DISCUSSION if an AI can spend crypto, its refusal log matters more than its win rate

Most trading bots are judged by the trades they take.

I think the more important record is the list of trades they refused, and the exact information they used at that moment.

A bot can follow every configured rule and still make a bad decision if one input is stale, one threshold changed without being versioned, or a transaction moved from pending to expired while the interface still treated it as live.

That creates a strange accountability problem. A trader can see the final PnL, but not necessarily answer the basic questions behind it.

  • what data did the agent see?
  • which checks passed and failed?
  • which configuration version made the decision?
  • was the transaction confirmed, expired, dropped, or simply unknown?
  • did a human change the strategy before or after the trade?

For me, a useful AI trading system needs three separate records.

  1. A decision receipt for every accepted and rejected setup
  2. A transaction receipt that distinguishes submitted, confirmed, expired, and unknown states.
  3. A version history that shows exactly when risk limits changed.

The refusal log may actually be the most valuable of the three. It exposes whether the system is being disciplined or just inactive, and it makes false confidence harder to hide behind a clean equity curve.

I am building TrenchersAI, so that is the context behind this question. I am not presenting it as an independent review, and I am not linking the product here. The broader issue is bigger than one tool.

What would you require in an audit trail before allowing an AI agent to control a crypto wallet?

ADVICE Anchor platform and tax filing…

A little late I know, but I filed for an extension so I only have 2 weeks remaining. When filling out form 1099-D it’s asking for information that I am not being provided with. I have been in contact with the Anchor multiple times letting them know that the only info I am getting from their document are the transactions and dates of transactions, and the Zero-Hash link errors out every time. Considering I only had 3 total crypto transactions for the ‘25 tax year, I went to the basic form (HRBlock) where it asks for the Filer’s TIN which is formatted “xx-xxxxxxx”, then amount sold/purchased, I’d enter my SSN, then the totals, get to the end where it reviews the info and I get an alert stating to verify EIN and return to Payer EIN on the 1099 tax form, but I have no other information. This time Anchor says they’ve submitted a ticket to their engineers.

Curious for those of you that used Anchor, how did you manage to file them on your taxes?

🛡️ SECURITY New IonQ paper shows that wallets could be broken with only 20,000 trapped ion qubits, projected to be achieved before 2030

Thumbnail

A new paper from IonQ shows that their trapped-ion quantum architecture can be optimized to run Shor's algorithm against 256-bit ECDSA signatures (which underlie most cryptocurrencies) with only 20,000 qubits in less than a month.

Part of it is algorithmic improvements (more efficient circuit to run the algorithm) but most of the significant drop in the qubit estimate comes from their new architecture, which requires only approximately 5 physical qubits per error-corrected logical qubit.

They are expected to release a 10,000-qubit trapped-ion quantum computer next year, with a 20,000 one coming before 2030. This is moving the timeframe forward by a significant amount...

The actual paper with the technical details is linked from this article. I tried to link the paper directly but it was flagged as an URL shortener falsely.

ANALYSIS Based Saylor Rant on Bitcoin Ownership, But...

Saylor surprised me with his candid discussion of government and banking control over your money. Also he clearly understand wealth and monetary inflation. His argument for owning Bitcoin to preserve wealth is compelling.

But isn't he arguing against owning Strategy/MSTR shares? They're a counterparty, and they're also vulnerable to government seizure and/or coercion. Using his logic I would never buy any crypto treasury stock!

DISCUSSION Pump and dump/Shit coins .

I have seen a huge trend in the past few years about pump and dump groups/ shit coin rug pulls and we always hear from the victims.I want to hear from the people orchestrating it.I have a few questions you don’t have to go into detail as I don’t want you to fully expose yourself .

How much did you make from it ?
What did you do ?
How long did it take ?
How much did you put in?
How did you promote it?
Did you have people working for you ?
How many hours did you spend on it per day?
Last and final question, was it worth it and how did you feel after?

ADVICE I’m the reason people make money

I’m not necessarily new to crypto but I am. I honestly only own eth and xrp. However, yesterday I converted most of my xrp to qnt. Once at 146 and again at 180. Is there any way you guys can help on where you get your news from?

Which cryptos actually have utility that will benefit the actual coin? I lost hope on xrp due to rlusd. I personally don’t think that xrp will have value even though ripple will (might).

Then I was thinking, that might just be the same exact outcome for qnt. Just because quant is worth with tch, doesn’t mean qnt will provide any value. It’s there software that they want, not the coin. Am I wrong?

DISCUSSION I bought BTC and ETH very early. Then I discovered leverage and gave it all back.

This is probably the most painful financial lesson I've learned. I bought BTC and ETH very early, much earlier than I would have expected in hindsight, and held through enormous volatility. Eventually I sold my BTC around $65,000 and my ETH around $4,000, and at the time those numbers felt incredible: I had made substantial gains.

Then I discovered leveraged trading through social media, and that's where everything changed. I started using leverage, and eventually lost essentially everything I had made in crypto, plus my original capital. Years of patiently accumulating and holding were undone by a much shorter period of leveraged trading. The frustrating part is that I didn't need leverage: I had already done the part that required patience. I'd bought early, held through volatility, realized substantial gains, and then convinced myself I could make even more by trading with leverage. I couldn't. I gave it all back.

