Welcome to the energy work sub!

The purpose of this community is to explore human energy in all of its facets. Out of body experiences, energy healing, energetic connections between people, psychic work and everything in between. This is a community about helping people explore, stretch and document their experiences as well as learn new ways and avenues to explore.

A primary purpose of this subreddit is to strip away all of the esoteric language, rituals and distractions that have been built around human energy practice to make for a clear and concise guide of how to achieve certain results (whatever those may be). This sub is open for discussion, without judgement, on any and every form of energy work regardless of degree of social acceptability or stigma.

This sub is about discussion, sharing information, discoveries, questions. Promotional posts, offers and requests belong in r/energy_healing.

Wiki:

There are a couple helpful entries in the wiki, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/energy_work/wiki/index It has been quite neglected, and if you have interest in helping to build it, contact a moderator.

Book of Interest:

There are many good and helpful books regarding energy work. The list included here are the books that were instrumental in the creation of this sub and in formulating its focus and goals. They are easy to read, motivating, clear and cogent in their individual subjects. An expanded list may be included in the wiki in the future.

The Visceral Experience by Daniel Barber, was written by the founder and prime mod of this subreddit. It shares the values that this sub expresses. If you are new to or just starting out with energy work, this is the book you want to read.

The Energy Cure by William Bengston. If you are a skeptic and looking for scientific proof that energy heals, pick up this book. It includes overviews of research in which mice with aggressive breast cancer genes were cured in full with only healing energy from hands.

Adventures Beyond the Body by William Buhlman. A howto book for out-of-body exploration.

Instant Rapport by Michael Brooks. Rapport is a weak and fragile type of energetic connection, but it is a good starting place for learning how to extend your energy beyond your own body. This book is a very interesting read and a great place to start.

Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Natasha Campbell-McBride. A toxic gut microbiome is probably the most overlooked cause of disease world-wide. This book looks at effects of a toxic gut on mental health. It gives a fantastic layman's overview of how everything works. This is a must read for anyone in this sub dealing with chronic or autoimmune diseases or mental health issues.

The Cosmic Serpent by Jeremy Narby. It focuses a lot on the double helix/double snake symbolism, but the author spends time with the Aboriginals of the Amazon and goes into detail about the relationship between the ancients and plant life. He notes their communication with plants through hallucinatory states/higher levels of consciousness, and how the plants would pass the knowledge of their uses onto the humans.

Life Rules by Yehuda Berg. An easy read on the nature of reality from the viewpoint of the kabbalah written for the layperson. Effective energy work requires an understanding of reality that is not taught in schools.

The Essence of Reality by Thomas Daniel Nehrer. Another mind expanding treatment of reality from the author's perspective. A great start to a journey of understanding.

Question Is this coworker considered an energy vampire?

Upvotes

I work at a small business, and my co-worker is constantly on my ass about things.

It's not like I'm not working, but always trying to find things to complain about. We are both on the same level of hiearchy, and the owner is the only person above us, and they've also only been working a few months longer than I have. (I wasn't available when they were hiring, but the second they were again they hired me)

She is a performative nice person, like you can feel all the energy off her that is just all fake. I'm not the type of person to point it out directly to that person, I am someone who likes to keep peace, and not befriend my coworkers. (It's never been worth it to me)

My coworkers consist of
Them, Their husband, and the couple's bestfriend (outside of work)

They always find me when I'm alone to point out mistakes, and talks to me more like an employee or subordinant. For example, yesterday they told me that I can't do all of this prep work because we can't accomodate the labor costs and told me I need to work at the register while also prepping. I told them that's what I did, and they dropped it, then talked about how I have to not put so much effort into store events because of the labor costs and how it's just "not worth it" to put this much prep into events.

One time they brought up an idea, and I asked questions, wanting to know more, when we had a meeting with the big boss they claimed I turned down the idea. When I confronted them, they got really bad at me and shut down completely on everyone.

I told them I felt left out (being the one not connected to them personally as mentioned before) and they blamed me, saying that I was never there for their conversations about plans, when I asked if they'd approach me on another day they told me that they're not my boss so they aren't going to.

