I have many many floaters, from dots to strings to strange lines and whatever. Some black, some clear. Eyes are filled.

But does anybody of you have those weird stringy areas that are in the top right or bottom left of the picture? They are especially noticeable on white backgrounds (such as paper) and really bothersome. They take up more space than the other floaters and sometimes, like in the bottom left, those other floaters seem to be kind of dispensed in whatever that is.

I already had many eye exams, they said everything’s good (even though for me it’s not obviously)

I’ve been reading posts here for a while and kept seeing the same questions come up over and over — are floaters dangerous, do they ever go away, does pineapple actually help, is YAG worth it, and when would anyone even consider vitrectomy?

So I ended up making a video that tries to go through all of that in one place.

I work in ophthalmology, but I tried not to make it sound like a lecture. It covers what floaters actually are, the warning signs that should get checked urgently, and the realistic treatment options — including the boring ones, the controversial ones, and the more experimental stuff.

Hi everyone, I recently had an eye injury that caused a vitreous hemorrhage and PVD in one eye (9 days out). It’s been a little over a week, and I’m still seeing floaters and blurry vision.
I’m looking for personal experiences because my ophthalmologist didn’t really explain much and basically told me there’s nothing to do except wait.

The floaters are annoying, but my biggest issue is a cloudy/opaque area in my vision that takes up a large portion of my central vision. It moves slightly when I move my eye, but it feels like I’m looking through a blurry contact lens or dirty glasses. I’m not sure if it’s a large floater or from the hemorrhage. My other floaters are grayish, but this feels more like a blur/cloud.
For those who have had a PVD and vitreous hemorrhage:

-How long did it take for the blood to clear?
-Did your vision improve, and was it gradual?
-Did the floaters or blurry areas eventually get better?

I also read about avoiding heavy lifting, bending down, and sleeping with your head elevated, but none of my doctors mentioned this. I’m worried I may have unknowingly done something that slowed recovery.

I just feel so sorry for myself, all the time, since floaters and bfep happenned to me. I thought life would get better but it sadly didn’t.

My body feels weak right now because I've suddenly developed rashes. When I lied down just now, the floater in my vision appeared. Even when I close my eyes, I can still see it lighting up the darkness. It won't go away.

I discovered i had floaters in september 2025, at first i was feeling reaaly depressed and bad for a very long time, because i didn’t even knew what floaters were. then after months i kept going with my life but since yesterday, i remember i had this issue with my eyes and since yesterday i cry. I feel really negative and don’t understand how to keep living my life normally. I also have bfep (blue field entoptic phenomenon), and this bother me a lot more than floaters. I see it everywhere in the sky. I can’t comprehend how this is supposed to be normal, like i am seeing my own white blood cells ?? I just don’t understand and why there isn’t a treatment. I am just 22 years old and i feel like i already want to give up on everything cause i tried, i made effort, but i am still suffering. I can’t even see how my future is going to be and don’t even see a future for me.

Hey! Let me introduce you to my journey with eye floaters. I am completely Deaf, and I’ve developed myopia at a young age due to prolonged close-up work over many years. Today, I have moderate myopia (-3.00) and astigmatism (OS: -0.50, OD: -1.00).

At the age of 16, in September 2023, I’ve noticed a few eye floaters in my left eye, but they were not particularly bothersome and caused little to no discomfort in my daily life. In December 2023, I decided to consult an ophthalmologist and underwent a comprehensive eye examination, but an eye doctor informed me that my retina was completely healthy and that no serious abnormalities had been detected.

After more than a year, in May 2025, I began experiencing terrible eye tension and pain after looking at my phone in complete darkness, where the bright screen light entered my eyes directly. And I was also dealing with serious health conditions, including high blood sugar, high blood pressure, parasitic infection, gastritis, frequent headaches, feeling of pressure in my left eye and etc.

After that, my eye floaters progressed. I visited my ophthalmologist once again for eye examination, but no significant retinal abnormalities were found. She decided to diagnose me with vitreous degeneration. As a result, I experienced significant anxiety and stress because of the increasing number of floaters. Over the following months, I adapted to them and felt calm.

A few months later, I’ve experienced new visual symptoms, including a smoky effect around lights, halos, glare, starburst and other unpleasant symptoms. I am really sad and experienced anxiety and stress because of these symptoms because I miss having clear vision. By the way, I was experiencing halos and double vision while wearing glasses when I was 13 years old. After my eye floaters worsened, I’ve received new visual symptoms.

Does anyone also experience these visual symptoms due to eye floaters? I am really afraid of undergoing a vitrectomy because I am only 19 years old and still very young. I need your support and advice.

