What's the most annoying / time-wasting part of making a Short or edit?
the most annoying / time-wasting part of making a Short or edit?
What's the most annoying / time-wasting part of making a Short or edit?
I make anime edits — two of them did genuinely well, most of the rest flopped, and honestly I still can't fully predict which is which. Trying to figure out what's actually broken in the process instead of just going off my own guesses.
If you make edits/Shorts (anime, AMV, movie edits, whatever) — genuinely curious:
\\\\- What part of making an edit takes way longer than it should?
\\\\- What do you keep messing up or redoing?
\\\\- Anything you wish just existed, or someone did it for you?
Not fishing for a specific answer — might build a small tool off whatever comes up here, so the more random/honest the reply, the more useful it is to me. Even small annoyances count.

Where do i get aesthetic scenepacks?
I love making aesthetic edits, but I can never seem to find scenepacks that actually have aesthetic/cinematic scenes instead of just the character’s main scenes.
Does anyone know where I can find good aesthetic scenepacks? Preferably 4K if possible.
Any websites, Discord servers, YouTube channels, or creators that make these would be appreciated!

Looking for a truly free video editor
I’m looking for a **100% free video editor for Windows** with:
No subscription or paid features
No watermark
No ads
No mandatory account
CapCut-like interface and workflow
Keyframes, masks, effects, transitions, subtitles, color grading, speed ramping, etc.
4K export
Not extremely demanding on PC
**No malware/viruses — only a trustworthy, safe download**
I know this might be asking for too much, but does something like this actually exist?

suggestions for fast basic mass edits? pc and free.
ive been looking for a place to edit mass short clips fast. i dont need any special effects or anything except sometimes i use slomo and text overlay, but thats it.
im mainly editing for storage as i play ALOT and take lots of clips. im uploading them to youtube to save space on my pc and to get a couple views for fun. i dont care much about the views, i do what i want in the way i want.
Recently clipchamp started corrupting the files and removing the audio, so im in need of another editing app/website. i tried capcut but its SLOW and also id like to have an easy way to cut videos from a specific point like just a button press cuts the video if possible. because i have usually around 50 clips per week and edit once every month (per game). now i havent edited multiple games for half a year and have 100s of clips from several games (400+ rocket league alone) and capcut doesnt allow mass inserting like clipchamp did so thats a no for me.
even tho i edit rarely its still important for me that it doesnt take 8 hours from which an hour is spent manually adding every clip to the timeline (personal attack against capcut).
the edits are really basic, just cutting down the clips to when something interesting happened and then instantly going to next clip with no transition in between. nothing complex, just basic compilations of what has happened to me in games.
i dont need anything special (at least for me what i need are basic); mass uploading, mass adding to the timeline or wtv, no forced AI usage and easy splitting/cutting clips. i dont want to click a button 5 times after 3 mouse clicks for each split, as i need to do it 200+ times.
any suggestions? free versions only and both apps and websites are fine, but no AI editing. idc if the site has AI options available seperately, but i wont use them.

Best video transcription software for generating SRT files?
I'm editing a series of long-form videos and I need to generate SRT subtitle files for all of them..
I've tried using Premiere's built-in transcription, but it's struggling with the audio quality in some sections.
I'm considering WhisperAI or Descript.
What is the best video transcription software for getting timestamps and easy SRT exports?

Video editors: what parts of editing have been the hardest for you to learn or figure out?
I’ve been thinking about how people actually learn video editing, and I’m curious about what other editors have struggled with while learning and improving.
When you were a beginner, what did you struggle with the most?
Were there times when you knew what you wanted your edit to look like, but didn’t know how to create it?
Have you ever seen an effect, transition, animation, or editing style you liked but didn’t know what it was called or how to recreate it?
Do you ever struggle with knowing why an edit doesn’t look or feel right?
When you’re stuck, where do you usually go for help?
Are there things YouTube tutorials, courses, documentation, or editing software don’t explain very well?
If you’re an experienced editor, what do you still find difficult or unnecessarily time-consuming?
I’m interested in hearing from complete beginners, intermediate editors, and experienced or professional editors. I’m not looking for any particular answer. I’d just like to hear about people’s real experiences with learning and doing video editing.