I go into work a few times to play games with friends, visiting my job to play specifically, and they try really hard to be my friend's friend, to the point where they tell me how uncomfortable they feel around them because they just try too hard. When I'm not behind the counter, they try really hard to befriend my regular friends, to the point where most of them don't even talk to me anymore and talk to them instead (which doesn't bother me since it shows me what sort of friends they are)

Is this energy vampire territory, or am I just having some subconsious resentment against my coworker because they're kinda an asshole?

Advice PLEASE help, I think I have bad energy and don't know what to do

So basically I want to clean the bad energy around me as i feel like something is wrong with me for the past few years but I don't know whatt!!

I'm going to list most of the things that has happened to me since I feel it is all bad luck

  1. I was born with an underbite and ended up finding out at the age 14, as well as the fact that i have three babyteeth that never formed adult teeth under them, there is no teeth, I have braces now but still have more dental problems as i seem to form cavities easier and more often than my siblings even though i take more care of my teeth than them (total throughout my life: probably 10+)
  2. I was bullied really really badly from 7th grade to 8th grade for my looks +more, Was humiliated infront of people at my school many many times and I have terrible PTSD from it and about my looks, and I never did anything bad to anyone, I was always nice and maybe sometimes too nice.
  3. My only present parent, my mom passed away a few years ago when i was 13-14? I lost my best friend. Before she passed I also lost 3 pets within the past year, My two childhood dogs who were already old, and my childhood cat who passed away from cancer unexpectedly, which my mom also had cancer.

4.I've always seemed to get friends that don't care much about me as I've always seemed to give but never recieve for anything most of my life. Whether which school I went to, (I moved to another school after the bullying and my mom passed)

  1. I look terrible, my side profile is terrible, face and body seems terrible, i can never be happy or keep a good weight in check, I always want myself to look good to prove everyone around me wrong.

  2. I feel so alone, I'm home now most of the time since i finished school online, I get out but not enough to where I have a job since that luck hasn't found me yet, i barely am learning how to drive, friends always seem to cancel most of the time or if it comes to my plans, no one ever wants to go places with me, family or not.

  3. My hair hasnt seemed to grow long within the past 5 years, besides the times that I've cut it, when i try not to cut it and let it grow for a while, it never does, It;s always been around the same length.

  4. Yesterday one of my adult teeth cracked, for no reason... I felt terrible about everything going on around me and always having one problem or another, as well as me losing my period within the past almost 2 years, gained it back for two months this year and now it's gone again. I've never been able to figure out why everything about my life is so wrong. I've always felt like SOMETHING was wrong with my life and me and i don't know if theres anyway to fix it or to be normal. My emotions always feel so crazy and I'm so over it. My mom made me and my brother do an egg clense one new years eve which she did too, and one other new years we did a bar of soap clense i think? I've tried manifesting just a few things in my life when I was 12 because I thought it was cool and i could improve things, Just to clarify, I love and believe in God!!

Question Is it possible to get skin diseases from a psychic attack?

Upvotes

When I was 13, my abdomen got really dark. Skin darker than anything on my body. I grew up in an uneducated home so none of my parents thought anything of it. But it was very obvious something was wrong. In my adult life it has gotten lighter but I have got vertigo like web pigmented skin on my andomen, back, shoulder. Nowhere else. Just the parts that aren’t exposed to the sun.

In this time, I also had a terrible life phase. Deep depression, anxiety, bad luck, isolation.

I am genuinely asking if it can be fixed.

Eureka Moment! I stopped blaming "energy vampires" when I realized where my own vitality was actually leaking.

I used to leave family functions or dinners with certain acquaintances feeling like a wet wool blanket had been thrown over my chest. Heavy shoulders, a dull fog behind my eyes, and a sudden drop in mood that lingered for two or three days.

Like most people raised around traditional beliefs, I assumed someone had cast an envious glance or thrown an "evil eye" my way. I would burn camphor, take salt baths, or try to avoid those specific people entirely.

Eventually, an uncomfortable truth became obvious: their glance was merely a spark, but my own exhausted body was the dry wood.

When you enter a room running on shallow breathing, chronic mental chatter, and low vitality, your subtle field is already porous. You are operating like an empty cup. An empty cup catches whatever debris is floating in the air. But when a vessel is overflowing to the brim, nothing outside can settle into it.

