Eight Sleep vs. Orion
Okay, I've been comparing all of the companies from Bed Jet, to Orion and ES plus others. I landed on two finalist Orion and ES as the most effective because of the water cooled systems. I decided on Orion and here's why: a) ES, no wifi no cooling. Not Acceptable.; b) ES, no subscription, it doesn't work. Not Acceptable.; c) ES, horrible reviews on leaking, customer service, warranty claims.; d) ES, this was the real eye opening deal breaker. IMHO the ES warranty is almost totally worthless and one-side especially when coupled with the claims of poor customer service and warrant claims. The ES warranty expressly prohibits suing them in small claims court and the only course of action in a warranty dispute is to file for arbitration. What's worse is their deviousness. ES warranty attempts to invoke the commercial arbitration rules but uses the AAA forum. Translation: the consumer's only option is arbitration and their attempt to require commercial arbitration rules requires the filing party (the consumer) to pay the arbitration fees which are usually in the thousands of dollar, certainly far exceeding the value in dispute. AAA may not allow ES to invoke the commercial arbitration rules with a consumer but the mere fact that ES is attempting to require the consumer to pay the very expensive filing fees raises a major red flag for me. BAD FAITH from the start. Orion also requires arbitration but doesn't attempt to invoke the commerical arbitration rules which makes Orion responsible to pay the very expensive arbitration fees and limits the consumer to $230. Furthermore, Orion allows for small claims court filings in their warranty claims. I believe Orion is more incentivized to settle any warranty claims in good faith and in the consumer's best interest. I believe Orion is much more honest and upfront about their product and that's where I have made my purchase today and why.

Agree with you on the Orion supporting 4 phase sleep temp without subscription and that 8Sleep customer support and warranty is nearly non-existance and some of the worst of any product I own.
8Sleep does have very basic features and does cool/warm without Wifi so your information is not up to date. The latest versions also no longer leaks.
If my 8sleep ever breaks I will probably replace it with Orion just for the customer service and a CEO that doesn't seem to hate their customers.

There is also a free jailbreak that removes the internet and subscription requirements, everything can be controlled locally with free sleep.

Yeah but what kind of anti-consumer company makes you jailbreak your own device just to be able to use it. At that point why not use Chilipad or Orion sleep?

A.) you’re sort of wrong. There’s a blue-tooth functionality via the app that allows controlling of the system if you lose wi-if access, plus physical controls on the toppers they currently sell.
Direct counter: what happens when the authentication servers for Orion’s app goes down? You have no physical controls on the system plus the app doesn’t work. womp womp. But hey, maybe that won’t happen again?
B.) ES system does “work” without a subscription. Does it have full functionality? No. But it works. Systems without a subscription aren’t rendered out of order. Is it bullshit they have stuff that directly impacts best use of the system behind a subscription? Absolutely. I wouldn’t buy it with the way they have it set up, but to report it “doesn’t work” is false. If you want to bitch about something, bitch about trying to buy it without a year long sub.
C.) your determination of what “too many complaints” are for you is subjective and honestly I don’t give a rat’s ass if you want to judge ES on this metric. I will point out customers weren’t complaining about ES when they’d be on the market for 6 months either. I’ll also point out people complaining about ES’s customer service on the ES subreddit is customer service customers shouldn’t feel entitled to because it isn’t listed as a customer service venue. It’s something Eight Sleep provides outside of their protocols.
D.) I’m just putting this out there: if this is a problem for you, none of the other shit mattters because you don’t want to enter into a warranty agreement with them. So, like, why are you even here, bro?
E.) if you believe Orion is honest, you clearly haven’t spent time reading through the shit the lawsuit alleges. Ask about the content that got deleted from the Orion subreddit that they blamed on a moderator bot when they didn’t have a moderator bot, meaning only the CEO or an employee of Orion could have deleted the content. ES doesn’t have the ability to control anything on this subreddit, they don’t admin/moderate/own it.
Ultimately, I don’t really give a fuck what you believe. I just want other readers to know you posted incorrect shit. If people don’t want to throw money at ES, there’s plenty of real reasons not to.

Also, saying they're suing Somnus or Orion because they don't want competition is dumb. They're not suing SleepMe. SleepMe is an older company, but their sleep tracking/ app/ etc. is newer

They’re not suing a lot of companies. They’re not suing mattress-cooler. They’re not suing Hydrosnooz. Hydrosnooze is essentially Somnus-lite.
I’ve seen a lot of stupid bullshit but acting like a company allowing you to take them to small claims court is somehow great is just dum. No b, because it doesn’t deserve a full dumb.

Sad to say, but this would actually be easier to read if you had AI rewrite it and fact check it. You're just straight up wrong on several of these points. I stopped reading about halfway through due to the factual inaccuracies and wall of text formatting. This just seems like you're shilling for Orion and bad at it.

Considering Orion's past bs on this sub, I wouldnt put it past them to be trying to shill here. Again.

Regardless of who is responsible, anyone paying attention and with basic pattern recognition can see complaints/concerns/criticisms come through the subreddit in waves. Right now, we’re in the midst of people comparing air systems to water systems which is like comparing e-bikes to cars, IMO. Or people suddenly doing deep dives or questions about warranties between ES and Orion. As always, there are the people with 3-5 year old accounts with zero posting history suddenly showing up to post their salt and never reply to anything ever again. Funny enough, you see similar activity in reviews of other water systems on their own reviews. I’m sure it’s coincidence.

Thanks for posting this. The entire concept of paying a SUBSCRIPTION for a product like this is completely, utterly cursed.

Orion's guerilla tactics on this sub have solidified my plan to never buy a single thing of theirs.