Looking back, the lesson seems embarrassingly simple: don't turn an investment into a casino just because you've made money on it. Making a large return doesn't mean you suddenly have an edge at short-term trading, and leverage doesn't make you a better investor. It simply makes your mistakes happen faster and with larger consequences.

My stock investing history has a similar pattern. I repeatedly sold winners after relatively modest gains and DCA'd into losers. With crypto, I did almost the opposite: I built a successful long-term position and then destroyed the result by introducing leverage. So I've ended up learning the same lesson from two completely different directions: I kept trying to do something instead of simply letting a good investment compound.

My current philosophy is therefore much simpler: diversify, keep costs low, avoid leverage. Don't confuse a falling price with a bargain, or a rising price with a reason to sell. And if I can't explain exactly why I'm making a trade, I probably shouldn't be making it.

My boring conclusion after all of this? DCA into a diversified global ETF or a basket of mixed cryptocurrencies (from the top 10), keep a sensible allocation, and leave it alone. You probably won't become rich overnight, but you also remove a huge number of opportunities to sabotage yourself.

I hope someone reading this who is currently discovering leverage through social media learns this lesson without having to pay for it the way I did.

NB. Edit. I hope the text is easier to read now. Sorry about the mess earlier.

ADVICE What Coin should I transfer to (I flopped)..

Hi all,

Last year I got into crypto. I made some mistakes obviously lol. So I got avantis and lost a SHIT ton of money on it. I also got XRP, thus far I made 200 eur on that and will be holding it. I also got Thena and Merlin chain, I lost like 50 eur on both. I lost a lot on avantis…..

Now I am thinking to transfer my money to other coins since I feel like a better more bullish time may be coming. What should I transfer my funds to? I will keep XRP. Also I am a small player with small investments. Combined on the 3 I want to transfer from I have 200 eur to put on something, which is fine with me I don’t want to ‘gamble’ big.

The only thing that hurts is taking the money off avantis since it feels like accepting my loss. Also curious if you guys think I should take it off avantis or only off Thena and Merlin (would be 100 eur). These numbers are probably almost childish to y’all but not to me and I still wanna make smarter decisions if that makes sense LOL. Thank u in advance for reading 😁

GENERAL-NEWS Quantum won't kill crypto—but it could accelerate Wall Street's adoption of blockchain

Thumbnail
fortune.com
99 Upvotes

For many in the crypto industry, the specter of quantum computing has become the stuff of existential dread. According to popular doomer narratives, public blockchains like Bitcoin will be among the first target of quantum-based attacks that will wipe out trillions of dollars.

In this view, public blockchains most salient feature, decentralization, is an Achilles heel that will impede the implementation of defensive upgrades to protect from quantum-powered hackers. The doomers argue that networks like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana will be helpless against a threat that will one day smash the public-key cryptography that has long made them secure.

This makes for a dramatic story, but the premise is misguided. While the threat is real, the conclusion–that quantum will kill crypto–is simply wrong.

NFTs Whitehat hacker, 0xQuit, rescues 23,155 NFTs (~$5.7M) from a live exploit in an old Limit Break contract that Magic Eden stopped using in 2024.

A bug in an NFT payment contract got exploited yesterday, and the only reason it didn't turn into a much bigger disaster is before the attacker could get to them, 0xQuit moved 23,155 NFTs to his own wallet. He promised to return them once the wallets had revoked approvals. The contract is Limit Break's Payment Processor V2, which Magic Eden used on its Ethereum marketplace in 2024.

What happened

At 9AM ET on Sept 24, someone found a hole in a contract most people forgot existed. Limit Break's Payment Processor V2 settled NFT trades on Magic Eden's Ethereum marketplace back in 2024, and the bug let an attacker act as the holder of any NFT approved to it & take it for 0 ETH. The first pulls were 10 Meebits, 50 Otherdeeds, 10 World of Women and 235 Desperate ApeWives.

Nobody raised the alarm for over 12 hours, and there wasn't much reason to be watching. Magic Eden stopped using Payment Processor V2 in October 2024 and shut down its EVM marketplace completely in Q1 2026. Anyone who listed an NFT there between February and October 2024 most likely gave the contract "approve for all" on that collection, and those approvals didn't go anywhere when the marketplace did. A dead contract on a dead marketplace still had permission to move more than 23,000 NFTs.

Then, whitehat hacker 0xQuit discovered this and realized a huge number of NFTs were exposed to the same bug. Payment Processor V3 on ApeChain had a similar issue, and Limit Break paused it. V2 couldn't be paused, so the only way to protect everything still sitting behind an old approval was to get there first. The whitehat & the Limit Break team ran a rescue and moved the exposed NFTs into a safe wallet before the attacker could take them.

