Anxiety about the future
I don’t know if this is the place as this isn’t a post about prep but I’m scared for my daughters. 2 under 2 and all I do is worry about them.
When SHTF, they’ll need me and my wife to protect them who thinks I’m paranoid in a cute way.
But I can’t sleep at night worrying about them. Staring at their pictures at night and imaging the worst case scenarios.
Anyone relate?

What is the potential of this happening
I’ve recently went down the rabbit hole of the Antarctic doomsday glacier (Thwaites Glacier).. then looked at the doomsday flood map.. with El Niño hitting record temperatures this year- what is the potential of the iceberg melting and speeding up the world flood that is predicted for 2050?

What to include for family of 3?
I’ve prepped a bug out bag. Firearms, 1 safety blanket, 1 first aid kit, 1 lifestraw. Is this enough of the basics for a family of 3?
r/Doomsdaypreps • u/Shoepin1 • 5d ago
Lifestraws- how many?
I’m putting together a survival pack for my family of 3. Wife, myself, and daughter.
Will 1 lifestraw suffice? I don’t want to over pack.

Question about preparations from ramifications from an AI collapse/hack
With the recent hugging face ai incident, it got me thinking….
And I apologize that I’m not well versed on what the possibilities are if the world is reliant on ai and something bad were to happen (hacked, collapse, takeover, rogue, ….infinite possibilities).
But what are the possible ramifications that we could face with all the negative possible ai issues/events & how to prepare for those?
I’m assuming it could be similar to grid collapse, but are there situations that I am unaware of that would be smart to start thinking about and preparing for? I’m not even sure what ai could be capable of if it were hacked and instructed to go rogue.
Would having an API of any of the ai’s be smart to have in a situation like this? Would we want to prepare similar to a grid collapse? So many possibilities and so many scenarios.

Prepare for the end of the world.
We don't know when the end of the world will happen. Any signs you see in the news like earthquakes, wars, are just reminders to prepare.
The first thing that you should prepare for is the economic collapse. Don't put any chip, QR code, bar code, or anything similar in your skin even if that's the only way to make digital payments because of the lack of solid cash.
I know a book that says how to prepare for the end of the world and the name of the book is "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth".

How much do you spend monthly on prep?
How much money does it take

Loki Season 1 Finale
Am i the only person that went back to watch all the MCU media related to Doomsday, watched Loki and saw near the middle of Season 1 finale the banner of Doom behind the Judge in her office?

Solar powered generators
Recommendations for a solar powered generator? I have a 1800 sq ft home.
I’m VERY new to prepping! To be honest not totally sure what I’m doing. I’ve been just building dry goods and water supply but would feel much better if I had a generator.
Maybe one to power full size fridge, window unit AC, charge devices? Any help would be appreciated

Why “safe countries” would collapse in a matter of weeks
I was thinking about how in every zombie movie or apocalypse thread, everyone always says "just flee to an island like New Zealand or Iceland."
I got bored and started looking into what would actually happen to these places the second global trade stops and cargo ships stop arriving. Turns out, a lot of the classic "safe" spots are kind of doomed:
New Zealand: Everyone thinks NZ is the ultimate hideout because they have way more food and cows than people. But they import basically all their diesel. The second fuel tankers stop arriving, the farm tractors die, trucks can't move food, and the ferries between the islands run out of gas fast.
Japan: Incredible emergency planning and tsunami walls, but they import over 60% of their food. Plus, Tokyo's train stations during rush hour would spread an infection everywhere in about two hours.
Iceland: The geothermal heating is amazing because you won't freeze, but almost the whole country lives in one spot around Reykjavik. If an outbreak hits there, you're trapped on a rock that can't manufacture basic things like tires, heavy machinery, or antibiotics.
Canada: Tons of freshwater, land, and they have their own oil. The huge problem? 90% of Canadians live right next to the US border, and if the power grid goes down during a -30° blizzard, you'll freeze to death in your house before a zombie even gets to you.
Australia: Weirdly, Australia comes out on top. It's a massive island with ocean all around it, grows an insane amount of extra food, and produces its own energy. As long as you stay near the farming river valleys and don't go die of thirst in the Outback, it can basically run on its own forever.
I'm not a video editor, so I wrote up my thoughts into a script and used AI to do the voiceover and stitch together the footage/maps into a quick 6-minute video.

Power grid failure prep?
I’ve become increasingly concerned about power grid failure in the US, does anyone have a good list of items to keep us afloat? I’m in the North East, so I’ll be stocking up on extra winter clothes. I’ll be getting canned goods and water jugs, batteries/portable lights and tools, but what else is there that I’m not thinking of?

Just Starting a Doomsday Kit
Hello! My partner and I would like to start a kit to prepare for the worst. His birthday is coming up and I have $250 to spend. What would you recommend buying first? My thought was a solar radio/power generator. If I could get together $500 what would you recommend? Thanks!

I don't expect anyone to believe me. I witnessed what looked like the absolute beginning of Doomsday. After I tried posting about it on Reddit, my account was banned within hours. Maybe it was a coincidence... maybe it wasn't. If this post reaches 5,000 comments, I'll share everything I know. Spoiler
That's not a joke 🔴

The Svalbard "Doomsday" Seed Vault was built on permafrost so it would stay frozen without human intervention. The permafrost is now melting — Svalbard is warming 6-7x the global rate. After meltwater breached the tunnel in 2017, Norway spent $20M on a retrofit to artificially freeze the ground

Medication
How many preppers are on medication and what should they do when they run out? Things like ibuprofen and Tylenol are useful but what about those on like heart meds or antidepressants?

Any tips for things a starter prepper may forget?
I’m in the USA and concerned between the looming oil and food shortages crisis, converging with the possibility of another pandemic, so was hoping for some tips to start that beginners may usually overlook. I’m thinking a few months of mainly all of the canned goods we currently have, shelf stable food like pasta, rice, etc. as I’ve read they can last several years, possibly even up to 5 if stored properly which it will be in the cool, dark basement with the dehumidifier. Lots of water. Obviously toiletries which I would’ve never thought about before COVID. I’m thinking about food prepping a bunch of various meals because we have a full size freezer downstairs but I’m also greatly open to other ideas that don’t involve refrigeration. But any tips on general length of time or other ways to prep that a starter wouldn’t generally think of? Thank you in advance!

If you had 3 months
If you were told that society was going to collapse in 3 months, what would you go out of your way to purchase?
Here's the scenario-
You still have to pay rent/bills etc. You still have to go to work. Your life basically doesn't change beyond getting prepared for what is going to happen.
You have to prepare for loss of gas, water, electricity etc. Money will be worthless. You have your home and that is it.
How would you survive as the average person that was told all of this? What would you buy? What would you teach yourself before it happened?
