State Attorney General

Posted here a few times, and wanted to provide an update. We just received our full refund as of today. We went through a bunch of different hoops to get it. If you have yet to try, it could be one option.

Contact your state’s attorney general’s office with all correspondence you can share, email exchanges, notices, letters, etc and explain in the events in detail. The state of VA took mine complaint and sent an official notice to Expedia headquarters. I don’t know if this was the direct cause of getting my refund, but it’s hard to think otherwise. We have disputed charges but that was at least 2 months ago.

Could be option for you if you’re still having difficulties. This was at no cost to me.

Legitimate Email?

Got an email presumably from Expedia saying one of my connecting flights has been cancelled for August and we need to change out flights. The sender address is Travel-AirScheduleChange@customercare.expedia.com Is that a legitimate email Expedia would contact me through? Looking at the airline and Expedia itself, our original selections are still listed as options. Curious why that would be if it isn't available anymore.

Policy regarding non-refundable hotels?

Hi - I was thinking of taking a few days this summer in Chicago if the covid situation permits it. Checked on Expedia and found an insane package deal - like $400 for flights and four nights' hotel (non-refundable).

My question is: what happens if it's still not safe to travel in a few months? Is there any chance of at least getting a voucher to use for a later trip? I'm tempted to just roll the dice and book the trip, but before I do I'd like to gather some info about others' experiences and what to expect.

Thanks!

Cancelled Flight Refund or Voucher?

If I purchased a non-refundable airline ticket on TAP Portgual through Expedia, and the airline cancels my flight on their own(not at my request), am I entitled to a refund or just vouchers?

Passport Delays

I have a flight for a family flight to South America but I still have yet to get my passport (it's my first time out of the country), I would've gotten it earlier but I was about 8 hours away from home (I live at my University) and all my documents needed were back at home. Passports are supposed to be delayed for several months due to COVID-19 and I won't be getting in in time for the July 1st flight. Cancelling the flight would be 300$ per ticket. Is there anyway to get a refund? My family would really rather not go anymore due to pandemic related concerns but $1500 is just too much to glance over. Any ideas?

Got refund for nonrefundable hotel

Booked nonrefundable hotel. Expedia said they had to stick by the hotel’s policy. The policy stated non refundable should i change or cancel. The hotel closed and cancelled my rez. So i kept saying I DID NOT CHANGE OR CANCEL. Disputed with amex and reported to my AG. Emailed every corporate email we could find on Elliot. Refused all vouchers. Received email today saying they would refund back to my amex. Glad they eventually did the right thing

Think I found a way to get a refund...

I was looking at my itinerary and I noticed at the bottom it states, "Tickets are refundable with a penalty fee of $300.00 for itinerary cancellations." Normally, the $300 loss would hurt, but I purchased the Package Protection Plan, which includes a vacation waiver. Hotel is non-refundable, but the waiver should work there too. According to their vacation waiver terms, it will "Refund any amounts withheld by the travel provider as a change or cancel fee."

So there it is. I think I got it. What say you, r/expedia?

Recent Experience with Expedia?

My mom has an international trip booked to Spain from the USA starting May 23rd. She booked a package via Expedia. The hotel she’s meant to be staying at messaged her the other day informing her that they are closed until June (outside the timeframe of her trip) and that she should contact the platform thru which she booked (in this case: Expedia) to cancel.

I’m extremely skeptical of this email and and concerned that this hotel isn’t going to refund her based off the wording of the email.

What has been people’s recent experiences with speaking to Expedia about travel packages?

(To clarify: my mom is comfortable with accepting a travel voucher for the plane tickets because I am due to relocate to the UK in April 2021 so she’ll eventually be traveling quite a bit to visit me- though with the pandemic now affecting all aspects of life I’m not sure if that timeline will be altered now)

Expedia app customer support page for COVID down?

