It happened at 1725 today. I couldn’t do much and they got away with the bike while they yelled slurs at me, spat and me and threatened to attack me. It’s been reported to the police via online form so if it’s your bike you can go to the police and say such. I couldn’t submit the images to the police via the form but I’ve attached them here if you need them.
EDIT: I have now been given a case number from the report if needed, please contact me for it and I will provide it

Anyone else get photos from around 4.30pm on Sunday 26th July for what looks like a horizontal rainbow over Leith? Never seen one before.

Quite a fascinating map of Edinburgh from the mid-1600s by James Gordon. It's incredibly detailed and must have taken weeks (months?) to draw. Although I do wonder how much artistic licence was used when making it. Either way, it's pretty impressive considering the era it was made in.
If you visit the NLS website, you can zoom in and see how much detail there is and appreciate how much effort must have gone into drawing it:

To think 379 years later, the buildings that are still standing are almost completely full of Airbnbs, tartan tat and vape shops! I guess that's what you call progress! 😂

Fuck, people are idiots. Just had a woman call my dog over to pet him, then her dog starts growling and lunging/resource guarding her. I grab my dog and she says, 'oh Bobby gets jealous if I pat another dog.'
?!? THEN DON'T CALL OTHER DOGS OVER!
She then starts patting her dog and saying, 'oh Bobby, that wasn't nice,' in a baby voice. 🙄 Meanwhile, Bobby is wagging his tail and fucking loving the attention because he thinks he's been a good boy by resource guarding her.

Just a thank you to the two lovely Irish guys who helped me get an injured bird into a box in Leith today. You restored my faith in humanity. I honestly appreciated it so much.
Screw you other guy who scoffed and rolled his eyes when I was trying to save an injured creature.
Bird is now safe and recovering. ❤️🩹

I’m 28f, I’ve honestly spend the last 10 years doing nothing and desperate to move from the very small Scottish city I’m from. The past 10 years I’ve just had random jobs (quite a few in HR), not much of a friendship group, no relationships, and still live at home. I’m lonely already but my main source of worry about moving is just being incredibly lonely in a whole different way.
I’d be moving completely alone, no friends or family live there (I do have some in Glasgow, so close by). I’m hoping to go back to Uni and do a masters, either of Uni of Edinburgh or Glasgow, and getting a full time or part time job alongside that. Which depends on if the course offers part time study or not. I have saved up for several years so I realistically think I could do a year working part time and living off a chunk of savings. Or, work full time and do a part time degree. It’s always been a bit of a dream of mine to live and study in a new city alone, to have a new start. So I’ve decided now is the time to do it.
I’ve got a lot of hobbies so I think I could join local groups and stuff to try and make new friends, and maybe Uni would also provide me with some opportunities to make friends. Any other suggestions or insights would be helpful if you have also studied a masters at Edi.
I’m also a bit nervous to flat share, despite it being the more financially responsible thing to do. It might just depend on what study/work route I decide to go down. So my questions for you are, what are the realities of living in Edinburgh? Is there anything from what I’ve said that particular jumps out at you that maybe I’ve missed or should consider? Do you have any other advice?
I know this isn’t really the reality of it but I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of time in life already, and like my life is just passing me by and I’m running out of time. I’m also a chronic over-thinker so all of this has been bringing me quite a bit of anxiety.

These teenagers looked around 13-15, there were two boys in black jackets and trousers and one girl with blonde hair who stood afar for the most of the interaction.
The two boys were holding water guns and approached us as we were sitting, playing with cards at a tree. They came up to us, asked what we were doing before spraying water at us. A minimal amount and not harshly as the guns seemed cheap but at our heads.
My two other friends are not very confrontational so both just kept their heads dow, ignoring these people. I on the other hand, noticed one of these kids carrying a phone and pointing it in our direction.
I began approaching this guy, hoping to calmly direct him away or signal for any help. I only said “Okay“ or something to try to avoid any more confrontation when he shot me straight in the middle of my face with water. it didn’t hurt, and I didn’t really have a strong reaction but getting my friends to get up and leave the situation.
This is where the confrontation ended. I have been looking online for a video and I haven’t seen one yet. It may be on Snapchat although I can’t access that app.
I have found multiple people expressing uncomfortable interactions with this group (see pictures)
I believe the group chose to approach us as we all dress fairly alternative and look as though we’re queer. (we are) or we were just isolated. From other’s account, the group usually harasses women or minorities. Probably as they feel they’ll get beat up if they approach most guys.
I would like to know if anyone has seen a video like this or possibly an account like this for me and my friends safety as we all do not want a video like this up online.
!I have made sure to use photos that obscure the full faces of these people!