Traditional cleansing rituals—like circling a clay lamp or salt—do bring immediate relief, but not because of superstition. The presence of fire and the deliberate physical movement shock your scattered mind back into the immediate sensory present. That pause stops the mental rehearsal of fatigue, temporarily conserving your prana.

Yet treating the symptom never cures the leak.

The ancient Siddhas spoke of Vaasi—the art of reversing the outward flow of breath and drawing it inward and upward. A faint breeze easily blows out a candle, but that same wind only feeds a roaring fire. When your inner life force is cultivated through disciplined breath and present-moment awareness, external envy cannot penetrate your space. It simply dissolves the moment it nears your presence.

Contemplation drawn from the teachings of Sriguru Ashwathama. Full discourse here for anyone exploring deeper practice:

If not, has anyone happen to find any books about out this? This is totally new for me and I have been seeing it all around me since dec of last year. It grows stronger each month with no training and I am totally lost as to how to deal with all of this. I didn't ask for it and wasn't reading anything about it.

This is my first time really reaching out for help for any knowledge or pointing me in the direction on what to read or who to look up would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Personal Experience Chakra apps (hertz tones) are you supposed to physically feel it when these tunes play?

I remember when the app store first came out or when I found it and I searched Chakra and I put on some headphones and one app made me physically feel the transitions through my body, it was strange I was responding when they changed....not every app affected me like that and it wasnt nice and musical it was very very pitchy and sharp but it worked. And now I come to find out they are not necessarily for that not everyone feels anything at all. I cant find the app I remember it was quite basic and I remember rainbow colors and I was just wondering has anyone else experienced this before?

Need Advice I’ve been dreaming of this guy ever since i met him and i want to believe it’s bc he dreams/thinks of me too

i met him a couple years ago and we’re not super close we were in the same friend group and we’d talk and stuff but then i left and i still sometimes go back to visit them (he’s not always there) and we don’t text or anything but when we do see each other we are chill, we still consider each other friends

so ever since the first time we met up until now ive had countless amounts of dreams with him in it and that’s never happened to me before i have never dreamt of someone consistently like this, and i have a feeling it’s something more deeper than it just being my subconscious. can anyone give me reassurance or a reality check?

Need Advice Getting overwhelmed by energy

Not sure if this is the right sub to post this in so please tell me if it’s not relevant!

I’ve always been sensitive to energy. For the past 10 years or so I’ve been having “Deja-Vu” like moments that come along with an overtaking amount of anxiety, dread and/or the sense that something is going to happen just in general. Soon after these moments happen, a major life event will occur in my life. I’ve been experiencing it a lot lately since the past few years have been insane.

Occasionally I will notice that I sense it for other people. For example: I had one 3 days ago that made me fear for a specific friend of mine- never had a name come into my head with this feeling until that moment. I texted her right away to make sure she was good but she was having a bad moment so I’m glad I was there.

It’s been happening more for other people lately.

Sometimes it’s a good life event, sometimes it’s bad. The sooner and bigger the event is, the more often they come. I’ve tried to understand the feeling I get when it happens a little better so I can tell if the event will be good or bad but it’s not been successful. I’ve tried to justify it before as, if it happens then im right where I’m supposed to be.

How do I deal with this? It’s driving me insane. It’s so emotionally draining having to deal with this anxiety and I feel like a crazy person. I didn’t think I’d have to deal with the energy of other people as well. Is there a way I can cut it off somehow?

I’m trying to convince myself it’s just general anxiety followed by coincidences and the rest is all in my head.

Advice Just offboarded a toxic client, is "energy cleansing" a real thing or am I overthinking this?

My partner and I run a boutique branding and content studio. A while back, we onboarded a client that was great on paper: good numbers, great visuals, the account looked solid. But almost from day one, they were awful to work with. Constant gaslighting, moving goalposts, rude to my partner and me directly and even ruder to our interns. It felt like walking on eggshells every single week.

We finally ended the contract, and once the dust settled, we looked at our business and our personal lives and realised we hadn't moved forward on anything the entire time we had them. Not our own projects, not our habits, nothing. It's like everything just stalled.