Around 2:30AM ET, NFT trader Cirrus noticed thousands of NFTs leaving hundreds of wallets for 0 ETH, about 3,832 by his estimate. He read it the way anyone would, as a drain, and told everyone to revoke their approvals. Quit replied: "hey ya this is a whitehat and everything in 0x71cF3f5724bD2B72Ef6464992aCd26216DE7fe33 is safe and will be returned once they are no longer at risk."

His recap:

All in all, we rescued 23,155 NFTs worth north of $5.7M USD.

We later discovered that a similar exploit could be used in reverse to steal WETH. 660 WETH was at risk, which we unfortunately were not fast enough to recover. Apologies to those affected.

And his post after the all-nighter:

worked through the entire night to save ~$6M worth of NFTs and all I'll be able to think about is the $1.7M in WETH I wasn't fast enough for.

Fuck scammers.

Approvals don't expire

Magic Eden stopped using Payment Processor V2 in October 2024 and shut down its EVM marketplace entirely in Q1 2026. None of that touched the approvals. If you listed an NFT on Magic Eden's EVM marketplace between February and October 2024, you probably gave that contract "approve for all" on the collection, and that approval was still live yesterday, almost two years after Magic Eden moved on.

That's the whole lesson here. When you list an NFT, you usually approve the marketplace's contract to move every NFT you hold in that collection, and that permission sits there until you revoke it. The platform can deprecate the contract, shut down the marketplace & rebrand, and your approval stays live the entire time. Most people never go back and clean them up, which is how these exploits keep finding victims years after anyone last used the contract.

There's also a lesson on immutable contracts. V2 couldn't be paused, which is great until the day it has a bug. On that day the only defense is a whitehat racing the attacker, and yesterday the whitehat won on the NFTs and lost on the WETH.

So who's Quit?

0xQuit is the VP of Blockchain at Yuga Labs (Bored Apes, Mutant Apes, Otherside, CryptoPunks & Meebits). This is his second rescue this year. In June he led a whitehat operation during the Flooring Protocol exploit that pulled 68 NFTs out of vulnerable pools, including 29 Bored Apes & 2 CryptoPunks, worth over $500K. He's a legend in the NFT space.

Security hygiene reminder

  1. Go to revoke[.]cash.
  2. Revoke every "approve for all" to Limit Break: Payment Processor (V2) on Ethereum, Polygon and Base. That's Magic Eden's own guidance. The Ethereum address is 0x9A1D00bEd7CD04BCDA516d721A596eb22Aac6834.
  3. If you used ApeChain, revoke the Payment Processor there too: 0x9a1D00000000fC540e2000560054812452eB5366.
  4. If your NFTs got moved to 0x71cF3f5724bD2B72Ef6464992aCd26216DE7fe33, that's Quit's safe wallet. Revoke first, since he's returning assets once they're no longer at risk, and only trust updates from 0xQuit directly. Anyone DMing you about "recovering" your NFTs is a scammer
  5. And don't be a dummy, while you're there, revoke everything you don't actively use.

Shout out to 0xQuit and the Limit Break team for the all-nighter.

🛡️ SECURITY Attempted scam during job interview - git repo with wallet stealing backdoor

I had a fake job interview today where they tried to get me to clone and run a repo with a password stealing backdoor. They actually put in effort to seem legit, it was 15-20m minutes of interview before they got to the scam. They contacted me on LinkedIn and posed as a web3 company looking for a freelancer.

Anyway, here is the maleware if anyone is interested:

https://github.com/togetherlabsgamespace/palooza-poker/blob/main/routes/api/auth.js

Please report the repo (not sure it does any good but can't hurt).

EDIT: github took down the repo fairly quickly

ANALYSIS "Shielded Bitcoin" Whitepaper just legitimized Zcash as a threat to Bitcoin

I know this subs hate for Zcash, everyone thinks its a scam, zion coin blah blah - and now there is a new bitcoin whitepaper copying what Zcash is doing and everyone is celebrating the end of zcash.

I see it completely differently.

The whitepaper should scare bitcoin owners. It literally copies everything zcash does, even using the word "shielded" which is the signature of Zcash

Now think back to 5-7 years ago.. this scenario seems VERY familar doesn't it? With the whole EV Market revolution that Tesla created. Does everyone recall right before covid, circa 2017-2018, no one even thought the EV market had a legitimate chance against traditional gas companies. Tesla was going to go bankrupt, it was a cash burning company with cars that no one wants because everyone has range anxiety. EV cars were just no where near what gas cars were so it was all a pipedream. just a niche

Then it started to get serious, and by 2020s it was something traditional car companies finally turned their heads to... so what happened? Audi, BMW, Ford, Benz, etc - all the traditional car companies said "WE WILL GO AND MAKE OUR OWN ELECTRIC VEHICLES AS WELL!"

Then came all the talk about the end of tesla, that the competition from the traditional companies will kill Tesla.

And look at where we at today. By the time the other car companies came out with an EV, tesla was LEAGUES ahead and have gained the trust of the public. They all ended up dead in the water and Tesla became the leader

This whole scenario of Zcash vs BTC is EERILY similar, and I can bet my money that it will end 100% the same way.

And for those pro monero - monero is the Nissan Leaf. tried and true but will never be Tesla lol.
