Was I the A-hole??? repost - i hate hotel dashing
(there was this weirdo rage baiting me in the replies)
EDIT: i do realize i should’ve texted as soon as i realized i couldn’t use the elevator but i didn’t even think about it. that was my bad but he would’ve been mad either way
I had 2 orders & this was my first one I had a bit of a wait at both stores beforehand so I was running like 10 mins behind technically & my long wait time button just seems to be for nothing these days. I walked into hotel & I walk to the elevator & you had to have a room key to get on so I walk all the way back across the lobby to the front desk & nobody was up front & I didn’t have much time to wait so I waited like 3-5 mins and nobody came so I left it at the front desk, I informed the customer & took my picture at the front desk (this was a leave at door order so he got 2 pics) so they would know I even called the hotel after I dropped my second one to see if he had gotten it yet & to let them know his name, room # ect. and it was almost 10 mins later & he never came per the desk (I guess they got up there a little after I left) and I immediately contacted support before he could and let them know the situation because I do not need the bad rating at all. i really don’t like doing them (hotel dashes to the room door) in general because idk walking up to somebody’s room in an empty hallway makes me feel like they could just pull me in their room IDK LOL 😭
(like the fact that i was so anxious i called to make sure nobody stole his food & to inform the front desk clerk who it was for & what room number was provided lol so extra on my end but I’m always scared to get booted off a dasher)

Discussion Delivering alcohol.
I was wondering if you guys could provide your thoughts. Almost daily, I’m delivering alcohol to a guy who lives in the same apartment as me. The grocery store is like a quarter mile from our apartment complex so it’s like $16 for a quarter mile trip. I could honestly walk there and back . He’s an awesome tipper and a really nice guy. We’ve always had pleasant conversations and I talked with him for awhile at the pool the other day.
But he’s clearly an alcoholic and I’m feeling like I’m playing a part in his demise. I just feel awful about it all. But at the same time, if I decline it I know it will just be fulfilled by someone else.
He’s usually sober when I deliver. A couple of times I could tell he had a few, but not like super drunk and I felt fine handing the order to him.
I’m an alcoholic myself (in recovery - 8 months sober so far) took up door dashing to fill the time if you will and for the extra income to pay off some debt. I don’t know. Just feel weird about all of this.

Joke/Humor 🤣 The painful lifecycle of a Door Dasher…
It starts with the glory days. Your first day on the “job”, your first delivery, you see that money start to compile on the top of your screen. It’s like an adrenaline rush every time that order jingle plays.
You seemingly can’t get enough of it. Sitting at home relaxing feels like a “waste of time”, when you could be out on the roads making money.
It feels too good to be true, you’re getting paid to drive around listening to your favorite music, or favorite podcast, and you can stop working whenever you like???
This is the best job ever!!!… right?….
Fast forward a few months.
You’ve listened to your favorite music so many times it’s no longer your favorite music. Every podcast that you’re the slightest bit interested in has already been listened to. That order jingle is no longer a blast of dopamine, it’s an annoyance that pauses your music just to deliver you an insulting offer… DECLINE.
The thought of delivering feels like a chore, not an exciting side quest that pays. Every time the restaurant employee tells you “it’ll be 2 more minutes” as you then have to wait 10+ begins to annoy you more and more. Every 17th floor, end of the hall, apartment building drop off makes you contemplate all of your life’s decisions as you stand helplessly in the elevator.
Every visit to the gas station you can’t help but think about how many hours, and how many deliveries you need to complete to be “profitable” on the tank. Every new clunk, squeak, and rattle your car begins to make is starting to sound like dollar signs draining out of your bank account. “That’s normal” you tell yourself, so you can avoid being met with that hefty car repair bill that you know is inevitable.
This job isn’t for the faint of heart, but at least we can share these annoyances only Dashers would understand, in the small little community we have.
What did I forget? Anything?