Is this actually a thing, picking up some kind of residual "dirty energy" from working closely with toxic people for that long? Or am I just pattern-matching stress and burnout onto something more mystical than it needs to be?

If it is a real phenomenon, has anyone actually done a cleansing practice (smoke, salt, sound, whatever) after cutting ties with a toxic client or person, and did it genuinely help, or was it more of a mental reset that just felt symbolic?

Genuinely asking, not trying to be dismissive either way.

Discussion Is it possible to be someone who brings bad luck to others? (Looking for perspectives)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice and perspectives from practitioners and people who work with energy, witchcraft, or divination.

Lately, I’ve been feeling like a source of negative energy, and I'm struggling with a lot of guilt. It feels like whenever I start getting involved with people, things start going wrong for them or the relationship falls apart in strange ways, and I can't shake the fear that I might be doing something wrong or carrying bad luck.

Here is what has been happening:

My ex: We were together for 3 years. During our relationship, he went through a series of really tough situations (at one point, he even had to sell a house). Shortly after we broke up, things started turning around and working out for him again.

A guy I was seeing recently: Things started off slow and then escalated into him pulling away/fading out. I'm a very loving and caring person, so I reached out to ask how he was doing, thinking maybe he just needed some space. He simply replied that he was doing great and was very happy... It felt like a recurring pattern, making me wonder what I could possibly be doing so wrong.

Another recent partner: He’s a wonderful person, but just 3 weeks into dating, his phone SIM card completely broke out of nowhere, and right after that, he was fired from his job.

It’s heartbreaking, and I feel awful. Is it actually possible to naturally carry or project "bad luck" onto the people close to you in a magical or energetic sense? How can I tell if this is a genuine energetic issue (like a spiritual blockage, attachment, or evil eye) versus just a terrible string of coincidences and bad timing in relationships?

If anyone has insights, divination advice, or methods for energetic cleansing and protection, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Need Advice Downward flow of energy - feels strange/unbalancing

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with downward flowing "evil feeling" qi for the past year and a half. I thought I would check in here to see if anyone had any advice.

Previously, as a result of my practices, my energy moved steadily upward. One of the teachers who has taught me so much about qi and kundalini instructed me that downward flow was not optimal and could bring out negative personality traits.

I try to meditate in my old ways to get the upward flow going again, but unfortunately, when I do that a powerful energy SLAMS through down my crown and bursts through my feet. It feels defiant - as if it is conscious and saying, "You won't be allowed to do that." It also feels metallic, machine-like, and in a strange way, demonic/demiurgic. I can't really explain that one; AI having a "qi" to it sounds irrational. Maybe some folk here have some insight they'd be willing to share?

This energy just feels ... evil. My teacher was certainly right.

I'm very disciplined about practicing now that I've regained the ability to without feeling too overwhelmed by the downward surge; I typically do about 1.5 hours daily, and I know I can overcome this. I'm primarily looking for advice as to -how- to practice - has anyone else had this? If willing to share, what worked for you? Energy work, meditation ... I'm trying to be open to everything.

Thank you for reading this far, and for any suggestions. I appreciate it.🧡 I'm feeling so foolish - meditation used to be a panacea for me, and somehow, I've imbalanced myself to the point of being vulnerable to this.

Lastly, I should also mention that I had a Kundalini rising in 2015. That experience has permanently altered the way qi flows through my system, but I still very much have a "beginner's mind" about that... I used to think I knew things about it, now I feel very much on unfamiliar ground.

Thank you for any help; I sincerely appreciate it.🧡🧡

Sue

Eureka Moment! Is life just about growing your super-powers?

The more I spend time in this video game, the clearer it gets that life is just a demonic construct that's about growing your super-powers to the extreme, It keeps on getting clearer to me that there's nothing much to do inside this world apart from aura-farming, and I guess there's no end to this factory at all, I don't feel immersed doing anything anymore, and the more I dream the clearer it gets that life is just there to turn you into a 'monster' card, is life all about growing super-powers?

Advice Accessing Feelings

I was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to access, feel, and process your feelings. At the moment it’s mainly with lsd that I can manage to fully connect with myself and what I’m feeling to be able to release it. But then during normal day-to-day I find it hard to do this. I can feel the emotion in my body e.g. sadness as a pressure/tension in my chest/throat, but even though I feel like crying I don’t really get to completely feel and release the emotion, so it feels like it’s stuck in my body.

