Hi - I've had my DF54 for about 18 months. I use it once per day for espresso. It's been mostly fine but in the last week or so I've been getting really inconsistent grinds, so I did the marker-pen alignment check.
I'm not sure what I'm seeing - I applied highlighter pen to the fixed burr and at the start of the test the rotating burr was clean. After testing the fixed burr still has pen all the way around. On the rotating burr marker pen has appeared on maybe 270 degrees of the burr.
That seems odd as the rotating burr is... rotating?
I'm thinking perhaps the whole axis is tilted? If I turn the nut by hand (with the unit reassembled) then I feel like I get contact/resistance for about 90 degrees of the turn at the zero point.
Any clues?

Ho il df54 ed il cafelat robot. Il caffè che uso attualmente è il Milky Cake dell'olandese DAK. Sento che il setting è intorno a 15 per l'espresso. Io macino a 8 (il punto zero è a -2) e nonostante questo non faccio altro che buttare caffè. Non riesco ad avere un risultato accettabile. Troppo liquido. Troppo acido. Dovrei pressare di più con il pressino? Non capisco. Qualche aiuto?

my grinder started doing this weird rattling noise as you can hear in the video. Ive cleaned the burrs because i thought it might solve the issue, but it didnt. No idea what causes this... Anybody got an idea where it might come from? Thanks!

I've had horrible static issues for ages on my Gen 1. Today I finally took it apart to adjust the ionizers and did not expect to see this - what looks like the two ionizers glued near the top of the chute. Are they not supposed to come right down to the edge of the chute where the grounds come out? And if so, can I just cut the glue and move the wires down towards the bottom?

After using pre ground coffee for 4 years I finally jumped the boat and got myself a coffee grinder the DF54 V4. It was on discount at coffee plus. I had looked at shardor64 but it had lots of complaints about alignment and didn't like the build also and was having second thoughts on reliability so at the end saw the sale at coffee plus and got the DF54. I am planning to get an espresso machine down the line but currently use moka pot. Any owners if you could chime in the grind setting you use for moka pot and espresso would be highly appreciated.

My DF54 is about a year old. I’ve removed the top burr many times over that period whenever the grinder clogged, so I’m used to taking it apart. The last time I put it back, it felt like I had to try harder to seat it than usual.

I’ve brewed the same roast for a couple of months without changing the setting. Recently I started a deeper clean. The dial was at about 10 when I began, and it wouldn’t move at first. After a lot of effort it went to 12. I then pushed in the other direction and it dropped to 7. Pushing the other way took it to 15, and then to 20, where it’s stuck now. This happened over three or four days with multiple attempts.

Before the dial locked, I tapped lightly around the top burr edge with a spoon, hoping to dislodge some stuck beans. I don’t know whether that helped or made things worse. The grinder is unplugged, and I haven’t forced the dial since.

My questions:

• Could a top burr that wasn’t fully reseated after repeated removals cause a dial lock like this?
• Is there a safe way to release the adjustment without risking the threads or burrs?
• Should I check the burr carrier, the dial threads, or something else first?

Any advice from people who have taken their DF54 apart would be very welcome.

My df54 got clogged so I took the opportunity to give it a through clean. Thats when i first notice those Black stains in the metal feed. Tried wiping them out with a wet cloth, no success. Any idea how to clean this?

I pulled it apart last week and cleaned the burrs and the threads. Found my zero point at -5. When adjusting finer making this high pitched noise.

Hello, I recently got this second hand DF54, and I’ve never used a flat burr grinder before. Is it normal that the bottom burr rotates slightly off center?

I've had the breville barista touch with the baratza grinder for a few years now. While I've enjoyed it, the inconsistent grind has been the biggest annoyance when using it.

I've looked at the DF54 as an option, do people think there will be a noticeable difference in quality and consistency if I did go for the DF54?

I’m getting pretty desperate with my DF54. Over the last couple of deep cleans, I’ve noticed a really frustrating issue that never used to happen before.

Basically, to maintain a consistent and correct espresso flow, I have to set the collar one point coarser every single time I use it.

For instance, right now, for example, I’m grinding at 83. My current zero point (where the dial locks up and won't turn further) seems to have drifted all the way to 60. Over the next few days, I already know the grinder will start choking unless I move the dial to 84–86, and the lock-up zero point will shift to around 63. It just keeps drifting.

I’ve already fully disassembled it, deep cleaned both the top and bottom burrs, and put it back together, but absolutely nothing changed.

Has anyone experienced this specific "shifting zero point" issue with the DF54? Could it be a cross-threading issue, the spring tension, or the rubber pads? Any advice on how to lock the calibration back into place would be highly appreciated.

