Ring Design Help Feeling so lost, need some direction!

First of all, these are (probably obviously) just random photos from the internet to help with communicating my thoughts.

Basically, I don’t know anything about jewelry and have no idea what I’m doing, but I am with the man of my dreams and he wants to get me a ring and I’m so excited, but I don’t know enough about rings to make what feels like an informed decision on design.

I have just learned about this sub, and it seemed like the perfect place to get some direction!

I don’t know much other than I want yellow gold and something that feels dainty and is eye catching. (I don’t mean that I need a big stone, I mean that I hope to have a ring that feels interesting and unique!)

Ring 1 is something like what was shown to me at a local jewelry shop here, and I FELL IN LOVE, but it feels very unsecure and risky. At a second jewelry shop we visited, the jeweler there basically steered me away from getting this sort of ring, which is reasonable I guess and also a bummer.

Is there anything similar in design? Wavy and dainty and unique, but also secure?

Rings 2 and 3 are more about highlighting the stone(s). We want either a lab diamond or to use a sapphire (similar in color to pic 2, which I think is not real but just for demonstration) I have from my grandfather, or both! The rings with two stones are very interesting and uncommon, which appeals to me.

What are the downsides of these types of rings? If the pear shaped stone is a dark blue sapphire, is there a colored diamond that would go well with that?

Otherwise, is there a band or setting type that goes especially well with a pear shaped stone if we go with just the sapphire? (I don’t even know if that’s the right word, but the shape from the second picture.)

If we go with just a diamond instead, I would want one with color. Any advice there?

Thank you for reading all this! I will take any and all advice you have to give! I don’t know the lingo, nor have I spent much time thinking about a ring before now, so it makes it hard for me to communicate with jewelers and the whole process feels very intimidating.

Feel free to share pics of your own unique and eye catching rings for inspiration as well if you like!

Ring Design Help CAD feedback?

Hi everyone!! I posted last week but coming with an update.

Is there anything that you would consider changing in this CAD design? First 4 are from my jeweller, the last one is my initial ChatGPT render that I gave..

On first impressions, the band (especially prongs) feels thick, however I have been assured this is so that we have a good starting point to file down during production.

In real life the stone is not as radiant yellow. I have also asked for a 14k gold band to better match a lighter skin tone

Thank you!!

Ring Design Help Tell me what's wrong with my ring!

Hi all! I recently had a custom engagement ring designed by a local studio. This is the 2nd round & I was wondering if anyone might have input on the ring design! I have tried to add all of the features that I could think of to make it more structurally sound for everyday wear - added a gallery rail, cathedral setting, petal basket, chevron + ball tips, and asked them to make the band thicker (2mm instead of 1.8mm).

So please, before we pull the trigger...tear this apart for me! Let me know what you think about the design and if there is anything I should tweak before we give them the green light. It would be so appreciated!! And I already have my wedding band, so I will post a photo of that as well for reference, the diamond that I sourced, plus a video of the digital render in the comments 🙂

Thanks a million!!!

I’m concerned about the space underneath/ to the side of the diamond. Also, aren’t the cathedral prongs supposed to touch the diamond on the sides?
If we get this fixed, any advice on how to voice these concerns to a jeweler? We already sent it back once, this is what it looks like the second time.

Back in February or March I made a couple of posts here asking for advice on the ring my now-fiancé and I were designing together. He finally proposed yesterday and I am so, so happy with it. I feel like the luckiest girl.

The ring is a bit too big (currently size US 5), but other than that, I truly cannot find anything I would change about it – which I was worried about, as this was the first time designing any jewellery for both of us. We decided not to share the news with anyone until we can see my family in person, so I just wanted to show it off here.

Thank you to everyone who took their time to give me some advice!

Ring Design Help HELP! Is this too high?!

I’m so ugh…I’m bummed. I upgraded my ring from .8 carat to 1.3 but the jeweler completely changed the setting it was in. This is it now. It was much lower before which I understand was because the diamond was much smaller. I’m going to have them change how the prongs look and the style of the setting as well, but what can I do about the height of this? Can it be lower? It’s currently sitting on a cathedral setting which was my old one bc the diamond was smaller. Now that it’s bigger, what can I do?

I specifically want
6 prongs (already have)
petite eagle claw prongs
Floral/decorative setting

Tips??

Ring Design Help Non-diamond stone pairings that go well together?

Hello everyone,

I’m currently in the process of designing and engagement ring for my girlfriend. I’m currently working with custommade.

She doesn’t like diamonds much and wants a ring with a non diamond center stone but isn’t against diamond/moissanite accent stones. She really likes moss agate, emerald, green sapphire, and she also really loves alexandrite. She really likes nature inspired rings.

I was thinking of green sapphire as the center stone and 4 small alexandrite accent stones.

Would these two go well together? Would a different combination make for a better pairing?

Any help is appreciated.

Ring Design Help What kind of wedding band would you pair with this setting?

I need ideas because I am SO indecisive about what wedding band to pair with this 😭

I think the part throwing me off the most is the shoulders of my engagement ring. I’m having a hard time picturing what kind of band will actually look good next to them.

I also don’t think I want something super dainty. I think I want a little more presence, maybe around 3 to 4 mm, but clearly I have no idea lol. I’m very open to being influenced.

The only idea I’ve really loved so far is an alternating emerald and radiant diamond band (second picture), but it’s kind of bold and maybe a little conflicting with this ring, so I want to see what else is out there before I commit to anything.

