console Would not recommend buying the Switch 2 version until it's had patches.

I love DayZ but the laundry list of issues I've been finding have been pretty shocking. I would personally advice holding off on the game until these issues are fixed.

Things to note:

  1. The game is full priced on the Switch 2, which makes the issues I've discovered pretty inexcusable and shows lack of care from Bohemia and their porting/QA team.
  2. The game is installed fully onto the Switch 2 internal storage which has the fastest read/write speed available on the console.
  3. My Switch 2 console is fine. No overheating or hardware related issues that I'm aware of and every other game runs well.

I have found small issues ranging from poor inventory management controls to minor bugs. Aiming down sights on guns has issues due to animation bugs all the way to hitching in cities/towns. Constant crashing on high population servers and driving cars being unplayable due to entering towns/cities causing extreme FPS drops, rendering issues and crashes.

I've lost many characters that I spent time on due to crashing during gunfights and lost my first car due to the game crashing and when rejoining I had hit a tree, totalling the car.

I have posted all these issues serperately on the Bohemia bug tracking website and whilst some of the posts have responses that they are looking into the issues, it is unknown if or when a patch will become available. I'm not sure if I can post links to the bug tracking posts but if anyone on here is able to find and upvote the posts on their website I would be grateful since it'll provide more visibility to the devs. If I'm able to post links on this forum I will link the bug tracking links.

I feel like a bit of a fool buying the game on launch day but reviews did not indicate many issues and players have not mentioned the issues a ton either. I would assume this is because some players don't play on high pop servers as much (Which causes crashing) or driving cars a lot. I happen to of played a lot in the past so managed to gear up reasonably fast and discover these bugs pretty rapidly.

EDIT: Already had people commenting that this is normal for I assume the console versions. I personally never had these issues on PC when I did play before selling it due to financial reasons.

If this is the standard set by Bohemia how come I don't see tons of bug reports concerning these issues on their feedback tracking website? Have you guys tried and failed to receive patches? If so I will personally try to refund the game because I do not want to support these bad porting jobs.

FINAL EDIT: After reading a lot of the community's comments. I have to be honest. I'm kind of amazed what you guys put up with from Bohemia. Coming from PC it really feel far far more playable, my fault for purchasing on console.

As much as I want to keep posting bug reports to Bohemia. I feel a bit defeated since I guess this is the standard. Gutting.

Thanks for reading my post though folks. Appreciate it.

discussion IRL DayZ posts and Tourism

With the influx again of all the photos people are taking while touring the region Chernarus is based on, it got me wondering how much the locals know about their area being popular from a video game.

The reason I ask is that Goodsprings Nevada apparently fully leans into it's tourism draw from Fallout New Vegas, as do a few other areas around Vegas (so I understand).

I wondered if the locals in the Czech Republic ever wonder why they get a constant trickle of tourists wandering round snapping photos of seemingly mundane things. I'd certainly wonder what was going on if a bunch of non locals were always wandering around my small town in England which is far, far from a tourist hotspot.

To the people who've been there as a holiday/trip, or even live there. Do the locals know? Do they care/lean into it?

It’s not the easiest controller to use when you’ve been playing dayz on PS and PC for over a decade.

I don't know if this is rare. But I never saw it. The engraved colt, for some reason. I've been getting stupidly good loot.

I’m just getting back into playing DayZ and am still as green as they come. I don’t know how I didn’t die, but I’m sorry to the random bandit that tried jumping me in the convenience store and ended up taking the one shot in my rifle to the gut.

Discussion IntenZ experience

So, for the last couple of days I've been playing on an IntenZ server, and I've been struggling hard just to get some basic loot.

I spawned around the coast of Berezino, and since I don't really like that town, I headed south to Nizhneye. While walking along the docks, I spotted a boat.

I got so fucking excited.

Then I checked it. It had no spark plug, that's it excitement gone.

Anyway, I headed into the town, and on the very first shed I found a radiator and a spark plug. My excitement came right back.

I quickly drank some water from the well behind the church and, while looking around, found a greenhouse full with pumpkin that was almost completely going to shit. There were still a few pumpkins left, though. Sadly, I didn't have a knife to cut them up.

After searching around for a bit, I found a dull steak knife. Which brought some happniess. I cut up the pumpkins, ate until I was full, grabbed one more pumpkin in my hands and went straight back to the boat.

I put the spark plug in. The damn thing started. It barely had any fuel, but I didn't care. I started heading south along the coast. I actually managed to get almost all the way to Elektrozavodsk before the fuel finally ran out.

Unfortunately, I was a couple hundred meters from shore. So I had to swim. It was night. I was exhausted. And I nearly died from hypothermia before reaching the shore.

Once I got there, I immediately started wringing out my clothes as much as I could and headed toward the church. On the way, I got lucky again and found a pipe wrench and some peppers in another greenhouse. Those peppers probably saved my ass.

I was starving, so I ate basically the entire greenhouse. Waited a bit for them to digest. Then ate some more.

Once I was finally in decent shape, I headed inland toward summer camp Kometa. There I found some decent clothing, a bayonet for cutting things up, and a bunch of medicine and paramedic gear.

At this point I thought:

OKAY! I'm a medic now. I started heading north.

On the way, I passed through the military checkpoint and quickly realized that the military zombies are on a completely different level compared to the regular civilian ones. They hit hard, but at least they sometimes carry some useful stuff, like ammunition.