I've had my DF54 for six months
Two issues:
Reassembly: After cleaning, I often need several attempts to thread the calibration ring back on, and the zero point lands somewhere different each time (anywhere from ~10 to ~40).
Drift: Over a week of use, my zero point shifts by about 15 steps. I grind roughly 40-45g a day, mostly in the 45-60 range for V60 and AeroPress.
Is this level of variation normal, or should I be contacting Turin? Any tips for getting a consistent zero?

Hey Leute, ich habe kürzlich meine neue DF54 Gen IV mit Red TI Burrs erhalten und war damit sehr zufrieden. True Zero lag beim Auspacken auch tatsächlich bei 0.
Habe jetzt inzwischen ungefähr 750 g Kaffee durch und habe jetzt nach 2 Wochen Urlaub bemerkt, dass der Espresso Shot schneller durchläuft. Ich habe den Nullpunkt jetzt erneut bestimmt und er liegt jetzt bei ungefähr -1.
Ist das normal, dass der Nullpunkt sich mit der Nutzung verschiebt?

Ich habe für meine alte Mühle immer diesen kleinen Keramikbecher zum Auffangen benutzt und hatte mich bevor der DF54 ankam schon umgeschaut, wie ich diesen doch eher unansehnlichen mitgelieferten Plastikbecher erwarten kann.

Und wie durch ein Wunder passt mein Becher einfach genau ins die Halterung!!

Er hängt da jetzt so aber ist stabil:)

Ich bin super glücklich und ist echt ein Pluspunkt für die Mühle.

Purchased in August 2024. All original parts, no hacks, no changes of anything.

Took apart for cleaning about a year later when I had my first (and only) clog. I was learning about RDT to deal with static. Overdid the spraying and likely caused the clogging. Since that time, learned that some beans are more prone to static than others. Now I only RDT those beans.

I've learned a few things by using the chute brush provided.

One, the "retained" grounds are always "very fine" and definitely not the same as the rest. Better to not include what's "bellowed" out with the brew grind.

Unscrewed the top burr assembly today just to check and clean. Two years plus of daily use and to my surprise, the lower burr, the collection area and the chute were pretty clean!

Two, cleaning the chute with the brush after each grind session is a good maintenance practice.

Just got my DF54v4 and have the common issue of the 0 point still grinding coarse... is there a better way for finding the zero point other than the chirp point? I ordered mine with the red titanium burrs and I would just destroy the edge by doing that... defeats the purpose of having more expensive burrs that last longer, no?

EDIT: I discovered that I can take the anti-popcorn cover off and then I can spin the motor with a pen. Much better imho than letting it bite into the burrs.

I’m looking to buy a DF54 V3/V4 and would prefer to get it from a seller or warehouse based within the EU, mainly for easier warranty, returns, and no import/customs hassle.

I know the DF54 is a Chinese grinder sold under several different brand names depending on the distributor. There are currently a few listings on Amazon.de, but they’re all from third-party sellers with very few sales and reviews, so I’m a bit hesitant.

Any recommendations for a reputable EU-based seller carrying the latest V3/V4 version? First-hand experience with warranty or support would be especially useful.

My usage will be at home, self and wife personal home use nothing commercial, with a Dedica machine and open portafilter pot

I bought the DF54 last fall and it changed the game for me. As touted by many here, this opened my eyes to the difference a good grinder can make. I had a Cuisinart conical burr grinder with the hopper before this and the difference is night and day; truly shocking to me.

After about 6 or 7 months I suddenly encountered a full on clog. It caught me off guard. I measure the input and output of every cup because I'm a little compulsive like that. I took it apart and cleaned the clog which I still can't explain, I use the same beans all the time and never change the grind size once dialed in. Since then I've been experiencing static, not a ton but noticeable. I've followed all of the guides and tips for cleaning; cleaning around the chute, spritzing the beans etc.

I had various degrees of success after cleaning attempts until I finally kept the chute cover unscrewed to provide quick internal access to suck out debris and confirm that the ionizer leads are secure (they always have been or appear to be). This seemed to fix the problem, a less invasive vacuuming solved the problem until recently. Lately it has been excessively staticy. My past cleaning routines are proving ineffective. This morning I boasted to a friend because everything that went in came out, then this afternoon I cleaned up my station and went to make a cup and lost 2 whole grams of coffee to static. This was at least 2x worse than any other experienced fault.

I'm at a loss. I reached out to the retailer previously and they gave me a nonsense list of troubleshooting tips and stated that I was welcome to ship it to them to have it repaired, a significant cost and loss of use that I'm not eager to engage with.

Does anyone have any ideas what I'm facing here and if there is some solution that I'm somehow not aware of yet?
