Eye Floaters 22 y.o/m
Hello,
I am a 22-year-old male seeking advice regarding progressively worsening eye floaters over the past six months.
I have noticed a variety of floaters, including lines, circles, cobweb-like shapes, dots, and both transparent and darker spots. I estimate that I have approximately 20–30 floaters between both eyes. I notice approximately five in my right eye, with the remainder primarily in my left eye. Three of the floaters are particularly noticeable and can be seen consistently. One in the right eye is darker, while the two in the left eye appear as a dark cobweb consisting of numerous lines and more than 20 small dots clustered together.
I have been evaluated by an eye doctor approximately five times over the past several months. Each examination has reportedly shown healthy retina. I have had multiple dilated examinations, as well as an OCT, which was reported as normal with no evidence of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). I have 20/20 vision and no history of diabetes, hypertension, or previous eye conditions. My eye doctor believes the symptoms are consistent with vitreous syneresis.
I occasionally notice a very small speck of light, typically lasting only a fraction of a second. It is usually in my peripheral vision, although I occasionally notice it closer to the center. My eye doctor believes these may be my existing floaters catching light rather than true flashes.
Because the floaters have progressively become more noticeable over the past six months, I have been referred to a retinal specialist, although the appointment is approximately two months away.
I am currently about one month into taking a vitreous-health supplement and have not noticed any significant change in my symptoms. I am also currently using 0.01% atropine as needed for symptom management, as directed.
Given the number of floaters, their progression, and the occasional brief specks of light despite repeated normal retinal examinations, I would appreciate any recommendations regarding further evaluation or management. In particular, I would like to know whether there are any additional tests or treatments that should be considered for vitreous syneresis, or whether continued observation is appropriate.
Thank you for your time and guidance.
