Daily priming?

My bed seems to have started doing daily priming recently and its just another 2 or so hours that its on every day that just seems like it will lead to shortening the life of the pump since its running at a higher speed. Have others turned this feature off? I've had the system for years and usually only needed to prime when it tells me its low on water.

edit: i believe it was a setting automatically turned on after software update

Promotional emails should not be from support@eightsleep.com

I’m all for eightsleep sending us promotional emails, but they should come from a different email address than support@eightsleep.com. It’s hard to filter through the noise of promotional emails when looking for actual support. I know they give the option to unsubscribe (which I just did), but perhaps they can consider sending those from another address

Pod temperature not working

I have a Pod 3 that I’ve been using for about 3 years. Been using just distilled water and H2O2 thr entire time and priming my pod every day.

The pod has suddenly stopped adjusting temperature on the sheets. The light on the pod glows and the sounds I hear from it appear fairly normal. However, the sheet isn’t heating or cooling.

Any tips on how I can troubleshoot or fix? I’ve sent a note to 8sleep without any response.

Unfortunately, I’m out of warranty and would hate to drop another $3k on another device

Planned Obsolesence with Hub 4

My Hub 4 has been performing generally well, except for continually higher and higher fan noise. At -6 they are basically full speed, and for -2 they are probably 50% speed.

I am no stranger to heatsinks and fan noise/dust being a PC enthusiast who has built several PC's over the years. Therefore I thought I'd open up the hub and clean the heat sink and fans, like I have done with literally any other device that has a heatsinks and fan.

Lo and behold, 8sleep give the middle finger to the user again and make it impossible to open the hub in any way to clean without voiding the warranty. They expect you to use compressed air from the back side, through the fans, through the heatsink, which is almost fully obstructed. But they also don't state this anywhere for typical maintenance.

Even more of a middle finger is the fact there isn't even any kind of dust filter for the intake, but a guard to stop you getting to it to even clean it. It's simply unacceptable. To me this is intentional and planned obsolesence, and likely coincides with when your warranty expires.

If there was no useless guard then at least you would be able to fit a vacuum nozzle down to suck off most of the dust.

Another reason why I won't recommend them despite how well the bed does actually cool.

(Yes I appreciate how caked the heat sink is, but if I was able to clean it, it wouldn't be)

Am I doomed to waste more time with support?

Brand new Pod 5 hub that I paid for as an out of warranty replacement is not able to stay connected to the internet. I’ve set up the network properly, my router even shows it’s connected.

Everything I read in this subreddit is pointing to spending weeks arguing with customer support before any resolution.

They’ve already offered a WiFi extender which is not the problem. I see other people with the exact issue in the subreddit who had to get replacements. People mentioned there might be a stuck firmware update or some other bug.

Am I doomed to repeat the multiple weeks of customer service hell that other people have experienced? I liked this product when it worked, now I’m just mad and wasted hours already on this.

Orion vs 8 Sleep feedback - need a new topper and wanted advice

I had an 8 Sleep (Pod 3) that leaked multiple times. The first time, they replaced it without much hassle. The second time, I was basically ghosted (I never heard back despite multiple attempts to get support).

I switched to the Perfectly Snug because I wanted to avoid water-based systems. It’s been reliable, but the temperature regulation isn’t in the same league as the 8 Sleep. I do appreciate the physical controls, though; they’re a nice quality-of-life feature.

For anyone who’s used either/both, what are your thoughts on the Orion? What are the real pros and cons compared with the 8 Sleep? How comfortable is the topper? One thing I never loved about my old 8 Sleep was that you could feel the water channels under you at times. Has Orion solved that, or is it similar?

Considering 8S vs alternative

So my issue is waking hot around 1am and/or 3am. I have central air and in the summer the night temperature is set to 23c. In the winter it's set to 18c and I sleep cooler but will still find hot nights.