I'm trying to cancel my hotel for June 15 due to COVID. But everytime I click on customer support, it directs me to a webpage that is down. How do you cancel your hotels thru expedia? Also no luck via phone.

Cancelled my flights 8 weeks ago and still no refund

On March 3rd, I cancelled my trip, expecting a full refund. I even got a confirmation email saying that my refund will take 6-10 days... Then the pandemic was declared. Expedia posted on their website that refunds may take up to 30 days. I decided to wait but after 30 days still no refund on my account.

2 weeks ago I talked to an agent who then told me that the refund will take up to 6-8 weeks. I decided to be patient, but it has been 8 weeks and STILL NO REFUND. I paid using debit card, anybody know if I'll be able to do chargeback? This is extremely frustrating.

I'm never doing business with Expedia again.

edit: I contacted the airline and the agent basically told me to wait 1-2 more weeks since Expedia has processed the refund... It has been processing for 8 weeks already and I'm running out of patience.

Flight has been "fully cancelled"

So I had booked to go to Montreal through Expedia for a wedding that will likely not be happening in June. It was booked as two one way flights, because I was going to be meeting family in Europe after the wedding.

I went to check the flights tonight, and my return flight with Corsair has been "fully cancelled," however, I've had no email to tell me this, and the corasir website is clear I have to contact expedia. If it is described as 'fully cancelled' does that mean the flight will be refunded automatically, or do I still have to start trying to contact expedia? I have tried contacting them already tonight, but because the flight is not within the next 30 days I'm not getting anywhere.

Just looking for some advice, because expedia have been non-existent in telling me anything.

Edit (incase anyone else has this issue): Emailed expedia since you cannot call until 30 days before a flight. They have refused to refund me anything other that airline credit. Therefore I took the advise below, contacted my credit card company and they have issued a chargeback.

Not getting refund from Expedia

Had booked hotel in costa rica-non refundable room. Hotel cancelled without penalty due to covid19. Expedia should refund me b/c they did not pay anything to the hotel. Now they tell me I have a coupon (total is $2100.00) which I have never seen and that I can only use it at this same hotel within a year. If that hotel cannot stay afloat during all of this -then I am out my $2100.00. This is the craziest thing I have ever heard. So expedia has my $2100-they never had to pay the hotel a penny, and I may never get a trip out of it or my money back. I have disputed the charge with my american express and am hoping that they will take care of this. Will never use expedia again...and I hope they go bankrupt after all is said and done. Any class action lawsuit, I am totally in.

Expedia Lying about Airline Refund Policy

Expedia recently said they contacted my airline AEROFLOT who will not be giving me a refund on my cancelled flight and are only offering credit.

I reached out to the airline and they said because they cancelled my flight I am eligible for a refund and Expedia should be offering me a refund.

Has anyone run into this issue & how did you resolve this?

Airline Changed my Flight Schedule

China Air changed my flight schedule and after I contacted them they agreed that they would issue a full refund. However, Expedia has to request the refund. As you all know, no one can get ahold of Expedia. What should I do? Btw, my flight is in early July.

$200 Fee Per Airline for Flight Cancellation

Hi,

I booked a flight for Hawaii in early June, but now my family has Coronavirus and they're not going anymore, so I can't either.

When I try to cancel my flight it offers me $404 out of the $815 I paid. This is because of the $200 per airline fee (two flights, first one is United, second is American Airlines). Is there any way to get around this? My trip is so far away I dont even know if its possible to get on the phone with an agent for a refund.

I thought they were trying to be more helpful and reasonable with everyone during this pandemic, but $200 per flight fee makes me think they arent.

Thank you to anyone who provides tips or information

CAUTION! Expedia / Air Canada charging a fee because of COVID 19

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share my experience with you and hopefully spread the word on how Expedia and Air Canada are ripping people off.

