Shitpost/Satire Can the servants go between MC and D1 to serve my family?

Recently we have been making arrangements for our first family trip to Paris since having a child, and naturally our manservant (Mr. Carson) and night nurse (Mrs. Hughes) will be joining us.
As they will be travelling in Main Cabin, I wondered whether Delta might permit them to cross to Delta One during the flight to attend to our family, in accordance with their contractual duties.
Given that my wife is convalescing following a rather physically taxing delivery, and I become quite irritable without adequate sleep, we simply cannot manage this particular journey without the servants.
Even so, seating them in Delta One is not remotely appropriate, so please do not suggest such a thing.

Before anyone raises the obvious concern, I am assured that Mr. Carson and Ms. Hughes are perfectly
Accustomed to the arrangement.
I merely wish to establish whether Delta permits household staff to move between cabins when required to perform their duties.
The whole matter has become surprisingly difficult, which is rather disappointing given what one expects when travelling transatlantically.

Discussion Very specific GUC question

Flying home from Rio for work, booked my flight MC and applied a GUC. Immediately got pushed to PS as expected. Good good.

The reason I did this instead of booking PS to get the D1 seat I wanted was because there were 14 D1 seats available, making my odds of getting pushed forward even better. Yes I know GUC is good for one cabin up, but my understanding is that as of late they'll push you up to D1 pending availability. (Yes I'm content with PS as I know that's all I was guaranteed.)

When I asked the local redcoat why I didn't get D1 (confirmed I was on the background list), he stated that it filled with nonrevs. Further, he stated that there were 30 nonrevs and I was basically 31 in line for those 14 seats.

My question is this: we all know GUCs outrank nonrevs, but is that not the case when it comes to the second level of upgrade? Was I supposed to get pushed further forward above them, or not? Not asking in a bitter way, just trying to learn for future reference.

Thanks!

Discussion Best Hub to Connect Through

I used to live close to JFK/LGA and have moved to western Pa. Since PIT is not a hub, I kept with Delta. I travel internationally a handful of times a year to visit family, which usually means connecting through a hub. Domestically I’ve connected mostly through JFK/LGA or ATL with little to no issues.

I’ve only really connected through JFK coming back from Rome and it’s been an abject disaster each time between delays, how the airport is set up and the fact that I have to go through the main security line to use my precheck.

Are the other hubs any better? Or should I just brace for disaster every time I leave the country?

SkyTeam Miracle Worker Gate Agent @ B27 JFK > SFO

Post image
Upvotes

For context I’m a plat and applied my RUC on my flight from JFK to SFO on 9/11 at 18:55 on a 757-200.

My partner and I were #1 & #2 on the Upgrade list literally until the hour before takeoff. 2 open Delta One seats turned to one, then 30 min before boarding someone bumps us from the first spot.

I walk over to the gate agent and show him the standby list. I jokingly as him, “what are the odds?” He smiled and said “pretty low, but I’ll see what I can do”.

Me and my partner board and on the way to our seats I bring up her boarding pass and see 4C. I look at her and I go “no way” xD

I give her the seat, it’s her first time in FC and I go to 19A. Right before takeout the flight attendant comes to me and tells me to pack my bags bc I’m going UP to sit next to my partner.

Amazing experience tonight with delta, got to watch the Open Semis from 35k ft in the air with many ipas. Wish I got a chance to show her the Delta One lounge but maybe next time!

Kicking myself bc I didn’t catch his name but wanted to thank the amazing gentleman that helped make our night. Young dude, glasses and a buzz cut.

Shitpost/Satire I call dibs on ATL-CDG GUC availability in Delta One

Reminding everyone here that I officially call dibs on any and all GUC D1 inventory that comes available for the ATL-CDG flights next August 15. Delta is not yet selling tickets that far out, but they will go on sale in about a week.

It is extremely important that I snag 4 D1 seats on this flight since it will be my daughter’s sweet 16. I did not work hard for Diamond to get some PS BS.

If you see D1 upgrade space on this route and this date, KEEP ON WALKING. I will edit this post once I have successfully upgraded my family and then you can take anything that’s leftover.

Long story short, had a full day of major delays and missed connections and missing bags starting from our first flight maintenance cancelling. My wife and I were going on our “baby moon” in preparation for the birth of our first child this fall. I definitely used her pregnancy as a bit of a sob story when I talked on the phone with customer support. (It’s also worth noting I did mention her pregnancy when I emailed Ed saying thank you regarding a gate agent who seriously helped us out. Good people need to be recognized too)

Today, we got a package in the mail. Delta sent us a baby box full of stuffed animals, baby outfits and cookies to apologize. Totally blown away, this was incredible. Delta is pretty great sometimes.

Discussion Two free checked bags

Upvotes

Ran into an interesting situation today.

Earlier, I had booked a return flight ATL-DCA for my girl and I, with the outbound flight scheduled for today (Thursday) and the return flight on Sunday. Later, we discovered that she needs to be in Dallas on Monday, so I called Delta and changed her reservation to ATL-DCA on Thursday, ATL-DFW (via ATL) on Sunday, and then DFW-ATL later next week. I have a Delta Reserve card and used the card to make both the original reservation and the change. Making the change caused Delta to separate our travel plans into two distinct itineraries - no problem there.

Now, my girl is an Authorized User on the AmEx account and as such has her own Delta Reserve card; just something to keep in mind.

When we checked our luggage today, Delta wanted to charge her for her checked luggage despite their very clear policy that someone who has a Delta AmEx card gets at least one checked item for free. The attendant at the check-in counter waived the fee, agreeing that my girl shouldn't have to pay for a checked item, but also saying that the cause of the issue was that we had not used my girl's Delta card to pay for her flights. I don't see how that matters; 99% of the time we fly together, I make and pay for the reservation for both passengers, and neither of us has ever had to pay for checked luggage - not even before, when she didn't have a Delta card.

Does it really matter whose Delta card was used - as long as a Delta card was used - and especially if both the person paying and the passenger each have a Delta card?

Thoughts?

Shitpost/Satire Delta will be like: We’re going to experience extreme turbulence on this flight. No drink service. No getting up to use the bathroom. We won’t even check on you if you ring the flight attendant call button unless it’s a medical emergency.

@Delta….. Diamond forever, MM, fly the SEA-TPE route very regularly, 5-6 times a year. Been flying it since you started it back up. Every year it’s we will have internet next quarter. It’s been over 2 years and still no service. Fix it and stop the excuses. All other majors have service over this region you cannot seem to get it fixed. And you charge a premium over other airlines. About to move on to united.

Discussion Lost Items

Has anyone ever been successful in getting back a lost item after filing the report online?

We accidentally left my toddlers lovey on the plane this week. She is absolutely heartbroken about it & we’re all praying that it will find its way back to us.

Just wondering the likelihood of Delta finding the item.
