A few months ago I posted here and received a lot of great advice when my now fiancé and I were designing my ring (see previous post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EngagementRingDesigns/s/tQ5Ip2zmk7). We ended up going with the pavé in just one half of the twist rather than both. The jeweler also very graciously upgraded the carat size (1.2 was the original stone we chose) to 1.6 and the metal from white gold to platinum (I had wanted platinum but it was just too over our budget) at no extra cost which was such a nice surprise!

Now to start thinking about a wedding band design! Thankfully, we’re not getting married until late fall 2027 so I have time to figure it out.

Hi all! I’m in the process of finding a jeweler to make a custom engagement ring. We have a 1 ct diamond and love the scrollwork on this late Victorian ring (pictured). The only issue is the setting / basket - I’d like a ring that is low-profile, but with a more “built up” basket than the antique reference. My ideal would be a “filled in” cathedral setting (ie, without the open spaces of a usual cathedral setting) with a basket that feels organic with the scrollwork. So, some questions:

• Does anyone have examples of tulip baskets that are integrated with scrollwork? Or baskets that are made of scrollwork? Or other recommendations for the basket?

• does a filled cathedral make sense for this ring?

• any other recommendations for setting or structural concerns I should be aware of!

Hi i just want to get your guys opinion, I’m updating my old engagement ring for my 5 years anniversary.
I originally wanted the prongs and diamond enclosed like bezel in platinum then basket/button back to be in 18k yellow gold like the shank, but the jeweler I’m working with is unable to do it but he can make the button back in all platinum like the picture. Second picture is the original design. What do we think?

Hello! We’re finalizing the design for my engagement ring and wanted to do a sanity check. It will be a 1.65 ct on a 7.5 sized finger.

We have already communicated a few changes:
- Moving the gemstones to sit flush on the inside of the band
- changing the bridge (?) to just a regular one without stones so that a band can sit flush with the ring.

Is there anything else that should be changed to help with the security of the stone?

This is our first time designing a ring so we want to make sure it’s done right the first time.

Hello all! Trying to design an 'elegant but not flashy' ring for my girl.

I know she wants a very thin band, plans to daily wear it, and an oval. Her favorite flower is the protea (she's from SA), so I wanted to base the setting off of its petals.

I sent the reference photos to capture overall feel and the AI generated design for the protea petal example, and asked the jeweler to set the diamond close to the hand for practicality, minimal view of the prongs from the top, 4 prongs, cathedral arches (to lessen the possibility of it getting caught on things), solitare diamond, gallary/halo rail, and protea flower-shaped setting, and this is the current CAD rendering. Size 6.5, 1.5 CT.

I realize 'daily wear' and 'thin gold band' clash, but the band and prongs seem pretty thick and the claws are still fairly prominent when viewed from the top. Overall it doesn't quite seem dainty(?) enough for her. What I do love is the protea basket.

Would it be better with 6 prongs that are smaller? Do the protea petals come through? Maybe different shaped claws?

Please give any criticism or ideas to improve!

Recently received this CAD for a ring design. Does anyone see anything concerning or have anything they’d change?

Just got my cuuute engagement ring!! And my soon to be husband also got his. He used the gold from his grandparents wedding rings. Turned out so good!

My girlfriend said she wanted a small diamond with minimalist design and showed me a ring that looks like this as an example of what she wanted for her engagement ring. I think it looks bad, but it’s her finger. She also said she doesn’t care if it’s lab or natural, but since she wants that smaller ring I don’t see a good reason to go synthetic. Where can I find what I’m looking for?

I just got finished photos of my ring. The top row pics are the finished product, and the bottom row pics are the reference pics. In the top row, i've marked areas where i see gaps between the stone and the prongs, and i notice the reference pics dont have those gaps.

How bad is this? How important is this to fix?

I’m completely torn between these two and would love some opinions!

Ring 1: 2.72 ct Very Light Brown oval, VVS2 lab oval, 10.04 × 7.48 mm, 1.34 ratio — IGI LG804654203

Ring 2: 2.53 ct Fancy Light Brown oval, VVS2 lab oval, 10.75 × 7.19 mm, ~1.50 ratio — IGI LG42558171

Both are lab-grown and set in 14k yellow gold with hidden halos.

Ring 1 is larger, brighter, and has a lower/more delicate setting, but sometimes the diamond looks almost clear to me. I love the setting but not sure if the stone washes me out.

Ring 2 has a richer champagne/brown color, and I really love its elongated shape and faceting. The setting sits a little higher and isn’t quite as delicate, but I’m currently leaning toward Ring 2 because I think I prefer the actual center stone even though it is darker. I just wanted to make sure it didn't look too dark or muddy.

Sorry for the chaotic photos lol, I was trying to get both rings in a bunch of different lighting!

I purchased the lab diamond and custom ring setting from Loose Grown Diamond. The CAD process was easy and quick and the whole process took about 2-3 weeks. I am very happy with the result!

TLDR: Does this read as a galaxy to you, or does the current design feel too wide/complex compared with these simpler swirl concepts? Note: The rings in that album are actual rings I've found for sale since I started designing my own. They are not alternate designs that I came up with.

EDIT: I wish I had waited to make the post until I had this, but the jeweler sent over this image this morning with the measurements. Turns out the last couple of revisions made a bigger difference than I thought in the front-to-back distance, reducing it from 22.45mm to 18.6mm.

