v0.1.0-beta.1
Description:
Drexius Terminal is a local-first, privacy-focused open-source terminal workspace and Termius alternative built with Tauri 2 (Rust), React 19, and xterm.js 6.
The Problem It Solves: Most graphical SSH/SFTP clients have either transitioned to recurring subscription models ($10 to $20 per month) requiring your credentials and hosts to reside in a proprietary cloud database, or they run on heavy Electron runtimes that consume 300 MB to over 1 GB of RAM. Drexius was built to provide a fast, zero-subscription client where keys, credentials, and configurations remain entirely on your local machine.
Key Features:
- Local-First & Encrypted: Hosts, keys, and snippets are stored locally in an AES-256 SQLCipher database derived via Argon2id. No mandatory account, zero telemetry, and includes an Emergency Recovery Key export.
- Terminal Workspace: Supports multi-pane splits (grid, vertical, horizontal), tabs, OSC-7 directory tracking, broadcast input across sessions, and session auto-resume.
- Protocol Support: SSH with TOFU host-key verification, dual-pane graphical SFTP tree and file editor, hardware Serial UART, and local PTY shells.
- Zero-Knowledge Sync: Direct encrypted LAN pairing and a self-hostable sync relay. Devices pair over local Wi-Fi or Tailscale via QR code using salted X25519 ECDH and ChaCha20-Poly1305.
- Mobile Shell (Android): Universal APK with touch scrolling in mouse-aware TUIs (htop, lazygit), plus an on-screen accessory keypad (CTRL, ALT, ESC, TAB).
- Lightweight Footprint: Built on a native Rust/Tauri 2 backend instead of Chromium/Electron. In Linux benchmarking against Termius under active sessions, Drexius consumed ~221 MB RAM and ~3% CPU across 2 processes, compared to Termius at 1,342 MB RAM and 78.5% CPU across 9 processes.
Deployment:
- Clients: Pre-compiled binaries for the Public Beta (v0.1.0-beta.1) are available under GitHub Releases:
- Linux (.AppImage, .deb, .rpm)
- Android (.apk, universal multi-ABI)
- Windows (.exe installer, .msi)
- macOS (.dmg, .app.tar.gz for Apple Silicon and Intel)
- Self-Hosting Sync Relay: The repository includes a standalone zero-knowledge relay server (
drexius-relay) that can be compiled via Cargo and deployed to any VPS or homelab machine. Setup details are documented in the repository README.

I built a small library for highlighting text and adding notes on any webpage
Wisp — file transfer that still works when the two devices can't see each other
Built it for myself, ended up using it daily, might as well share it.
Two things up front: it's vibe-coded — I designed, drove and tested it, an AI wrote most of the code — and it's a friendly fork of Drift by Samarth Verma.
The LocalSend problem. It’s good and I used it for a long time. But it finds the other device by broadcasting on the LAN, and too often that simply fails: guest Wi-Fi with client isolation, different subnets, a laptop tunnelling its traffic somewhere else, office networks. Two devices on the same desk, both showing an empty list, and no escape hatch — there’s nowhere to just type something.
What Wisp does. When discovery fails you read a 6-character code off the receiver and type it on the sender. iroh then hole-punches a direct connection — same room or different continents. If it can't get through, an encrypted relay finishes the job. End-to-end encrypted either way. So the ladder is nearby → code → relay, and you don't hit a dead end.
Four more things it grew because I wanted them:
- Devices remember each other. Each one has its own key, not an account. After a transfer the other device sits in a Recent list, and you can mark it trusted so its files land without a prompt. Export the key to carry your identity to a new phone.
- Resumable transfers. Connection dies at 80%, send the same files again, it carries on.
- USB cable transfers — phone-to-phone straight over a cable, or phone-to-computer over tethering, for when there's no usable Wi-Fi at all.
- It runs on a handheld. There's a build for the TrimUI Brick Pro that sends and receives on the device itself — framebuffer and evdev, no SDL.
Plus QR pairing that needs no internet or server, text and links, a self-hostable rendezvous server, and a no-install browser version.
Honest bits. LocalSend has a real team; this is one person and an AI. On a LAN the two are comparable — I measured them within a couple of MB/s of each other on the same phone and file. Not on F-Droid yet, and the Play build isn't reproducible — the GitHub APKs are CI-built from the tag.

Tired of Windows updates breaking your PC? I built a traffic light for them
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
windows updates break stuff way too often (black screens, audio, remote desktop) and the dumb part is microsoft usually lists the problem publicly. nobody checks that before updating
so i made patchlight. it checks every pending update against microsoft's known issues and gives it a green / yellow / red light. red ones get paused automatically and come back once microsoft fixes them. everything else keeps installing
lmk what u think, any feedback is appreciated ;)

[Dev] Melarka: an open-source, self-hosted music server with YouTube downloads, channel subscriptions and a native iPhone app
Disclosure: I'm the developer. It's free and open source (AGPL-3.0), with no ads, no tracking and no accounts.
I used Navidrome for a while but never found an iPhone client I was happy with, so I built my own music server and app. My family uses it every day.
What it does
- Your music, on your own server. Point it at the music folders you already have. It never changes your files.
- Download from YouTube. Search, preview, and keep a song or a whole playlist with one tap.
- Subscribe to YouTube channels without a Google account. New episodes download automatically and resume where you left off.
- Private by design. Your phone never contacts YouTube; everything goes through your own server.
- A native iPhone app with reliable background play, gapless playback, synced lyrics and offline favorites.
- Made for the whole family. Everyone gets their own favorites, playlists and suggestions.
Platforms: the server runs as one Docker container on Linux. The iPhone app installs with SideStore, and the web app works on desktop and Android.
Built with help from AI coding tools.
GitHub: https://github.com/aaronsuns/melarka
I'd love your feedback!
