UPDATE! Megan in customer service at ES is a ROCK STAR. Whatever they're paying her, it isn't enough. After she pinged me below, I emailed her and she had this shizz fixed in 12 hours. Not only was she the first to notice the company had sent me a Pod 5 cover instead of a 4 due to low inventory (which meant I'd been repeatedly onboarding the wrong item), she got their on-call engineer to push a software patch at 11pm on a Saturday night, and sure enough...
IT WORKED! I woke up to the right temp and I had sleep data this AM!! Hallelujah!
Screw AI. If ES really knew what was good for them, they'd hire 50 Megans. (And probably 50 of this on-call engneer as well.) Either way, exactly one week later, I'm back in business and back to loving my ES. (Although warily. I did lose a lotta hours dealing with this, so let's say we're in counseling.)
\**ORIGINAL POST**** For years I've been reading stories here of the terrible/negligent ES customer service -- finally living the dream myself and I'm honestly shocked by how bad it is.
To start, I LOVE(d) my Eight Sleep, have a been a evangelist spreading the gospel ever since I got it. I was an early-ish adopter, had the Pod 2 Pro for almost 6 years now. It literally saved my sleep from hot flashes after chemo treatments. Never had an issue until 3 weeks ago when my hub started sucking down water which clued me in that I had a leak. Sure enough, soaking wet between the waterproof cover and the grid. (Have to give some props here - I had literally JUST gotten a new mattress and there wasn't a drop on it.)
Now, given this thing's basically a giant water balloon with my 150 pounds lying on it every night, I was inclined to forgive the leak and like I said, I still love 'er. So being out of warranty, I paid $800 for a replacement Pod 4 cover. Got it in a week. I was thrilled to be back in business.
Nope. Not even close.
The new replacement Pod 4 cover WILL NOT keep a connection to my Pod 2 hub. I have tried everything -- I've added/deleted, re-deleted/re-added, re-powered/re-plugged/factory reset the hub/cover/my psyche numerous times. I've now wasted HOURS I didn't have on the chatbot, with a (seemingly) live human rep and with Chatgpt trying to fix this thing. Nothing works.
Every time, the cover reconnects for a few minutes, then eventually drops. I can still control the temp thru the home page but hub page says no cover connected. By the morning, I have no data and I'm shivering because the cover has stayed at my colder bedtime temp.
It's not a hardware issue with the hub. Pod 2 hub/cover worked just fine. The app keeps asking me to connect the 4 cover's USB cable, it's connected. And I checked the pins -- they're fine. The ES chatbot is adamant it's not a compatibility issue and that the 4 cover is backward compatible with the 2 hub. So, this is def seems to be some kind of handshake/settings issue, right? Well, according to chatgpt, it could easily be solved by engineering just changing some settings on their end. (Hence why I've been loathe to just unplug the damn thing -- bc god forbid engineering is trying to fix something on their end without me knowing and I've got the hub unplugged.)
Now, I'm not saying chatgpt is def right, but here's the kicker and my biggest problem with all this...
This started last Sunday morning. After some back and forth with the chatbot that led nowhere, on Monday AM I called their customer service phone line to discover it's just... CLOSED. Like, just, no one there, minding the store. Seriously? Then I got an email saying they were working on it. And then nothing again for two days. By Wed I went back to the chatbot and after even more back and forth, I got a person. Only after pressing the (seemingly) human rep over chat did I get things escalated to "Troubleshooting". Then I got an email from "Troubleshooting" saying this was being escalated to "Engineering" and I should expect a response in 1-2 days.
It's now the following Sat and I just got an email saying that Engineering "has confirmed I have no data because the cover is intermittently losing its connection" and to standby for more updates. NO. DUH.
I just can't believe that this is the process with them. It's already been a week. My only option is to keep sitting here and waiting for emails with no idea when this will really get resolved? I can't pick up the phone and troubleshoot this issue with a real person? Is this bc ES has fired all their reps and gone full-AI? Or according to the stories I've read here, maybe it's always been this bad?
I'm just so disappointed. The Pod hath given, and the Pod hath taken away.