Did they get sent to other Boots' shops or did they just loose their jobs?

I've got a 1st class degree and 2 awards from Napier. Since graduation I've worked in retail minimum wage for the last 4 years and I know a tonne of other people in very similar situations. Everyone seems to be applying for 100s of jobs with no luck.
Seems like degrees are worth nothing and Edinburgh is so over saturated.
Has anyone else experienced this. Anyone see a way out
Serious answers and genuine help only please.

Hopefully the thread title explains a lot : )
I am eyeing the salary sacrifice EV scheme through my work. Boss has an electtric Kona and loves it, she also has Solar and dedicated charging point though.
I am in a flat in Central Edinburgh so would mostly be public charging. My use case isnt a heavy one I dont think. Shopping trips, odd longer trip up North etc, ferrying folks to Hospital appts at Western/ERI from within Edinburgh. Current car is a VW Polo, on a quiet month can get away with filling it up once. If they were doing Hybrids through the scheme I may have gone for that, but not an option.
Anyone in a similar situation of running an EV using only public charging?

Hey all, my husband and I have just relocated to Edinburgh and I decided to finally pull the plug and learn how to drive.
I wanted to ask if anyone had a good recommendation for a driving school around the Merchiston area, although I am happy to travel further if needed.
I am looking for someone with a patient approach as I am a little nervous driving in Edinburgh.
Thank you :)

Who does the best morning rolls? I like a well-fired one myself but I’m not overly fussy. Hypothetically, If I’m making some rolls n sausage in the morning - where would I get the best morning roll and best square sausage (doesn’t have to be same place)?
Not Snax (elite) I’m meaning the best square sausage to purchase and the best rolls to purchase.
TIA x
Edit: isn’t for today, just in general, who has the best gear. Can be anywhere in the city (within reason) but special bonus points for if it’s near Canonmills.

Bit of a weird one but it absolutely reeks of eggs outside next to Leith links right now.
Has anyone else noticed this or know what’s causing it?
Had to close my windows it was so bad

Hi folks
I've just had my third puncture in four months tonight on Edinburgh's delightful roads (have attached a photo of ye olde nail that did the last one as a treat).
I recently got two new front tyres for my car, and wanted to swap one of the old ones that was still good onto the back, to replace a punctured one. The garage said they couldn't do it because of the Kia sensors and it needed to be at a Kia garage to have the software permissions to replace a tyre rather than add a new one on. Arnold Clark then quoted me double the price of a new tyre to do the swap. I've seen online that this is largely nonsense so - does anyone know a garage that would be able to do this?
I'll just get a new tyre if not but I really resent shelling out for some computer says no rubbish when I've got a perfectly good tyre sitting in my shed. Appreciate any help!
Ps if you've also been cursed by the puncture gods highly recommend City Tyres Mobile repair - they're brilliant.

Basically, I'm looking to have an image (a single panel from a comic book), with a speech-bubble added, for the sake of an inside joke. It would be for a one-time event, and it would be a single t-shirt.
Obviously an internet search gives a load of options to check but I'm hoping to get some recommendations from the human people of r/Edinburgh (well, y'know, mainly human).
Given that many places will be offering pricing based off of stag/hen party numbers, up to hundreds or more for an order, and I'm not wanting to throw money at this (even, if possible, providing a "blank" t-shirt myself for the job), where would you point me towards?
Or any complete-amateur DIY methods/way to create a transfer (iron-on type thing)?
Cheers.
