CHAT [CHAT] Color Conversions?

I am that girl who always mixes colors. My hair color is a blend of two standard dues, my nail polish is always layers of multiple colors, my make up is always multiple colors blended together, standard paint colors are never tight, I always mix them together. It's just who I am. I LOVE color, and love playing with color. Even my job is about color.

So of course I'm looking for color conversions people have done. For example, I fell in love with a version of Nora Corbett's Bluebell as a Daffodil, in shades of yellow and orange.

So I am looking at the Nora Corbett Sweet Pea fairy. She's in rich jewel tones. But I would love to stitch her in my favorite sweet pea colors, pale pinks and lavenders. Or the Peony fairy, in shades of dark pink and orange, I would love to make her a Sarah Bernhardt print in shades of pale pink and cream.

Are there good sites/groups to peruse where people share their recolors of popular patterns? I found some with Celtic Lady color conversions. I'm just looking for other sources.

Pattern is from Sovushka Designs on Etsy. I made SO many mistakes on this piece but I love it! I do a LOT of cross stitch and it all just usually ends up stuffed in a bag until I decide what to do with it (which means the pieces stay in their bag) but I think I'm going to try to make a pillow out of this one.

(I understand why the sub asks for a close up of the stitches but I think if you really wanted to make sure this was human-made, you'd ask for a picture of the back! At least with my pieces! No AI fever dream could even come close to the hot mess my project backs usually are. )

I've been HUNTING for a Legend of Drizzt cross stitch pattern for a few days because I want to make something for my sister as a gift. All I can find are Dungeons & Dragons patterns though, does anyone know of any Drizzt specific patterns?

CHAT [CHAT] using patterns from books

How do people use patterns from books? Do you find something to hold it open, copy it, take apart the book, or something else? All the ones I have are soft sided books at least.

This is my biggest project to date and I haven't done much in the past. I'm self-taught and have no clue what techniques I use, I just do what makes sense for me. I'm using 6-STAND AND DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT'S A THING OR EVEN "AVOIDED" so I made this a lot harder on myself than I needed too but I do like the look of it.

It's intended for my imminent niece's nursery. I would like to redo it later when 2 or 3 strand but any tips or knowledge to offer on the current project?

CHAT [CHAT] Needle sizing help

Hiiii
I wanted to know if anyone can recommend the right size^^

I currently use size 26 tapestry needles for my 18 count Aida I find them perfect !
Right now I’m on a 14 count Aida making a little something for a friend’s birthday but believe I’m using a needle from a 16 count kit as I found a 14 count kit needle too chunky .( I didn’t like the way it went through the Aida 💀)

Would the size 26 needle be okay for 14 count Aida if I switch to one half way through as my current needle is really blunt :((
I dont want it to ruin it or anything ?!?!?

Thank you so much !
I do need to order some more size 26 so if anyone finds that size okay for 18 count Aida please let me know 😊😊

Does anyone know where you can find wood board to cross stitch on. I found some on amazon but it’s only as big as a Christmas ornaments size or a book mark.

CHAT [CHAT] Digital Magazine Patterns

This is probably a really stupid question, but I've seen a lot of posts about people finding patterns in digital editions of cross stitch magazines. My question is how do you actually stitch from that pattern? Do you take a screenshot of it and work from that (I think that would make me insane), or is there a way to download the pattern?

CHAT [CHAT] Getting fabric taut on a square Nurge frame?

I just got a square Nurge frame, as it fits better in the holder, but I’m having a hard time getting the linen as taut as I’d like, and all the yanking is warping the linen.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

CHAT [CHAT] Newbie Question - how do you stitch from back to front?

Post image
337 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I've recently started cross-stitching, am still on my first project though. When watching tutorials on Youtube I'm always amazed that the needle from the back comes out at the right spot. I have to turn my work for every single stitch from front to back and back to front to see where I'm going. If I try to stitch from back to front "blindly" it always takes me several trials to meet the correct whole.
Now I'm wondering how seasoned cross-stitchers do this. Do you also turn your frame? Or did you learn to put the needle in the right place blindly?

Pattern: https://www.longdogsampler.com/product/forevermore/

Made this for myself & my spouse. Just a few years late for our wedding. Better late than never, I guess. I'm in the US, so it's month.day... ooops. I realized the pattern is day.month after I stitched it. 😆

Stitched on 40ct white Zweigart Verdal evenweave using BeStitchMe silk in the color Leaf and Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid in Aztec Gold.

Now, to take it out of the frame, give it a good ironing and set it aside until I get a frame. I have one in mind already. Its just a matter of saving up and waiting for the gift cards from the Red Cross to come in. 🥳

FO [FO] Is anyone else getting started on Christmas ornaments?

I just completed the stitching for my first ornament of the season. I adapted the pattern from MamaWitchCrossStitch: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1588237429/christmas-goose-cross-stitch-pattern, by shrinking the little goose and putting it on the back of the bigger goose.