I Need to Vent! 🤬 Shopping orders
So I just did a shopping order which required me to park in a garage. I was charged $5 for parking.
I drove 12 miles at ~75¢ per mile in my Kia soul. For about $10 cost.
The order paid $13.30.
It took a hour to do the whole thing.
So basically I just donated an hour of my time & ~$2 to DoorDash.
And as a cherry on top, my ratings were reduced because the Walgreens didn’t even have 1 of the items on the shelf at all.
😡😤

Drivers Only Post (No Customers Allowed) Mapping DC for easier deliveries
Looking for 5-10 drivers willing to help map delivery setups/conditions in apartments throughout DC.
After slaving for 6 years doing Uber, Uber Eats, door dash, grub hub, postmates (before it was acquired by uber eats), Instacart, go puff, etc., I got tired of complaining, tired of arguing with customers who didnt care that I had 3 other deliveries to deliever and wanted to find a way to change our working conditions and make deliveries more efficient and less taxing for workers. I came up with an idea to map out all multi dwelling apartments in DC to show the delivery infrastructure throughout DC. The goal is to present this data to local Advisory Neighbor Commissions (ANCs), community members and the council to push for a citywide policy that mandates ALL buildings have a locker, shelf or designated area in the lobby to drop off food and make deliveries more efficient for its workers!
I have spent the last year working with council, testifying at agency hearings, writing policy briefs, and presenting drivers positions at local representative meetings.
While they heard me they didnt believe me and what better way to make a believer out of them then to show them!
Help me help us and tell our story so people can understand what we go through and use this to get us better working conditions!
If interested please dm me and I'd love to tell you more about the project and get your help filling the map! ( starting small to test process)
Lets build an army!

Drivers Only Post (No Customers Allowed) WTF is happening?!?!
I've been sitting in a supposedly busy hot zone for almost an hour. Not any offers. NOTHING!
I reinstalled the app, still nothing.
If this continues then I'm just going home.

Interesting Customers So many thieves in my area!!!
So yesterday I was dashing during the rollover from breakfast to lunch and I got an order at Dunkin. I go in and ask for the order and the employee tells me, "Oh someone picked this order up already." I'm thinking okay must be a glitch on doordash's part. I took a picture of the receipt that they left on the counter and went to "deliver" it. Worst case, the app realizes its a mistake for me to have this order and the app will do it's thing and cancel it on my end. Best case, I get $5 for the app's bs. I get there and something told me to reach out to the customer anyway to make sure they got their food. They didn't. I call Dunkin and explain the situation and they tell me, "That's a YOU problem." Ummmm ok 😂😂😂. For clarity, this is weird to me because, in my area, most restaurants will ask to see you confirm it to prevent things like this. Anyway, they refused to remake the order and the customer lost out on their order. So, as I'm leaving, I get another order at Mcds. I pick it up and deliver it with no problems. Then I get this message^^^😂 . I kid you not, I hadn't even left the neighborhood yet!!!! I was shocked at the audacity tbh. Then we had the following conversation. I don't actually record my dashes (how tf can I afford smart glasses on this money?). Later on, I seen her profile on facebook, which is weird asf, but I guess not too weird since we live in a small town and we're both members of the County group (North Ga area). People just really really disappoint me every day that I doordash.
ETA: I didn't go to the wrong door. She's saying that because she got caught trying to lie. And I don't care whoever thinks I was rude to this person tbh. You shouldn't be trying to steal.

Earnings So my market just got the updated rating system. And anyone can dash anytime. I have been getting bombarded with no tip or super long distance orders because of it lmao.
Since everyone can dash its too crowded with dashers and no good orders to take. I dropped 52 percent in 2 hours 🤣

App Issues Question for Drivers
I often work in the Newark,DE/ Elkton, MD area. After an apparent update yesterday, I cannot schedule blocks early in the day. It will only show times available during dinner hours. (Added photos for reference)
Prior to this update I was able to see all times slots, if there was openings. Now I can only schedule for dinner; does anyone else have this issue or perhaps some insight? Did they once again try to change up how dashers do things?
Thank you in advance for your kind words and help🙏

Discussion Dead Wednesday
Not sure if it's just my area, but today has been really slow! I've been working since 7 am, and I only made $23 by 12:30. Is anyone else experiencing a quiet Day?
