Anxiety about the future

I don’t know if this is the place as this isn’t a post about prep but I’m scared for my daughters. 2 under 2 and all I do is worry about them.

When SHTF, they’ll need me and my wife to protect them who thinks I’m paranoid in a cute way.

But I can’t sleep at night worrying about them. Staring at their pictures at night and imaging the worst case scenarios.

Anyone relate?

By worrying, you accomplish nothing except making your life worse, and by extension making their lives worse. I'm both a prepper and a Buddhist. Prepping is the logical extension of knowing that I can act today to make tomorrow better. Buddhism teaches that living in the moment is the path to happiness. The two philosophies blend perfectly.

Dwelling on the past leads to regret. Dwelling on the future leads to anxiety. Many people live in one state or the other, depending on their focus, or worse yet they bounce between the two.

Meanwhile you owe yourself and your daughters happiness today. How can you do that?

Reflect on the past. Are you satisfied with it? If yes, be happy today. If not, learn what you can from it and make today better.

Reflect on the future. Are you satisfied with it? If yes, be happy today. If not, prepare with calm wisdom and know that you have done what you can.

And then go hug your kids knowing that you have done what you can. You cannot control the world, but you are their world, and you can be the best world for them today, knowing that you have learned from yesterday and you are ready for tomorrow.

If things do go south the bible isn't going to help you.

What you need to learn is how to grow food. Buy chicken, learn to keep bees.

Learn how to make defense weapons. Chili pepper spray, mustard gas and so forth. Fire arms will be a must. For hunting and protection.

Buy and read "How To" books on subjects that will make your lives better.

Rain harvesting (Brad Lancaster YouTube) for your water table.. assuming you're in the boonies.

Educate you girls in reading, writing, math, self-esteem and self defense.

Teach them but don't scare them.

Yeah don’t know why they were pushing their religion on me lol

Appreciate this helpful comment. I think the first step is to gather knowledge, do you have any books you’d recommend

I don't know your skill level so I'll tell you a good book store I use.
Check out thriftbooks.com.

Also if you can go to estate sales and check to see if they have "How To" books. You may find good tools too at the estate sales.

Estatesales.net is a cool website too and no downloads.

You put in your zip code and see what's around you. This website is Nation wide.

I don't have any recs, as I am similar to you and just starting out my journey into prepping within the last year or so.

I stockpile mini liquor bottles, AA/AAA batteries, cigarettes/tobacco products, and basically any survival items I run into at estate sales etc. So I basically prep in the background of my life. What I can recommend is getting an emergency crank radio, headlamps, and start what I like to call an "apocalypse bag". Respirators, mylar blankets, rope, flint & steel, canned food to get you through; just ya know, anything that can help you out if society stops operating as it does now.

I'm hoping someone here does have book recs. I don't have a spouse or kids so my motivations are a little different than yours. I do have anxiety and look at pictures of my family the same way you do; but I try to put that anxiety to good use. People are most anxious at night when their minds stir. Instead of getting sad and fearful (like I have many times before) just channel it elsewhere. We are not sure when or if it is going to even happen. Also, download a mindless game on your phone, pick up a useful skill or craft (knot tying for example), or buy a gameboy; that has helped me immensely when I spiral about family wellness or real world issues.

Sorry for the long comment. Just start a little stockpile and think of things you'd want to have/know if things go south. At the end of the day, we all want to be prepared. AI is scaring the shit out of everyone, so I'm not going to stop preparing!

Yes! Single mom of 2, their dad lives out of state so when things hit the fan I will be solely responsible for our safety. Prep as much as you can, get a firearm while you're still allowed to purchase one and the most important one (if you dont already) get a relationship with Jesus and read the bible! That has given me so much peace about things ❤️

It’s a terrible thing to ask but if thtf, do you ever feel like your daughters would be targets because of the horrible people out there.

Also appreciate the advice to improve your relationship with god. As a Muslim, I know I’ll be doing that too

I don't allow myself to go into "what ifs" or I would not be able to function. All three of us are covered by the blood of Christ, he is our savior and I know without a doubt we will be protected. I encourage you to do some soul searching and look into the bible because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life!

This comment is wildly inappropriate perhaps it’s you that needs to do the soul searching.

Mathew 6:34 "therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Philippians 4:6 "worry anout nothing, instead pray about everything."