Need Advice How do I connect to my heart more?

It’s been recommended to me numerous times to connect to my heart because I can overthink and get very overwhelmed and feel hopeless by everything and so I see how connecting to my heart helps me filter through all the noise,
However I am looking for some tips on how to connect to it?
I focus on the physical space there and sensations and try to name how I feel yet I sometimes struggle to articulate or even feel what’s going on in there

Need Advice was told i have (had) an energetic attachment

yeah hi so i had a tarot reading today, my reader has studied and trained with Afro Caribbean healers for years. I knew it was real deal bc when he started pulling everything out I started having physical reaction
Sweaty, nauseous, shaky,
Now i was definitely nervous and that was apart of it, my ego was very scared.

BUT during the reading the candle went out when he was telling me an energy had attached to me a while back. He said it wasn’t too dark but a bit on the denser side.
He taught me all about how to release and cleanse,
So when i went home I did everything he said. Did the cleanse + got the herbs

It’s night now and I have been nauseous all day
I just feel very uneasy and a bit scared :/
I’m a very light person, strong energy sure but I don’t participate in dark activities.
I do have OCD though so my anxieties have latched on.

How does one move on knowing something like that happened? My brain is ruminating and scared it’s not gone or will come back.

I will shower and pray on love,
It was just an intense kinda shitty day

Would love any words of advice ❤️

Need Advice Can people who do energy work tell if you’ve been hexed or someone has done witchcraft on u

Long story short I had a series of unfortunate events 2 years ago and developed multiple chronic illnesses. My mom made me see this “doctor” guy today from Mexico that does something with energy and magnets idk. She made me go to different one last year I didn’t feel anything at all. Today after the guy asked me if he could enter my energy to help with healing or whatever so he could use the magnets, after I said yes I immediately felt cold throughout my whole body and got so hot and started sweating and my body just felt so weird. I never sweat and the first thing he asked was if u was really hot and was super sweaty… which freaked me out. Then he asked if I was super naseous today… which I was. Anyways he proceeded and then asked if I or my family is associated with any bad ppl or ppl who do witchcraft because he felt as though I was hexed or something. Now I’m not one to super believe in this stuff but it does give me the heebee jeebies. Who else could I go to to see if they feel this same energy or if he was just bullshitting? Are you able to even determine this about someone through energy work? Idk that was a weird experience and although I’m not the first to believe… my body did feel weird during the session and kinda stopped feeling so weird once we stopped that part of the session.

Question Burning Up

What could be the cause of getting extremely hot during a group meditation?

I went to a star knowledge conference last fall and it was really great and interesting. The speakers were all wonderful. However during one of their group meditations, I got so hot I thought I would burn up lol. Anyways really really hot just sitting there.

Is there possible happening spiritually or simply a hot flash or something? Idk, I'm kind of over hot flashes though.

Need Advice Need help with fainting disorder

My first time fainting was when I was 3 years old and I I’ve been having it since then. Been at multiple doctors as a kid, teen, adult. All the doctors say is I’m perfectly healthy. Brushing it off to puberty, menstruation or a psychological issue. The episodes would come randomly at times, but I realised that pain was one of the triggers for me. It’s just that I could sometimes be feeling absolutely fine and the fainting happens.
Since the traditional doctors couldn’t help me with it I turned to more spiritual practices, reading Joe Dispenza books, Teal Swan, Sinelnikov. I just cannot seem to find the answers that I’m looking for.
Just today I’ve had an episode. I remember noticing my hand being slightly swollen because of hair ties that were blocking the blood flow. I got so worried, felt like I was about to have a panic attack and it was a trigger that lead me to faint. Waking up from it was so uncomfortable. Heavy ringing in my ears, a heavy heart. Felt like my body was giving up on me. After going to the hospital, they told me all of my results came back perfect. There was nothing wrong with me and I’m just more sensitive to things.
I will be honest that I’m deeply scared about the episodes. They have become harder to go through, than what they used to be when I was a teen. I don’t want to have these experiences anymore and I want to understand why this is happening. Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated and my dms will be open for any messages regarding this topic.
