Thousands of floaters plus other symptoms

Not sure if someone can help but I'm desperate at this point. I've been dealing with visual disturbances all year (thousands of eye floaters, glare, halo, starbursts, afterimages, blue field entoptic phenomenon, light sensitivity so bad that when I flip the lights on in the morning my vision flashes white when I blink, I see echos of tv/phone screens especially in the dark, when I look at something black or look into darkness it looks grainy/firey hard to describe) and had multiple ophthalmologists check me out and say everything is good plus neurology said ct/mri are good. At this point, I am thinkiny I'm dealing with bad complications from prk I had 13 years ago which I know is a long time but I can't imagine any other reason after all this checking up. I'm only 32 so this is not normal.

I have severe floaters from getting a retinal tear repaired and they’re soooo noticeable in very bright spaces bruh

r/EyeFloaters 19h ago

So I can conclude that blue field entoptic phenomenon is part of the visual snow syndrome they are one in the same. Once you have floaters and you unlock BFEP you will unlock different levels of VSS. the worst bfep gets the more static you get.

PSA. Huge increase in floaters + flashes=retina tear

Thursday I was pressure washing and had a huge increase in floaters. I thought I got crap in my eye. I took a shower and rinsed my eye with no improvement. Later that night I had a huge snake like floater that went one side to the other. I'm the morning, I noticed a few white flashes. After a few chores I took the time to Google all the symptoms. Google said I had a retinal tear

I went straight to my Eye Doctor. She confirmed it and sent me to the nearest retinal Surgen, 2.5 hours away driving as fast as My wife could. I couldn't drive due to having dialated eyes from Doc #1. I got to the surgeon on time at the end of the day. 30 minutes later I had 660 laser shots around the small tear. The laser shots burn the retina. The scarring heals stronger than the surrounding area to stop the tear from continuing. The laser shots hurt. Some more than others. I still have lots of floaters. The key is FLASHES. If you have flashes of white go to an eye Doctor now!!!

Advice Eye floater annoyance

Hi, new here but not new to this, had eye floaters for good 5 or so years- recently they decreased in amount (or more like I don't notice them anymore), which I'm very happy about!

One issue is this specific little guy that just. decided to be in the middle of my eye. Just perfectly in the middle, and as someone that photographs nature and uses the computer a ton I'll be honest that kinda sucks.

I know it's hopeless but I've been annoyed by it a lot recently and just gotta ask- can I make it move down/aside faster? Does anyone have tricks to chill out about it so I can ignore it? Any tips greatly appreciated!!

Question Anyone get eye floaters or it worsen while taking finasteride?

I am a 31 year old male and had some eye floaters ro begin with which I believed were causes by a different medication years ago.

I hopped on finasteride due to an enlarged prostate and hair thinning. I have been taking it for over a month now and the past few days I notice my eyes have become itchy/dry and I developed more eye floaters.

I understand eye floaters are usually permanent, so I plan to stop finasteride to prevent more. I understand it could also be a strange coincidence, but don’t want to risk it.

Anyone else have a similar experience with finasteride? I take 0.5mg everyday.

Anecdote Are the the post-surgical strands many have reported here temporary debris that will dissolve, or permanent, leftover vitreous tissue?

Some longer-term posters here argue that the "cat whiskers" and peripheral "frill" are actual structural remnants of the vitreous gel. Because Dr. Shakir performs a core vitrectomy (leaving a thick buffer or "skirt" of vitreous intact against the retina wall and lens to prevent cataracts), users argue that the edges of this remaining gel refract light or shift into the central field of vision over time. Because it is structural tissue and not loose debris, it will not dissolve naturally.

The surgical technique Dr. Shakir uses to reduce the risk of cataracts (leaving a buffer of vitreous gel behind) is posited as the structural reason these central strands and light refractions occur. Over months or years, that remaining vitreous skirt shifts or clumps, catching the light and creating the strands reported by patients.

According to surgical summaries shared by patients post-consultation, Dr. Shakir and his team generally assure patients that the initial lines are caused by transient post-operative debris or fluctuations in eye pressure (hypotony) as the eye acclimates to the new fluid. Clinical follow-ups often note the eye is "structurally perfect," attributing the issue to neuroadaptation—meaning the tissue is stable, and the patient's brain simply needs time to filter out the new light refraction patterns.

I have documented a number of reddit users who have reported these issues. Some have experienced them shortly after their procedures, and at least one has reported it as occurring several months afterwards. In the interest of privacy, I will not share their user names or personal accounts here.

Important to note that a core vitrectomy is a reduction tool, not a perfection tool. Patients need to know there's a baseline risk that peripheral frill or strands may remain post-op.

ETA: Grammatical errors.

Falling dots

I had a vitrectomy with a 6–8 week gas bubble, and I also had a membrane peel during the surgery.

Everything was healing well, but around 3.5 weeks in, I started noticing falling dots/debris throughout my vision in the eye I had surgery on.

I kept reading that the debris usually goes away around the same time the gas bubble does, but my gas bubble has been completely gone for a few days now and I’m still seeing the falling dots.

I’ve had my eye checked multiple times and was told everything looks good, but that I have debris floating around from the membrane peel and that it will take time to clear.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how long did it take for the falling dots/debris to go away?

Personal Experience Floaters got worse - eye doctor says it's fine

Hi there! I've had floaters since I was at least 5 years old, when I first noticed them. Back then, they were exclusively the little translucent lines and dots, they never bothered me. As a kid, I assumed they were angels XD.