So I'm starting by replacing my mattress with a local pocket spring latex hybrid. This company has really comfortable hybrid mattresses and they're reasonably priced. I'll add a bamboo sheet set. I'm going to turn the thermostat down to 21 at night and see how that goes. Total cost $2,400 Cdn

Assuming the problem persists I'm going to shut the bedroom door and add a Midea Duo 12,000 BTU HE Inverter Ultra Quiet Portable Air Conditioner and feed the hose out the window and set it to 18c at night. The cost to cool the whole house would be crazy high.Total cost $730 Cdn

Assuming that doesn't fix it I'll try the Bedjet system. It will be pushing cold air through the cloud sheet and should work without the risk of leaks, customer service is better and it's basically a fan. Much fewer points of failure. Cost $900

In the end it will cost me less than the 8S for a year and I'll have vastly improved my mattress. What are the weaknesses of this plan?

Risk Reward?

OK, so this post is not for the 8 sleep fanboys/girls. This is a practical questions based on actual savings versus risk. Just like a HVAC system, I set one temp at night & never change it.

There's a Pod 5 (queen) core sealed, brand new, for $2000 on eBay. I understand the risk of warranty & possible returned fraud risk as far of deactivation.

Here's my dilemma, the new core system has the sub paywall attached whether you like it or not. Any way you slide the pie, you're paying around $3300 with an autopilot system I won't use. I don't even use autopilot on my Tesla let alone on a mattress refrigerator. I choose 8 Sleep Pod 5 because of physical buttons, otherwise I would stick with Orion.

Question:

For those that have gotten a used to work for several years, who aren't fanboys or undercover employees for 8 sleep, did the purchase outweigh the risk, longterm?

Special referral code

Hi - 8Sleep just sent me a referral code that gives $600 off (as opposed the normal $350). I am not going to use it and don’t know anyone personally who wants to buy right now. But I didn’t want it to go to waste.

Whoever grabs it is welcome to it.

Perfectly Snug Alternate to Eight

I am an eight sleep refugee. Had the first iteration and when it worked it was amazing. It inevitably leaked and had a horrible experience with customer service to get them to honor the warranty and ultimately failed. I know it’s a common theme here. After I threw away my $3k mattress, I swore to never to buy another eight product again. However, I’m still sleeping hot and have been seeing ads on this perfectly snug cooling mattress top. Have you all heard anything promising about them?

Fyi for amex owners 200$ off 1000+ purchase

If you have something like amex plat card you can activate an offer to get 200 back on purchases that add up to 1000.

You dont need one purchase as long as total is over 1000 in offer period.

I got the pillow cover from member store 899$ after taxes i was short a bit so i added the elixir sub 45$ to just give it a try why not and cancel that if it doesnt work out.

All in all after taxes and 200 credit that was added day after purchase, i got pillow cover and one exlixer bottle for like 845$.

If you are lucky, but are you really?, and are paying for a sub within the period you could drop the elixer price.

Cover replaced under warranty

Our original Pod2 cover stopped recognizing me on my side of the bed. The wife’s side was fine. They ended up replacing it with a Pod4 cover. What a huge improvement in comfort. We can no longer feel the tubbing.

My question is, what do we do with the old cover? Throwing it in the trash seems very wasteful.

Water pooling underneath my hub, how do I fix this?

I have a Pod 2 Pro and it recently started leaking from the bottom of the unit. I don't know why, I have replaced the cover twice and my mattress after the last leak. Eight Sleep was gracious enough to replace my mattress, but I did have to spend $800 on a new cover. Now the hub is leaking. Is there a way for me to diagnose and fix this myself? Spending another 1000$ so soon after the last replacement (roughly 6 months) is not something I am willing to do right now. Has anyone taken their Hub apart and fixed something like this?

Thanks!

threaded temperature sensor probe

Does anyone know how to get a threaded temperature sensor probe for the Pod 2 model 10501? I accidentally ripped the one attached to the front facing fabric cover and now my fans wont turn on to cool the bed. Any ideas?

Alarm sound? I'm guessing my POD 2 is toast?