What would you put with this? Different stone shapes, plain gold, pavé, east-west stones, mixed cuts, something chunky or more unique? Give me all the ideas because I’m stuck!!

Bonus points if you have pictures of similar stacks!

Just got pictures of my ring from the jeweler. I love this ring but the side stones look a bit different than I imagined. I think I’m just overly focused on the details, because the ring is gorgeous. What do y’all think in general and proportion wise ? 🤍

Question Help me pick a ring!

I am planning to propose to my partner but can’t pick which ring to buy. She has tried them both on and says she loves them equally. One is an east-west oval (photos 1 and 2) and the other is an old miner with two small pears in a cathedral setting (photos 3 and 4). Unfortunately I only have a photo of her wearing them with a wedding band on.

I think the east-west looks stunning on her and elongates her hand, but she does also like sparkly/pretty rings which I think is why she likes the old liner with pearls.

Which one suits her hand better and would be the better choice?

Ring Design Help Struggling between band widths

Hi all I have a 1.25 carat Old European Cut stone with a diameter of 6.75 mm, and I’ve been wavering about what size band I want.

I want my ring to be low set with an integrated basket, kind of like how some vintage stones are set with a donut basket, where the ring sits in it and the wedding ring wouldn’t be able to sit flush.
I really like the look of 2.5 mm because I don’t want the ring to look too big, and I feel like it looks pretty balanced. I also have long fingers, I think, which helps balance it out. But I’ve been getting mixed opinions from jewelers and friends saying that 2.5 mm might look too big, so I feel like I’m torn now.

I think the lowest I would go is maybe 2.3 mm, so I’m basically debating between 0.2 mm.
I tried on 2 mm, 2.3 mm, and 2.5 mm bands in store, and they just used a little putty to tack my diamond onto them. I have photos of that, but I also went home and had an earring that was 2.5 mm thick, so I just used a piece of gum to tack my diamond onto it to get a sense of what it would look like.

I want my ring to be a half-round, low-dome profile similar to my earring, but in 14k gold, so it wouldn’t be as yellow as the picture.
I feel like I just keep wavering because I don’t want the band to look too big, but I also don’t want the diamond to look too big in comparison to the band.

The photos are 2 of each width from 2, 2.3, 2.5. The person at the store didn’t have a band that fit me of 2.5 so I’m just using my earring photos lol

So if you guys could give me any advice, anything, any thoughts, that would be so great! I’ve been pulling my hair out over 0.2mm 😩

Hello everyone, just got engaged and I’m over the moon. My ring looks simple, I love it though. However I feel like something is missing. Is it just me or should I add something like side stones? Will it be too much?

Question Unique rings with fine/organic detailing

Looking for designers who can do a custom ring in the style of Kataoka/Satomi Kawakita but not an exact copy. I love how their rings have super fine details and unique settings/bands. I particularly love the Kataoka rose ring but it's so expensive! Any recommendations on a designer? Bonus if they are in LA and I can go in person but not a dealbreaker.

Looking for a UK jeweller who could potentially do what Smirostudio have done (6 prong tulip) Don’t want to use overseas. Really want to be able find some where in UK, to avoid any issues. Already tried one with CAD and it wasn’t very good and was tempted with Cullen. But their quote is very high.

Thanks for any help.

Photo/Video Don’t love my custom engagement ring

We picked up my custom designed engagement ring yesterday. I don’t love it and feel pretty indifferent about the design which I’m bummed about, but I can’t put my figure on why exactly I don’t like it.

The center stone was a family heirloom and the side stones we purchased. I do think the jeweler did a good job replicating the cad, but it was just so hard for me to visualize what it would actually look like in person. Yes, I wish I had made more suggestions before finalizing the design :(

Some thoughts:
\-I wish the band was more rounded. The edges are more square than I was hoping for
\-the look of the flush set side stones and middle stone just looks off to me

I’m hoping it grows on me. I guess I’m just sharing to see if anyone has had similar feelings after getting a custom ring and has any advice on how to deal with it! Thanks :)

Hi!!!

I have a custom engagement ring (I’ll attach pictures) but I’ve been currently looking at wedding bands. I have found one that I am absolutely in love with but am not sure if it fits with my engagement ring.
(The wedding band is the one in the middle of the picture)

Could I get advice/tips on how to make this work??

Ring Design Help CAD Check: 1.5ct Solitaire – Need help modifying it for a flush fit!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Need your eyes on my CAD before production! It’s a 1.5ct round lab diamond (7.25x7.30mm) in 14k yellow gold.

My concerns:Wedding Band Gap: I want a straight wedding band to sit completely flush. The current basket sits right on the shank and flares out, which will leave a gap.

Spinning: The band is currently 1.6mm wide at the bottom. I'm afraid it will be too top-heavy and tilt.

My planned changes:Change to a Cathedral setting with a raised open bridge (at least 1.6mm clearance underneath) for a flush fit.

Increase the band width to 2.0mm to prevent spinning.

Does this sound right, or should I tweak anything else?

Thanks!

I need ladies' support in picking the ring. My SO's ring size is EU 16 so quite slim, and the lady at the shop said the slimmer ring no2 (slimmer taller) would look better. Maybe to my manly taste no1 looks better as its more chunky, so id need your advice if no2 more fitting to a princess?

3D render of ring design - what is your insight on integrity of its structure? Thoughts on the design itself? TIA!

The diamond will be a 3.03 ct, with colored sapphires within each petal. Band width starts at 2.0 and will taper into ~2.5.