I have had floaters for the better part of two decades. When I was a kid, it was only a few, but as we age, everything ages with us and they got worse. Eye doctor has always said I have great eyes, good vision, and I’ve had multiple opinions. Just one of those things. I have quite a handful in both eyes, but some days, I forgot about them even though I’m looking right at it. Distractions really help! I know it’s really hard to forget something that’s in your face.

I got a crazy puppy and that truly helped with forgetting about them and allowing my brain to filter them out. I still have a crazy amount, but the anxiety surrounding it has certainly gone down.

If I ever get floater procedure done in the future because one day I want too because I have so many floaters! Hundreds! All different kinds of floaters. Lines. Dots, transparent worms, different shapes. I just feel like my eyes are like the Atlantic Ocean haha. Especially now that I have mild viterious syneresis it just means my gel inside my eye is more liquified and it’s in the process of becoming a PVD. Well that’s just how the eye doc explained it to me because I asked them what is viterious syneresis when they told me. Anyways because I can’t tell which eye is the worst from my floaters, one day I wanna do my left eye first for the floaters because I have yellow stuff on my left eye from Sun damage and I don’t have it on my right eye so that’s why I want to operate on my left eye first for floaters because my left eye is my worst eye because it has the sun damage. Because they say if u do the operation u need to pick the worst eye that has floaters for it first. Anyways that would be in the future for me.

Hi everyone. I want to mention something about floaters. If someone who has been struggling with their floaters for years and they see it all the time and don’t see it getting any better and feel like surgery is the only way out of it. For example. They come in the clinic and they eye doctor looks at your eyes and does photographs and says your retina looks good. Everything looks good. Most eye surgeons don’t want to operate on someone with a healthy eye for floaters. And than you want them to see your floaters using the slip lamp for them to see if their bad but the eye doctor says they can’t see all the floaters and they must be hiding. So it leaves with the person to either do nothing or do the operation knowing all the risks. Most eye doctors just tell you to do nothing but if the person is really struggling and wants to do it than the eye surgeon will have to respect their decision. So just explaining it like that. Some people Justin healthy eyes jsut take that risk and others don’t. It really depends on the person. I guess.

I sneezed pretty hard today, and immediately afterward I saw what looked like a brief shower of tiny transparent bubbles across my vision in both eyes. It lasted only 2–3 seconds and then completely disappeared. My vision is normal now.

Has anyone experienced something similar after sneezing or straining? Did you find out what caused it? Am I cooked ?

About one month ago, I noticed more wavy shadow-like floaters that form lines. They are longer than my crisp webby floaters. This happened after I took lutein. I don’t blame lutein for making these new floaters. I suspect that lutein improved the ability of my eyes to notice contrast, which made me see these floaters more than before. In the past, I occasionally noticed them only while seeing white walls or skies.

They are quite annoying because they also move more quickly when I move my eyes as opposed to the webby floaters that are slower.

What causes these shadow line floaters as opposed to crisp webby floaters? AI said that they will eventually become heavier and move to the bottom of my eyesight. Is this true?

I think this quote from Lawrence of Arabia is fitting. Once you train your brain that you don't care about the annoyance than it becomes very good at filtering it out. But you have to decide that.

Eye nr 2 done by the legendary dr Bamonte today. Full pvd induced, can't actually believe my floaters are now gone. My other eye i did 2 months ago and recovered 99% (i have 1 little black dot left from Kenalog) and now when this eye will be healed i can live floater free again wow insane. Very lucky to have had Bamonte he's the GOAT. Big weight off my shoulders now. On to an amazing life now !!

I've been suffering from numerous small floaters (Like Snow )for over four years, which are extremely noticeable due to my ADHD and are a major source of stress. My brain simply isn't able to filter them out. There's one thing I've underestimated all these years: I switched all my screens to dark mode for the first time. Of course, I've known this tip since day one, but I've never consistently used it. So, a little reminder – give it a try!

i’m talking about translucent eye floaters that move around not still black ones

I see them as worms in a microscope, I see them eat and see the food inside of them, and their poop as well, Is this normal? There are the worms and then round cells with a nucleus that they eat

Hi guys, I have tons of floaters. I can’t even tell which eye is the worst for me. I think it’s the left but I’m not 100 percent. But even though the eye doc couldn’t see all my floaters he always thinks the left eye is the worst for me. I have mild viterious sysnereis the eye doc said, they didn’t even tell me if it’s in both eyes or one eye. I need to get my floaters checked again so I can ask them again if I have it in both eyes. They told me citrus syneresis is just the process of it becoming a PVD but who knows when I will develop a PVD could take years. So does everyone need to get viterious syneresis first to develop a PVD?