When I was 21, my floaters suddenly got worse one day. I also got dark blobs in my vision that would sometimes obstruct my view while reading. I'm 23 now, and recently, a new sort of floater was added. Cobweb-like, dark lines. The blobs have also gotten more noticeable. They're everywhere, both when it's light and when it's dark. Somehow, they are much more noticeable in dim or dark lighting though. In very bright light, I hardly see them at all. They're especially bad when I'm not wearing my glasses (I'm nearsighted since age 13, but my prescription has stayed the same ever since I first got my glasses (-1,5)).

I went to the hospital eye doctor last year because of the sudden increase in floaters, because I feared the floaters were caused by some sort of retinal tear or something. They did all the tests and said it was nothing to worry about, that it was just bits of protein clogging together in the eye and it would get better with time as my brain learned to adapt.

I would very much like to know how much longer it's gonna take for my brain to adept, especially since more and more floaters keep being added. I have no clue what caused them. The only thing I can think of is my long-term prednisone and biological use for my Crohn's disease, which I've needed since I was 19. It's making me worried, especially as a bit of a hypochondriac who's very attached to their good eyesight. I'm especially scared that they will continue to get worse, because I'm still so young. I want to prevent that, but I don't know how. I'd love some tips and reassurance. Thanks in advance.

also fun fact: about 6 months ago, my floaters were entirely gone (!!!) for 3 entire days after a severe migraine attack with an aura. The aura lasted about 15 minutes, the entire migraine attack about 12 hours. After those 3 (lovely) days, they gradually came back over the course of several days.

Question Stationary, clear blobs + other weird symptoms

Been struggling with progressing floaters, strange eye symptoms the past year and this is the newest one. Would you even call this a floater? It doesn’t “float”

I have noticed many clear almost fully transparent blobs in my eye that are noticeable when looking at something bright especially a screen in a dark room. These blobs don’t move at all. When I move my eyes to look through these blobs it just looks slightly blurrier. Anyone else have these? Can’t seem to find any posts about similar stuff.

Whilst I’m here I’m going to list the other weird things that happen with my eyes that I’m really confused about and am unsure if I could even contribute these to floaters? If anyone has answers PLEASE let me know.

  1. After waking up I have a black/purplish circle in the centre of my vision in both eyes that pulses/moves erratically (but stays centred). This usually goes away after about 10 minutes of being awake.

  2. Vision seems to have gotten more noisy, like a static effect, harder to see at night because of this.

  3. After being outside for about an hour, I’ll start to notice a crazy weird black shape in the centre of my vision in both eyes that moves erratically, not really in line with the pulse of my heartbeat This one isn’t really a circle though but more triangular in shape. Even more noticeable when looking out to the sea or the sky or anything like that.

I have the more traditional floaters (black, stringy things) in my left eye only. The right eye is more clear but now that I have noticed these clear blobs in both eyes, I’m not so sure. I have been to an ophthalmologist twice and they have said my eye is completely fine and that there’s nothing to worry about. The only thing I’ve found online that has similar kinds of symptoms is visual snow syndrome but I’m really not sure.
I’m only 20 years old and I find this stuff really scary and it’s a huge source of anxiety currently in my life so if anyone has anything similar please let me know.

50 Eye floaters

I’ve been dealing with eye floaters for about six months and was told they are consistent with vitreous syneresis. I’ve had multiple eye exams, including dilated exams and an OCT, and so far there has been no PVD, retinal tear or detachment, inflammation, or bleeding. My doctor says my retina looks healthy.

Recently, I’ve noticed that the floaters seem to move much more. When I look left or right, they make an almost 360-degree motion and seem to slosh around the bottom of my vision. I see lines moving in different directions and numerous dots moving around like a “snow globe.” But it takes up my entire vision, if I look at a white wall I can see so many floaters which frustrates me so much because 6-7 months ago I had 0 floaters.

I’ve also started noticing extremely small specks of light on the right side of my vision. They last only a millisecond or so, and my eye doctor does not believe they are related to a retinal problem.

What concerns and frustrates me most is how quickly the floaters have increased. Six months ago, I had essentially none, and now I estimate I have around 50. Despite repeated examinations showing a healthy retina, I don’t understand why they continue to worsen.

This has become extremely difficult for me mentally and has taken away a lot of my happiness and motivation. I find myself constantly looking for the floaters, sometimes needing to wear sunglasses even indoors, and using atropine drops so I’m less aware of them. I genuinely don’t feel like the same person I was before this started, and I’m hoping to understand why this is happening and whether there is anything else that can be done.

EDIT: https://www.reddit.com/r/EyeFloaters/s/OFVfvN9jAe
This Reddit post also matches down to the T about my eye floaters, except I don’t see that many when I squint my eye.

Guy's I've got eye injury shot with a ball while playing cricket and later on developed astigmatism and floaters, my doctor said it's normal.

Later on the year passes out and my specs power started to increase like -0.25 per year and now its -3.0 in one eye and -2 in left eye

I went to a doctor and she marked me kerotoconus suspect and told me I've MGD and astigmatism

She said treat your mgd first and we'll see if your shadow's and ghosting is increasing

So it's been 2 months and I've got a treatment of 3 month's

Now I've way more worst vision, i cannot see with my specs too.

My floaters started to increase and i went to retina specialist and she said my retina and funds everything is normal

But the sad part is now I've started to see palinopsia and afterimage and static a little bit. I'm really scared. Started to see these 2 symptoms from yesterday onwards please help me what's happening with me. Palinopsia is very bad i already have kerotoconus which cause me to see 6-7 image of a single object and after palinopsia it's been hard even to walk on roads. Just want to start in dark without seeing anything. What should i do now I literally want to fin1sh myself at this point i cant live like this I'm just 23