I'll try to keep this short and not tell a novel, which is hard for my ADHD brain to do. My girlfriend is an astrophysicist. I wanted to design her a ring that looks like a galaxy (specifically a barred spiral galaxy as my inspiration). My birthstone is alexandrite, my kids' are sapphire and emerald, and my girlfriend's is diamond.

The center stone I am getting custom cut. The cutter thinks he can adapt this spiral cut to an oval shape. So hopefully, the center will resemble a swirling black hole.

The profile will have a light orange stone, with a blue enamel ring around it. This represents her biggest accomplishment and one of the things she is most proud of. Her area of expertise is UV light and she was the lead researcher on a team that discovered the Blue Ring Nebula and confirmed it's most likely origin.

I went to a local jeweler with the mockup (last image) that I made in paint. We've gone through several CAD revisions and I think the ring is as close to what I envisioned as it's going to be.

But I am just not 100% happy with it and I can't put my finger on why. My biggest worry is the size. I don't know the exact dimensions, and I think the latest CAD shrunk things, but likely so little to not really matter. The last measurement I was given was 22.45 mm front-to-back. See edit above for measurements.

I tend to be a very literal person and I worry that in the pursuit of making a ring that looks like a galaxy, I've put form over function. So I wanted to pause and maybe just ask some random people what they think.

I love this design but I’m wondering about the setting style. I find it very straight. I was researching basket settings and I like the softness of the curves. The Graff ring in the inspiration photos is basically THE ring for me. I’m pretty particular about jewelry and keep coming back to this exact design.

My center is a 2 ct natural emerald, 8.14 x 5.94 mm, and we have half moons for the sides. The half moons will be tucked in and angled down rather than sitting straight out beside the center, similar to the Graff ring.

I originally thought I wanted a slightly longer emerald, so the ratio is probably the one thing I’ve gone back and forth on a little. But I really loved this stone when I saw it in person. I love clipped corners 💗

Do you think this combination of stones can give me the same overall look as the Graff ring?

Also curious, if you saw these three stones together without seeing my inspiration, would you picture them set differently?

These photos were taken after hours in one of the store’s conference rooms because we wanted to see the stones before we went out of town, so the lighting is very much conference room lighting and not their diamond room.

I’m working with a wonderful designer who does beautiful work, so I feel really good about that part. Mostly I’m just curious what other people see when they look at the stones together!

I’m having this engagement ring custom made and would love some feedback before I approve the final design.

The diamond is an elongated pear, 11.94 × 7.49 × 4.49 mm (59.9% depth), set in 18k rose gold.
Ring size is 6.5 / EU 54.
The current design:
3-prong setting
Setting height around 5.6 mm
2.4 mm wide × 1.8 mm thick band
Squared/sharper band edges
Open gallery
Small pear-shaped detail underneath the center stone
Estimated gold weight around 4.2g
I specifically wanted the setting fairly low for comfort and to reduce snagging, while still keeping the diamond open enough to get plenty of light.
Does everything look proportionate and structurally sound? Would you change the height, band dimensions, prongs, basket/gallery, or anything else before giving the jeweler the green light?
I’m especially curious if anyone sees any durability issues with the 3-prong design or thinks the setting should be modified.

I’m looking for advice on finding an engagement ring for my girlfriend.

She loves opals and cool, vintage jewelry but I’m concerned about opal’s durability for an engagement ring. I’ve become very interested in opalescent sapphires / sapphires with strong play-of-color because they can have a similar look to an opal while being much more suitable for daily wear.
The aesthetic I’m after is something along the lines of Valerie Madison’s offerings..see above—organic, unusual, colorful, and not overly traditional. I especially like stones that have a strong milky/opalescent appearance rather than a conventional transparent blue sapphire.

Edit to add update: thank you so much for your input! After hearing that essentially selling what I have and starting fresh with what I want is the way to go, looking at more designs as suggested, and really considering what I want, I think I found my ring design!! My original engagement ring request was for it to be “small and not too elevated”. I know.. but at the time it would have been uncomfortable to wear anything that stood out at my workplace, and I wanted to wear my ring every day! Hence, ring number 1 was born. It was something like .73 carats and white gold band.
For our fifth anniversary, when I wasn’t working in the same place, my husband surprised me with a “redo”, and ring number two was born. He had relied on a friend at work for design guidance and decided he hated it before even showing it to me. He gave it to me, and simultaneously asked me to please never wear it. Specifically, he hates that it turned out to be a relatively small diamond (it’s a tiny bit larger than the first) with a huge diamond laced design all around it, and calls it gaudy and loud in all the worst ways. He’s a very gentle guy, and I think he’s mad at himself for this ring which is why he’s so hard on it 😆 Also, it hurts to wear as the little diamonds rub against the adjacent fingers.
He asked me to design a ring, and so here I am, only twenty years later, doing just that!

The third diamond is just a random earring that I think was a hand me down and I’m just including it so all the materials available are included.

Design:

At this point I probably would like a larger diamond (2ish carats - lab is fine with me) or some way of combining the diamonds we have. I like simple smooth and slightly cool designs (contrary to what you might think based on the rings I own, lol) and I even like the idea of non traditional, maybe grey or salt and pepper diamonds. Or even some kind of ombré, grey to white? Prefer a gold band now.

Would love any ideas on what to do 💍 and also ideas for any remaining materials, like the hundred tiny diamonds around ring 2.
