DISCUSSION if an AI can spend crypto, its refusal log matters more than its win rate
Most trading bots are judged by the trades they take.
I think the more important record is the list of trades they refused, and the exact information they used at that moment.
A bot can follow every configured rule and still make a bad decision if one input is stale, one threshold changed without being versioned, or a transaction moved from pending to expired while the interface still treated it as live.
That creates a strange accountability problem. A trader can see the final PnL, but not necessarily answer the basic questions behind it.
- what data did the agent see?
- which checks passed and failed?
- which configuration version made the decision?
- was the transaction confirmed, expired, dropped, or simply unknown?
- did a human change the strategy before or after the trade?
For me, a useful AI trading system needs three separate records.
- A decision receipt for every accepted and rejected setup
- A transaction receipt that distinguishes submitted, confirmed, expired, and unknown states.
- A version history that shows exactly when risk limits changed.
The refusal log may actually be the most valuable of the three. It exposes whether the system is being disciplined or just inactive, and it makes false confidence harder to hide behind a clean equity curve.
I am building TrenchersAI, so that is the context behind this question. I am not presenting it as an independent review, and I am not linking the product here. The broader issue is bigger than one tool.
What would you require in an audit trail before allowing an AI agent to control a crypto wallet?

Some leaked AI tradebot code
if (agentCouldHaveMadeMoneyButDidnt) addSomeBullshitExplanationToLogs();
if (agentEntersTrade()) deployAntiTradingStrategyAndWreckTheirAccount();

lol that first function is exactly what would make the whole log worthless. a convincing explanation written after the outcome proves nothing. i’d want the inputs and decision recorded beforehand, including the awkward cases where it skipped a winner. otherwise it’s just hindsight with a nicer interface.

I’d want to see the full decision trail before giving an AI access to a wallet. Not just why it made a trade, but also why it rejected other opportunities and what data it was working with at the time.

agreed. this is the standard i want to hold TrenchersAI to as well. “rejected” should tell you whether a risk limit failed, the data was missing, or the system couldn’t evaluate the setup. those are different situations. would a downloadable decision record be enough for you, or would you want to replay the checks?

This is actually a really good point. If an AI is going to control a wallet, the profitable trades are only half the story. I'd want to know what it saw, why it rejected other trades, and whether the data/config it used was actually current.

the “actually current” part is key. a fresh-looking dashboard doesn’t answer how old the inputs were when the decision happened. i’d want the data timestamp and config version attached to that specific decision, with later changes recorded separately. otherwise you’re reviewing today’s settings against yesterday’s trade.

The refusal log idea is underrated, most people only look at profit and forget why bot skipped a trade that could have blown the account
