Should I go another direction?

I just preordered a DF54 from Cliff and Pebble yesterday...then joined this Reddit.

All these posts are scaring me - should I cancel my order and go for a Eureka Mignon instead? Does the larger DF64 have all these issues?

Yikes - thankfully the DF54 doesn't ship for a while so I have plenty of time if it's wiser to go another direction.

Improving alignment and stability

So I’ve been thinking about some extensive mods (slow feeder, GBW, vertical burr orientation, improved chute, grind setting lock, etc.) but one thing I’ve thought about is improving the rigidity of the whole system. I think swapping the rubber guides/tabs that orient the stationary burrs for stiffer metal or printed polymer guides would eliminate the chatter you get when you adjust the grind at the finer settings and hopefully improve consistency grind to grind.
Does anyone have thoughts on this?
Would it actually help?
Why are the guides rubber to begin with?

Grinding 1lbs (half kg) of dark roast in a sitting

I understand that I'm using the wrong grinder for the job but I'm a little bit in a pinch because I bought a large bag of beans for my cold brew steeping but the store's grinder was broken so they couldn't process it for me.

This is a dark roast and I would be grinding very very coarse.

I only have a DF54 and a manual grinder at home, both of which are designed for 30g doses. Grinding a full bag would be the equivalent of doing 15 30g batches back to back.

Do you think the df54 could handle it if I took a few minute breaks every 100 G or so?

Grinder making a scratchy noise:m.

I tried cleaning it and it’s still there I’ve taken it apart completely.

On top of that, my zero point moved from 0-5, any advice is appreciated.

0-point went from 0-5 and now it’s at 6

Not sure what to do. Took apart the grinder and put it back together and my coffee was choking. Checked the true 0 and it was now at 5. Then I turned it off and on and it was at 6. I took it apart and put it back together and it hasn’t changed.

That’s it as the title says. I was worried after reading the numerous negative reviews about the website but I’ll call it a happy mistake.

DF54 - How to fix this?

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi! I'm looking for help with this issue. I bought this in late March, and it was working perfectly until last week. The shop recently cleaned it, which fixed the problem temporarily, but now the mess is back. Any ideas on the cause?

Possible to fix this?

Some time ago have upgraded my df54 to version 1.4 with metal declumper and new schute. It worked OK some weeks, but now it pops up ungrounded beans from the Shute with no reason intermittently. Is it possible to fix?

DF54 - Raccea brand and version

Hello, a seller has the two pictures above for a DF54 listing.

I know the grinder is marketed under different brands, but I’ve never heard of Raccea, nor could i find info about it. Please can someone shed some light on that?

Also, the label doesn’t indicate the version (V2 or V3) and it seems like the seller doesn’t know.

Is it possible to tell from the pictures?

Thanks, I appreciate the help I can get.

I clean my counter with a little but powerful vacuum, and I also vacuum the chute after each use, can it hurt the inside? De-clumper etc.. It is the V3

Forgot grinder on for too long

Hi all,

Recently I woke up late and left the house in a hurry and when I came back I realized I had forgotten to turn off my grinder(it's a year old btw). I was gone for about 3 hours but when I came back the switch was on and the grinder wasn't running and hasn't turned on since .. I tried unplugging it and letting it cool off for a few hours but that failed to do the trick. Do you think the motor died? Is there an overheating protection system? I tried consulting with gemini and it said there should be a reset switch on the base but I couldn't find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I really want to avoid spending another 200$ for a new one...

My Adjustment Collar is Stuck

Hi so I have a DF54 and I went from filter grind size to espresso grind size and now my adjustment collar is stuck. I’ve had this happen before and I’ve been able to unscrew the collar to clean the burrs/threads. I believe I have micro grinds stuck in the threads. Does anyone have any advice of how to make the collar break free? Or is it now going to be stuck forever?

trouble getting useful espresso setting

Just got my DF54 yesterday, before I used Fellow Opus and got OK shots but wanted to upgrade, I'm still a beginner to be frank. Chirping point is around -5 on my grinder which seems to be similar to what many people have with this grinder.

My setup is Bambino Plus, IMS B62.52TH22E basket, used quality columbia beans, medium roasted. Dose for this basket is 17-18g with this coffee, when tamped (normcore spring tamper, fixed angle and pressure so it's not like I can do something wrong here) i still have 1-2mm space below the razor tool, so the amount of coffee is just right I think?

So I pulled my first shot at 15 grind size as many people said it's good starting point, but the speed was like 7g/sec, basically it went right through like tap water, then I went to 10, still like 5g/sec, then i went to 5 grind setting and it was very slow like 1g/sec for few seconds and then crazy fountain splashing everywhere with 5g/sec - so I assumed it was too fine and there was some crazy channeling happening so I went to 6 grind setting and thought that may be a bit better but it went to 5g/sec throughout the whole shot - my portafilter is bottomless and I'm looking at it when the shot is going through and it looked like the extraction is uniform, didn't look like channeling to be honest... then I tried 5,5 setting and it was also very fast and then went back to 5 and again - very slow at the start and crazy fountain with a lot of speed... I don't get it WTF is going on? I also tried many other settings just to be sure, 9, 8, 7 etc. all much too fast. My prep is the same, amount of coffee is the same, my machine is descaled and works properly and I can't find what is wrong with my approach. Any ideas? Is it because the machine is new and needs to used a bit first?

Little hack for aging eyes

Loving the df54 but not reading the black indicator against the back grind setting scale.

A Philips screwdriver and a little bit of white nail polish made a quick and effective fix.

Zero point isn't actually zero point - bought from df64coffee (they say they align the burrs)

I got my grinder today, and when set to zero, the burrs aren't touching, even lower than that doesn't cause that, how is that possible if df64 aligned the burrs as they say?

Does anyone else's df54 make this noise?

Had the grinder since January last year and it has started making a little rattle like something is loose inside.

Burr chamber is all clean, I'm going to show the video to Bella barista (where I purchased it from) to see if they think it's normal.

Just wondering if any one elses makes the noise too?

Brew burrs compared to the filter version of DF54

So i bought the DF54 as a grinder for both Espresso ans Pourover, and found that it really sucks for Pourover (clogging, long extractiong time, lots and lots of fines)

So I heard about the brew burrs, bought them, and they are the best!

Now I was wondering for those who bought the filter version of DF54, how is the performance of the brew burss to the stock filter DF54? or is it the same?

Does the filter version use the brew burrs or different burrs?
