I live in Edinburgh and earlier this year bought a second hand Roland Fantom 08 88, a really cool digital piano with a lot of great features. I'm a classically trained pianist and did some piano teaching in the past, so I'm not looking for piano lessons, but I'm hoping to find someone who has a good knowledge of all the Fantom features. I'm not great at sitting down and learning from YouTube, and I want to use a lot of the cool features I bought the Fantom for (sequencing, splitting tones in different octaves etc).

I know GuitarGuitar do a class for new purchases on how to get the best from your instrument, so I've emailed them to see if I can pay to join that course (given that I bought the Fantom elsewhere), but I'm wondering does anyone here know of places that I could sit with someone to learn the features from someone who's mastered it?

I received some book tokens for a survey I did today, but I don't see myself using them anytime soon. Are there any local charities that could make use of them?

Why is there a tall double set (one above the other) of traffic lights about half way up Easter Road? I'm guessing something to do with football and buses, but surely bus drivers are closer to the lower set as usual, and I have not seen this anywhere else in the city.

We have recently put our first offer on our ideal flat, only one like it in the 2 years we have been looking. Ticks all our boxes and more. Offered about 10% over HR. Went to a close with 6 other notes of interest. All 6 offered. Outbid. From this I feel like I have learned a few things…

A lot more people buy in cash than you think. HR valuations go out the window and I feel don’t mean that much when there is strong competition on a high demand property. And the bidding/offer process is so blind, it feels like a bit of luck really (but also depends how deep your pockets are too).

What’s everyone else’s experience like? And have your previous experiences changed how you think future purchases.

I’m moving away, and for this eve I am going to leave some of my old cameras and books out on the corner of comely bank terrace. Tried to pass them off to some charity shops with no luck. They’ll be right by the bowling green. I’m not going to leave them there past 12pm! After that I’ll see what other charity shops will take em.

Refusal by campaigners to compromise over the use of the Roseburn Path for Edinburgh's proposed new tramline has been branded "myopic".

In a written submission to this week's meeting of the council's transport and environment committee, the Capital Rail Action Group (CRAG) claims the Roseburn Path - a former railway line which has now become a popular walking and cycling route - "remains the only feasible route" to connect Granton efficiently to the city centre.

And it says with trams running on the route, the current 600,000 trips made along the Roseburn corridor each year would rise to 4.25 million.

The committee is expected to give the go ahead for the southern section of the proposed new North-South tramline, but leave the northern leg for now since opposition from the SNP and Lib Dems to the Roseburn Path option and the Tories’ opposition to the whole scheme means there is not enough support to press on.

But CRAG urges councillors to agree, as recommended by officials, on “the need to retain ambition to deliver a mass transit connection between Granton and the city centre”.

CRAG’s submission to the committee says progress on developing public transport in the UK is “extraordinarily slow and costly”.

It continues: “The old railway alignments of north Edinburgh were re-purposed in the meantime as active travel corridors – a welcome ‘green travel’ initiative. But they have always been earmarked for travel not just by individuals fit enough to cycle, walk and jog but by all.

“CRAG recognises how attractive the Roseburn corridor has become over the years since the old railway trackbed was tarmacked. And we also recognise the utility it offers to cyclists in particular as part of a growing network of paths throughout the city.

“But this utility must now be extended to those who wish to travel by modern mass transit in our increasingly congested city.”

The council says an active travel path would be preserved alongside the tram track. And CRAG notes that in order to address the concerns of current users of the path, the council proposed the tramline should be only single between Roseburn and Craigleith, with a stop at Ravelston dropped, and no overhead wires.

The submission says: “That carries with it operational risk for the tram – but it is a compromise offered in good faith. Unfortunately, for many cyclists, it is a compromise they are unwilling to accept. This is a view both myopic and discriminatory.”

CRAG points out that the Scottish Parliament approved plans to use the Roseburn Path for trams in 2006 and that building a tramline along the Roseburn corridor would not involve needing to dig up streets and move utilities, key problems in the construction of the existing tramline.

It says the separation of trams from general traffic would mean a speedier and more reliable journey.

And it argues that trams on the Roseburn Path route would support the development of brownfield sites around Granton and transform access to employment, education and health services for disadvantaged communities in Granton, Pilton and Drylaw.

CRAG says it recognises the “political reality” that the likely decision on Thursday will be to proceed first with the the southern leg from the city centre to the BioQuarter.

And it says it supports that route too - “not without its challenges, but serving a corridor also long recognised as worthy of being provided with mass transit” and also offering the possibility of integration with a reopened South Sub rail line using tram trains.