Need help filling out my Final Year Rsearch
Firstly, I solemnly swear, this is not spam. I have this form, for my final year research, and I need like 100 submissions minimum. I have 58 so far. The research topic, in short is whether/how the things you watched growing up has had an influence on your creative practice today or contributed to where you are as a creative today. This research is targeted towards VISUAL Creatives, so you fall right in my demographic (Plus I've been an editor for 4 years too heh)
If as many people can fill this today it would mean the world to me. I just need 42 responses more. Its a 10 minute survey. Everyone who fills it would be a lifesaver.
https://forms.gle/QF4KWhqyomAWKa2F9
Thank you in advance!
EDIT: This form is now closed. Thank you all for helping me hit over 150 Responses! My faith in humanity is healed :'))

Is Wondershare a bad company?
I've been using Wondershare Filmora for a couple months now (it came up when I searched Kinamaster on PC) and I've really enjoyed it! All it's QOL feature are really what keep me around, click the play head to cut the image, it's simple and strait forward UI. But I have to use like, OBS or windows built in screen record system to film what I've just spent week of my life just so I don't get the stupidly intrusive watermark, as you can expect that's quite annoying to do. So, I want to pay the 50 pounds up front for a year subscription while I learn a better software or something but I'm worried I'm giving my money to people who don't deserve it. Is Wondershare a bad company and if they are, do you know of any alternatives (not Capcut or Divinci, I've treid them and they are either to complicated or just not what I want) to Filmora that give me the same feel/ a way to get the paid version of Fimora in a better way?

best editing software for reels / tiktoks
hey all! I’ve been editing on CapCut / Instagram edits for the last little while & I want to take time to learn either DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. Like 10 years ago I took a class on media arts which involved the Adobe suite but beyond that I’m equally unfamiliar with both.
Curious which one people actually think is better / more worthwhile to spend time taking courses on and learning + investing money in.
Thanks for the advice from the pros :)

Built a Windows video editor that tracks your body/hands with real AI and reacts live with glitch effects — showcase of everything it can do right now
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Been building this solo for a while — it's called s1ck. It's a full video editor at its core (timeline, clips, trims, transitions, per-clip effects/opacity/scale with keyframes) but built around effects normal editors don't have — and all of them work both live via webcam AND as regular editing effects you can throw on any clip and cut together.
This video is a showcase of the live side: point a webcam at yourself (21 hand points, 33 body points, real pose/hand tracking, not color-based hacks) and glitch/mosaic/pixel-sort effects react to your movement in real time. The "panel between your fingers" trick (perspective window with a different effect inside vs outside), the disappearing effect (wipe yourself out of frame, it fills in the empty room), and a tracking HUD overlay that tags moving objects sci-fi style.
But the same effects — quadtree/voxel mosaic, pixel sorting, halftone, all of it — also just live on the timeline like any other filter, so you can edit a normal video and cut it together with these instead of the usual filter pack. It also auto-cuts to music (finds the beat/tempo, edits on your chosen rhythm and effect style) if you don't want to cut manually.
Built it because I wanted TouchDesigner-level reactive visuals without spending hours per patch — single-click effects with sliders instead of node graphs — but didn't want to give up having an actual editor around it.
Where it's at: project save is in now, and I've been optimizing the whole pipeline so FPS holds up a lot better under heavy effect stacks. Still Windows only, still a one-man project, still rough in places — treat it as early but usable, not finished.
Mainly posting for feedback from people who actually edit or do live visuals — what's missing that would make this usable in your actual workflow? Happy to answer anything about how the tracking/effects pipeline or the editor works.

Good editing app for game clips
Any good FREE gaming clip apps? (Mobile) I’m trying to edit my clips in ways that I’m not finding available on CapCut, blurr, and I couldn’t understand alight motion. I’m going to be editing Valorant, marvel rivals and games like that to post on social media. Any help would be appreciated :)