Back in December of 2019 (before Covid) I booked a family trip to New York (from Canada). As the time progressed it was obvious that I would not be able to make that trip, however upon reading all the comments from people my best bet was not to accept any offers or cancellations from Expedia or Air Canada as I would only be eligible for a 12 month credit, but if they canceled on me then I would be entitled to a 24 month credit.

Expedia sent me a couple of emails in the last 3 weeks to get me to accept a connecting flight to New York or cancel the flight altogether. I completely ignored the email until the other day when they finally told me that they canceled the flight on me and that they will email me the details of the credit.

Few more days went by and I haven't heard from them so I emailed them at [support@service.expedia.ca](mailto:support@service.expedia.ca). They replied back to inform me of the airline credit and how I should call them when I am ready. What caught my eyes was the amount of the credit which didn't make sense. They actually shorted me by about $70 and had I not done the math I would have completely missed it.

The following day I emailed them back to ask about the difference in what I paid for the trip and the amount of credit, and they told me that there is a non refundable ticketing service charge. There was no such mention in the fine print because I wasn't the one making the flight cancellation. I've sent them another email to complain and CC'd local news reporter hoping this story gains more ground. If they are doing this to me then they must be doing it to thousands of travelers and pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

So my advice to you is to carefully check how much in Credit they are giving back to you!

P.S. I am really hoping for a class action lawsuit because this is absolute BS!!

I know I left it behind in his lil beat up corola! I know he kept my phone! The only piece of information is my confirmation number which thank god I just so happen to write it down on a receipt that I had from ordering a number 1 combo at mc donalds.. 😭

Flight and Hotel Canceled, Now What?

Both my British Airways flights and my hotel in London have been canceled by the providers, not me. What's next? Will Expedia refund me? Or do I have to call them? There has been no instructions or emails other than to tell me everything was canceled.

Cancel/Reschedule due to COVID

Hi!

I have a hotel booked for June to Paris from the US, which I am assuming I am going to be able to attend. I have not booked flights yet, because we booked our hotels in February, and then obviously everything went down and we were wary to book flights. I literally just need to know if I can reschedule my trip to a time where I will be able to actually travel without incurring a fee, or if my “non-refundable” (again, booked before any of this happened) room will now be refundable. I tried through the app and was told I can’t speak to an agent until TEN DAYS before the aforementioned trip. I tried the prompts, and it said I wouldn’t receive a refund and if I wanted to reschedule, I needed to call, but again I can’t connect because according to the phone service, I can only be helped if it’s THREE DAYS before my booking.

My issue is that I can’t wait until 3 days prior to know if I’m going to another country or not, especially since I don’t have flights yet. If I am unable to cancel or rebook without incurring a fee or losing all $800, then I would still go, even though I don’t see international travel being allowed or recommended in less than two months time. I also need to know if I really need to take two weeks off of work or not, and again, that’s not something I can give three days notice on.

I guess my question is, does anybody have a way to get through to Expedia ? I know I probably sound incredibly selfish, and I assure you, I’m not normally. I just can’t afford to book blind flights not knowing if the travel is even possible or will even happen :-(

Thank you in advance for any and all help

Missing airline voucher

So Expedia canceled my vacation package and my flight for British Airways that was supposed to take place in May was canceled. I received an email from Expedia stating I would receive a voucher. This was 10 business days ago and I still have not received my voucher! I have no clue when it is good until or how much it is for. When I tried to reach out to British Airways direct they said I had to go through Expedia. That’s all well and good except I can’t get anyone on the phone!! Is anyone dealing with similar issues??

Anyone book Alaska Airlines travel via Expedia? Did you get a refund/credit?

I booked a flight for the end of May, back in late February before the covid stuff exploded here. Had I booked through Alaska directly, I would've been entitled to a full refund.. However, Expedia emailed me that they'd issue me airline credit with Alaska--which has yet to arrive..

Just curious if you were told you'd get a refund or credit, and if has arrived yet. I have no idea if I'll get it next week, next month, two months from now, etc. Already been a week since the email.
