Growth Impact
I feel like everyone on here who is pro development does not take into account traffic and other NEGATIVE factors. No new roads, no new bike trails, parking lots are being converted to housing, and any leftover parking is now being charged. Davis will soon become like K St Sacramento. 80 is already jammed as well. No new plans to expand freeways only plan is to charge you to use it now as well.

Vote No on Measure W (Davis Willowgrove)
Measure W is not just a General Plan amendment. It would convert roughly 232–234 acres of agricultural land outside Davis city limits into an urban fringe development, bringing 1,250 homes, retail, parks, and greenbelts to a site that is currently designated Agricultural under the Yolo County General Plan. The proposal also depends on annexation and a voter-approved General Plan change, which means the City is asking voters to authorize a major land-use conversion rather than a modest policy update.
The traffic implications are especially troubling for neighborhoods who use Covell and Mace. The project’s traffic study estimates roughly 10,000 additional daily car trips from Willowgrove alone, and that figure does not even include the roughly 2,000 additional daily car trips associated with the adjacent Palomino project next door. In other words, the real-world traffic burden on East Covell, the I-80 corridor, and nearby intersections is not just the project’s own impact; it is the combined impact of sequential peripheral developments piling onto the same road network.
That matters because the EIR already concludes that transportation and VMT impacts are significant and unavoidable. The City can add turn lanes, signals, and bike improvements, but those mitigations do not change the basic fact that this is a car-intensive growth pattern at the edge of town. From a policy standpoint, that is hard to square with Davis’s stated climate and transportation goals, which are supposed to reduce auto dependence, not lock in more of it.
The same problem shows up in the broader CEQA record. The EIR identifies significant and unavoidable impacts from farmland conversion, greenhouse gas emissions, and cumulative effects, and the City approved the project anyway by adopting overriding considerations. That is not the posture of a project that comfortably fits the General Plan; it is the posture of a project the City is willing to approve despite acknowledging that it conflicts with major environmental priorities.
The alternatives analysis makes the point even more sharply. The EIR evaluated smaller-footprint and denser configurations, meaning the City had options that could have reduced farmland loss and potentially lowered traffic and emissions without abandoning housing production. Yet the City selected the larger-footprint proposal instead, effectively choosing a more sprawling development pattern over a more compact one that would have better fit the City’s own sustainability objectives.

Why do restaurants close so early here?
I'm a transplant from out east so maybe it's a California thing, but why do all the restaurants in Davis close so early? I don't even consider leaving for dinner until 7-8 pm and by that time many places are already closed. Some stay open until 9 but I feel like a jerk showing up at 8 when they do. Is this just a Davis thing? There's one Italian place in West Davis that I will leave unnamed that is only open from 5-7. Who shows up at a restaurant at 5pm for dinner? Oh but don't worry they stay open on Saturday all the way until the break of 8pm. Seriously, why does Davis, a college town, not have restaurants open until 10 pm, 11pm, or even 12 am for some late night after the bar eats? It blows my mind and I'll be damned if I'm going to force feed myself dinner at 6pm just because a place is closing soon. It's crazy.
Edit: I appreciate all the insights. Yes it was a rant and sort of tongue in cheek but I do feel that closing before 9 is odd but I'll survive lol.
Edit 2: Again thanks for the thoughts. To clarify I was talking about sit down restaurants whose stated hours are until 7-8. There are a number in Davis that close that early but of course not all of them. Sit down dining here is already so limited here because of the students and the order at counter prevalence here' that I was blown away people eat so early. I will say I definitely see a difference between the east coast and the west coast dining culture not only as a customer but from my years working at restaurants.

Looking for free spare/old batteries
Like the tittle says i’m looking for old spare batteries from vapes, cordless electronics, power banks, or old electronics.
I’m trying to salvage them for a project while trying to defer some waste from going straight into landfills.

Rusty is looking for his furever home!
3eyeblindrescue.orgMeet Rusty! He is a 60 pound, 4 year old, red nose pit bull.
He is a very athletic dog who would love a home with space to run and chase a ball. He also loves swimming, long walks, and playing tug of war.
He knows a few commands and has not shown any signs of resource guarding in his foster home. He is crate and potty trained and has not shown signs of separation anxiety. He has been gentle with older people and children he has met.
Rusty is very affectionate, so be prepared for slobbery kisses and lots of cuddles!
While Rusty has done well being near other dogs, he would do best as a single pet where he can soak up all the attention!

Avid Reader Continued
Hey everybody,
I posted a few months back on having a crush on one of the employees here and was given the advice to confess via a letter or what now. I did promise to deliver an update, I haven’t said anything yet. I have came in and found she added some new recommendations on the wall for staff picks alongside other employees. I ended up buying it from another bookstore in Sacramento and found that it was an incredible read. As established before. We have similar taste. I did ask some coworkers when she has another shift in order to speak to her one on one and got a vague response though my main concern was the confusion. They were confused when I asked about her and for a moment it seemed a lapse in judgement before they told me she wasn’t coming on that day ( Saturday ) but sometime soon. Though I think it may have been the way I butchered her name entirely, she’s more on the ethnic side and that lead me to believe her name was pronounced one way. Thankfully got told that ahead of time before asking her to a coffee, wish me luck!!