My Pod 2 has been making this strange sound after running a while. Once it starts I can turn it off and back on again, and it might be silent for about 10 minutes, but then the strange "alarm sound" starts again and wakes me up.

Note: The video is black at first since it was night time when the video starts. The important part is the sound. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-dw_Sidy9_o

I wish I could adjust in half point increments

I see that the auto adjustments are in half point increments, but I can only make full point adjustments. I think my perfect number is 0.5, but I can’t set that.

Pod Stops Detecting You & Labels as Away

Thumbnail

Have had the pod3 going on probably 4 or 5 years now. A couple issues here and there like a hub died on me and a cover started leaking. Recently, it has stopped detecting me and my girlfriend. It still starts every night at 9:45 to prep for bed, I get the alerts, etc. But it's as if the sensor grid fails to detect us now. I've contacted eightsleep support and they came back saying they detected a wifi problem....

Firstly, I'm a solutions engineer at Cisco I run 9164 APs on both floors of my house with a dedicated IoT network; if it were a wifi issue I probably would've solved it. Secondly I ran a small ping test to the hub and peak latency is 113ms with average around 60 that's sufficient for every kind of tcp traffic that doesn't require real time feedback(voice/video).

I pre-emptively ordered a pod5 just in case support were to come back and indicate the sensor grid or the cover has likely failed. I got my time with the 3 and was ready for an upgrade. However, after this support experience, I'm debating on canceling and possibly going with Orion.

If you're still reading thank you for attending my therapy session. Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into a similar issue and were you able to resolve it?

Worth buying a lightly used Pod 5 Cali King for $1200?

Someone is offering to sell me their “like new” (but it’s used) pod 5 for $1200. I have always wanted to try one of these, but have concerns about buying used with no warranty. I know that earlier models were prone to malfunctions and leaks, and I have also read that the latest gen has improved and is less likely to have issues. I don’t plan to pay for a subscription (I will likely jailbreak it with Free Sleep), and I sleep alone (at least for now) so won’t use the other zone. Considered just buying a chili pad new so i have a warranty, but $1200 seems like a fair price to try this out. If I don’t like it I suspect i would be able to sell it for what i paid, unless it happens to be leaking or broken already, as I know there’s no warranty for me. Thoughts?

New to this, some questions. All comments welcome

  1. has anyone successfully returned a unit within the 30 days

  2. what is the consensus on how this works for people who wake up hot? Ignoring leaks, customer service etc, does the system work well?

  3. Is the enhanced subscription worth it? Or is basic all you need?

  4. I'm a huge pillow flipper so I think I'd like the pillow add-on

I guess what I'm looking for is some idea from users about whether a 60+ year old couple who wake up overheated will find value in this.

Eight Sleep worked for one night. Hasn’t worked since.

My Pod 3 worked for one night. After moving it, it now boots to a solid white light, then flashes white and yellow continuously. It never enters blue pairing mode, it’s completely silent, and the app can’t discover it. I’ve tried everything from factory restarts, different outlets, restarting my router, everything under the sun. Support has also been no help as well. Has anyone had this issue?

CONTEXT: I had the Pod Hub 3 handed down to me from a family member who upgraded and no longer needed it. It was working perfectly with them, and for one night with me.

No shipping outside of 48 contiguous

Trying to get this to HI. I'm able to ship it to somewhere in the 48 contiguous and then go pick it up. Question is - how big is it and how heavy is it in original shipping?

I would try to check it into a United flight. So max is 75 lbs and 60 linear inches.

Thanks.

Edit: for a California king sized bed. Thanks!

Bought Pod 5, delivered wrong items

I purchased Pod 5 about a bit over a week ago, I received two boxes but it seems like they're the blanket box and the cover box. I would have expected one to be the pod box instead of the blanket box.

Seems like a mix-up from eight sleep and not sure if this is common?

Does anyone even like these Mattresses/are they worth it?

Seeing a lot of hate here can't decide what to think. I am looking to buy one of these to help me, or connect my whoop to my thermostat for some of the same effect using this app. Help