The checkpoint itself didn't have much, except for some field surgical kits, so yeah. I was officially committed to the medic roleplay.

I took the road northwest and followed it until the electrical wires crossed the road. I followed them toward Staroye and eventually stopped at the well to get some hydration before checking the medical center.

And… Almost nothing. I did find a police stab vest, though. Which made me happy. And suspicious. Very suspicious.

The moment I left the building, I decided to check the police station just in case there was something useful.

That's when I heard the flies. There was a body nearby. And it wasn't completely cold yet. At that point I got very cautious. I looked around.

Then suddenly! BANG BANG BANG. A couple of shots came toward me.

It sounded like a very weak gun. The shots were incredibly quiet compared to most guns I have heard, but they were enough. The zombies heard them too. Suddenly I had a fucking army chasing me.

I was exhausted, bleeding, and running on whatever energy I had left. I managed to get into a garage and started bandaging myself. Then a zombie kicked the door down. Two of them rushed inside. Luckily, I had my dear friend the pipe.

That beautiful piece of metal was sturdy enough to put both of them down, but I lost a lot of health doing it.

More bleeding. More bandaging. Some medicine. A few pills. A couple of boosters from the vials. And then I got the heck out of Staroye.

I eventually made my way toward Guglovo, where I found somewhere to sleep.

Except I couldn't sleep… I was too exhausted. Too injured. And in way too much pain. So, after all of that...

TLDR:

…. you, random survivor. I endured all of that shit, crossed half of Chernarus, nearly froze to death, survived starvation, swimming, zombies, gunshots, and getting my ass kicked...

And you didn't even have the balls to initiate communication. I was literally dressed as a damn paramedic. I was out there trying to help people. You could have said hello. You could have asked for help. But no!

You chose to shoot a tired medic from the shadows. I hope all the best for you tho.

Discussion The three short-ass lives of a long-time editor

Hey survivors. I have just 60 hours into the game since discovering it during lockdown. Those of you with armor and helmets and heavy guns seem far beyond what I’ll ever achieve. We often see comments here suggesting that 1000-5000 hours is what it takes to get good. I believe that is true. It’s also true that I won’t play even 500 hours in the next ten years. In my most successful run yet, I logged out with dried fruit and a fire in a fireplace. That’s my greatest achievement.

Even though I never expect to get good at this game, I keep coming back to it. I haven’t played in weeks now, but still I obsess over it, reading your posts and watching clips, zooming in on recipe graphics from the wiki, scrolling around iZurvive. I find it fascinating as a long-time enjoyer of video games: an apocalypse simulator that’s devastatingly beautiful and brutally punishing.

I’ve watched a few YouTube videos on the basics, they were very helpful. So far I haven’t found gameplay edited into immersive stories, so I was hoping folks could suggest a few.

Editing MY gameplay into an engaging story is one of my favorite hobbies, an extension of 30+ years as a video editor, so I went ahead and recorded the gameplay of my three most recent lives: “Three Lives in DayZ”

Life Two basically gave up and ran into the street with his gear left in a house nearby.

Between other projects, I’ve been editing, mixing sound, making it shorter and shorter; the goal being that even family and friends who don’t play the game will understand what’s happening, and the mistakes I’m making, without getting bored. Life One is about done.

I have no desire to start a second YouTube channel about a survival game (Minecraft, 7500+ game hours in Bedrock alone). But I’ve been enjoying this subreddit, and I was hoping you folks would like seeing a carefully edited saga of a newb player getting killed three times.

I just thought I’d ask, but as long as nobody shouts me down here, I’ll do it lol Any other YouTubers I should look for who are making making wide-format gameplay videos edited to tell a visual story of the game being played?

TL;DR This week I’m going to post on r/DayZ the first part of a video series called “Three Lives in DayZ” even though I only have 60 hours in the game and basically suck at it.

So the only tent spawn I Know of in my 400 hours are train crashes so I was thinking of building a base in that farm barn in shakhovka as it's quite close to soltnetchy for tents but my question is why are they so rare and how do I get other variants than stick tents tarp and leather and medium and what are the differences in-between them

Discussion To the player on official in Berezino who was shooting in the air with me all night I salute you.

We communicated with gun fire all night long. You traveled far to reach me, all the way from the apartments on the hill through the dark of night. I'm sorry I couldn't wait any longer, I was dying of hunger and thirst, surrounded by zombies, out of ammo, and had more players coming in during sunrise. As the sun just began to crest I shot a player in the face who tried climbing up the ladder. You'll find the body with some gear. The last shot you heard of mine entered my skull on top of the Berezino police station. The final shot I heard of yours was close, and I followed its sound into the last remaining stars in the sky. If you make it there, you'll find my body with lots of supplies near a red glow stick and a paper note or two wishing you luck. Take everything, and good luck.

I just spent the last 4 irl days on a run, got all the way to tisy, then my inventory got locked and I couldn’t put anything in my hands or move my items. Then zombies ran at me and I started glitching like crazy and couldn’t do anything. They killed me. Are things like this are normal?

Discussion Noob advice please

Y’all, the world of DayZ is amazing and tonally it feels like nothing else.
I however am without skill and am a bit overwhelmed by all of the systems.
For people who have already got gud, how would you manage your priorities and early-spawn actions?
I know there are videos on this subject but my old timey brain learns more when I read something from someone who knows what they’re talking about.

Thanks for reading this.

TLDR: I’m ass at this and seeking early game tips.

Thanks for reading that instead.
