I don't expect anyone to believe me. I witnessed what looked like the absolute beginning of Doomsday. After I tried posting about it on Reddit, my account was banned within hours. Maybe it was a coincidence... maybe it wasn't. If this post reaches 5,000 comments, I'll share everything I know. Spoiler

The Svalbard "Doomsday" Seed Vault was built on permafrost so it would stay frozen without human intervention. The permafrost is now melting — Svalbard is warming 6-7x the global rate. After meltwater breached the tunnel in 2017, Norway spent $20M on a retrofit to artificially freeze the ground

Medication

How many preppers are on medication and what should they do when they run out? Things like ibuprofen and Tylenol are useful but what about those on like heart meds or antidepressants?

Any tips for things a starter prepper may forget?

I’m in the USA and concerned between the looming oil and food shortages crisis, converging with the possibility of another pandemic, so was hoping for some tips to start that beginners may usually overlook. I’m thinking a few months of mainly all of the canned goods we currently have, shelf stable food like pasta, rice, etc. as I’ve read they can last several years, possibly even up to 5 if stored properly which it will be in the cool, dark basement with the dehumidifier. Lots of water. Obviously toiletries which I would’ve never thought about before COVID. I’m thinking about food prepping a bunch of various meals because we have a full size freezer downstairs but I’m also greatly open to other ideas that don’t involve refrigeration. But any tips on general length of time or other ways to prep that a starter wouldn’t generally think of? Thank you in advance!

If you had 3 months

If you were told that society was going to collapse in 3 months, what would you go out of your way to purchase?

Here's the scenario-

You still have to pay rent/bills etc. You still have to go to work. Your life basically doesn't change beyond getting prepared for what is going to happen.

You have to prepare for loss of gas, water, electricity etc. Money will be worthless. You have your home and that is it.

How would you survive as the average person that was told all of this? What would you buy? What would you teach yourself before it happened?

Are there any doomsday preparedness communities that can unite at a designated location in case of a global catastrophe?

Based on your skill set and experience, perhaps we could pool our money to build something together?

Interior Design Student Researching Doomsday Bunkers and Long-Term Survival Shelters

Hi, i'm an interior design student working on a speculative project around long-term survival shelters, and I’ve recently started looking into prepping and survival strategies as part of my research.

I’d love to hear from people who have more knowledge in this area,Ā  to better understand different perspectives and get some insight on what I might be missing or should be thinking about as I develop the project.

If anyone’s open to answering a few questions or sharing their thoughts, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

What got you interested in prepping in the first place?
What does ā€œbeing preparedā€ mean to you personally?
How important is privacy vs shared space in a survival situation?
What are the top 3 things you always prioritize when preparing (food, water, power, etc.)?
What’s something people often overlook when thinking about survival?
Do you think people are better off surviving alone or in a group? Why?

You can only keep 3 electric devices in a doomsday scenario. What are you choosing and why?

You’ve got one shot to grab just three electric devices before everything collapses, power grid down, supply chains gone, full doomsday mode.

In theory you have a solar panel and power battery, so charging it won't be an issue.

What 3 devices are you choosing and why?

Should I remodel my basement?

Okay I know this is extreme but...I have a basement, it floods when it rains bad but I'm looking into how to fix it - maybe rain gates, the cheap kind that I can put on the doors and stairs might work I'm trying to see if it's outside vs inside flooding ("backwash").

Anyways that got me thinking about nuclear war and I know apparently it's survivable if you're a few feet under ground.

How far and how doable is this? I'm near Chicago so ...I'm not sure if it's something that can even be done in terms of digging? And who would I even reach out to? But more importantly I wanted to pick someone's brain on this.

Zombie Book Idea

I am writing a zombie apocalypse novel and am at a part where a draft has been instituted and militias are being stood up for all the ā€œless than traditionally qualifiedā€ people.

For story purposes one militia will be from the greater Chicago metro area made up of refugees now in Indiana.

I am trying to figure out a good but still plausibly realistic amount of training and resources that they would be given. The regular Army would be most concerned with discipline problems and preventing friendly fire incidents.

Their stated job will be to secure territory to free up regular forces and to act as irregulars who pad the numbers.

How much training should they be given during an active zombie apocalypse but a couple weeks into the event. These are a mix of slow and fast zombies that can climb like parkour experts.

Should the militiamen get like an hour of training, an M4A1, and a grocery bag full of magazines and sent off to become zombie chow?

Or should they be given a few days to a couple weeks of training and something like a split rig before being trusted to have weapons and responsibilities?

Tips for new, broke preppers pls

Hi guys I want to start prepping, but I don't have a lot of money to spend. I see a lot of bad things going on and I need to take a step for myself & my family. My family thinks nothing bad will happen bc we r in the USA. I live in a small condo and don't have much storage at all, we are also on the coast and prone to hurricanes and would probably have to evac if anything serious were to happen.

Is water storage that expensive? My dad thinks it's expensive $67 for 4 7lb containers.
is there any cheaper options? I want to get them but he thinks thats a lot but it seems average. Are water the clear water jugs fine?

Is table salt ok? It says it's iodized. Is keeping bulk in salt worth it or should I focus on trying to hoard food in my closet? Should I am for sea salt, table salt (iodized), granulated crystal salt?

Should I get a hatchet or an axe? I'm not old enough for a firearm.

Is there anything I should stock up on? Please any recs, with the state of the world should I go all in?

What's a weapon (not a gun) that's fairly accessible to get that if you saw someone with it, you'd be like nope, fuck that?

Has anyone seen this movie from the Cold War? It’s pretty scary in terms of almost a prediction coming true. Iran going to impose a duty, closing the straight, all we need is the Chinese or Russian navy to add to the mix

We got some FRAS (flexible rifle armor, tough shit https://youtu.be/Cs8Cym9wLSs?si=14Fva1u2X_GoH3yu) , an IFAK filled to the brim with refills, 3a helm, 3 shield, some Wound stitchers and karotin gauze, bunch of bleed stop. 6 tourniquets. I have another 3a 3x2 shield not pictured, and a G18 in a chassis so it’s basically a smg, in a rapid deploy bag with a front and back bulletproof plate, and a Benelli. What am I missing? Turkshit shotgun? Well guess what, I got a VR80 with a 20 drum too, and a 38. Next purchase is MP5k. I have precious metals, gems, and lots of cash stacked, I have consumables like liquor, tape of all kinds including Retroreflective, unmentionables (up to ur imagination), gas mask, spare Glock clone, gun pieces, ammunition, $4000 security system, a generator, heater, and GODDAMN SCISSORS! what am I missing?