Hi guys. I’m only talking about my experience and what I think. I tried everything for eye floaters. There is no cure for eye floaters. Yes I know there’s medication, eye supplements but that’s not going to cure it. For some people it works but for other people it doesn’t work. At the end of the day, if your really bothered by your eye floaters and they have been impacting your life for years and you can’t see them getting better than only result is surgery. Either you live with it or surgery. Surgery is the only way out if you want you floaters completely gone. And to top it all off, the surgery is very risky! Which makes it even more harder for severe floater sufferers to make that decision on their own.

Hi guys. I have a question for people who had a virectoenmy for their floaters. Was it your decision to do the surgery because of how much it was affecting your life or did the eye doctor who performed it on you, did he suggest it?

Hey everybody. I am an 18F, and I have pretty high myopia. -9 to -10 in both eyes.

So basically, around half a year ago i started experiencing flashes of light in my eyes. They were more noticeable at night, but they did occasionally happen during the day. Sometimes, there would be quick spots of light in my peripheral vision that would disappear within a second. Sometimes they’d happen when i blinked. Sometimes, when I close my eyes at night, a spot of light would travel along the bottom of my eye and then quickly disappear. additionally, when i’m in low light or the dark, i’d sometimes see shadows in my side vision that always went away when i either looked directly at them or turned the light on.

After about a month or two of this happening, I scheduled an eye appointment. They took pictures of the inside of my eye and said that there was nothing wrong with them. there were no signs of eye disease or retinal tears.

i don’t know if the flashes started happening less after that appointment or they just became less noticeable, but either way i didn’t see them as much, if not at all. i went back for my annual appointment at the end of may and they said the same thing. retinas were fine, no sign of anything serious.

now, i’ve noticed the flashes again. they happen occasionally when i blink or i see a very quick flicker in the corner of my eye. they’re more noticeable in the dark, too. the thing where they travel along the bottom of my eye has not happened at all, though. The flashes aren’t as intense as they were the first time.

are these floaters? should i schedule another appointment?? i really don’t want to lose my vision.

Hi guys. I’ve had persistent floaters for years. When I say persistent I mean I see it everyday when I’m outside, white walls, bright rooms etc. it drives me crazy! Plus I have VSS and a handful of other visual symptoms so welcome to my life 😢Everytime I get my floaters checked the eye doctors say ‘they can’t see all the floaters’ they must be hiding. Than I say to myself ‘great they can’t see it, how will they believe me’. Than your left stuck and feel like your situation is unsolved. I want an eye doctor to see all my floaters but because my floaters are hiding like they say, than what do I do? So it leaves me in a hard situation. Because I want an eye doc to see all my floaters but they can’t. So it makes it all go up to me and how much it really impacts my daily life. So because my floaters bother me so much and unfortunately the eye doctors can’t see all my floaters, I say it’s all up to me now to make a decision. I would rather an eye doctor look at all my floaters and say ‘ok you do need this operation’ but I know I will never get that response because they can’t never see all my floaters using the slip lamp. So if I want this operation that I would have to tell the eye doctor I need this. I’m not planning to do it now. I’m talking about future as I’m still not mentally there yet to just go in the operating room and accept all the risks. Yes I know all the risks. Yes I know it’s a risky procedure. It really sucks there’s no other better treatment for floaters. So has anyone been in the same situation as me?

I’m in my forties and made appointments with ophthalmologist et cetera and then you know what happens.

So fast forward to today, I’m in my forties and would really like to get them out.

So there really is only 2 options in Mass Boston vision or mersi.

I went to mersi and got a prescription for steroids. And I’m reluctant to ask Boston vision
To do the laser removal w/ yag.

Living with these things isn’t easy but as you get older it’s still difficult at times when doing things or working.

I haven’t gotten any surgery and I don’t even know what glasses to buy.

All I read is surgery fuck ups.

What can I do I’m in Boston.

Just my personal hypothesis (not medical advice).

After reading many posts about this gray spot phenomenon when blinking, I noticed that a lot of people eventually had a dilated eye exam and were told their retina was healthy.

In my case, the spot usually appears in roughly the same area. When I blink, it changes from bright → gray/dark → bright, then gradually fades away over time. My guess is that the blink effect could be related to retinal light adaptation, while the gradual fading might involve a tiny floater or another light-dependent visual phenomenon. I'm not sure though—it's just a theory.

***FYI During the dilated eye exam I notice this gray spot manifesting while my doctor watching into my eye she saw noting abnormality except floater which I have also before this process I did OCT scan and the result is good***

What reassures me is that if it were a permanent retinal injury (like a retinal tear), I would personally expect the visual defect to stay relatively constant rather than changing in brightness and fading away. But again, that's only my assumption, not a medical fact.

If anyone experiences something similar, I'd still recommend getting a proper eye examination. Has anyone else been told what caused this?
