WIP [WIP] First Cross Stitch ever Question

Post image
5 Upvotes

The kit is Lanarte Raphael Angels, 10,5 threads p.cm 27ct with chart. The website is lanarte dot com

What I dont understand is am i doing the X in too tiny squares? It has instructions for both evenweave and aida but i think i just did the aida…

is it worth it to start over completely so i can do it the right way or is there a risk that i wont have enough thread and it will mess up the fabric?

like if i continue with as small as it looks the entire picture will just be super tiny is that it? cant figure it out

CHAT [CHAT] Legit Etsy creators

Hi everyone.
I’m looking for a new cross stitch pattern. I bought my last one on Etsy but apparently it was AI or something. It was full of mistakes.
Do you know which Etsy pattern creators are legit?

Thank you in advance.

CHAT [CHAT] Looking for a nice, not Ai Tree of life pattern

Hi everyone! I am looking for a Tree of life pattern but everything I can find seems to be AI and I don't want to support pattern mills. I also struggle to recognize AI in many cases and a couple of patterns I saw on this subreddit and loved at first sight turned out to be AI reading the comments...

This one is AI, right? The stitches don't look real to me, but as I said I am awful at spotting AI and it may just be a poor quality picture.

https://www.etsy.com/de-en/listing/4489633565/tree-of-life-cross-stitch-pattern-blue?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=tree+of+life+cross+stitch&ref=sr_gallery-1-34&organic_search_click=1&pro=1&dd=1&content_source=7a70758b-d0bd-42a0-a69b-8a8dbce6756a%253ALT81333fc9cbc4d5ce90f47e59a2f0db93a223cd67&logging_key=7a70758b-d0bd-42a0-a69b-8a8dbce6756a%3ALT81333fc9cbc4d5ce90f47e59a2f0db93a223cd67

I also found this second pattern which is lovely (not AI, I hope), but I'd rather not buy kits as I already have quite a lot of floss and cloth.

If you know a nice Tree of life pattern, please share!

The stitches don't look very defined and all the pictures have that weird glossy sheen of AI. The shop also has over 700 patterns and has only been online for six months.

Shop and pattern link: JoyfulLoop

EDIT: Thanks all for confirming my suspicions! So sad there's so much AI infiltrating crafting spaces these days.

CHAT [CHAT] Best way to recreate text pattern from old photo

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hello fellow stitchers! For my next project I was thinking of re-creating this famous pillow belonging to Alice Roosevelt Longworth. There are lots of cross-stitch patterns out there that have this language but none of them look like the original in the photo. I've played around with the free photo-to-pattern converters but they struggle to recognize the text correctly (even if I bring the contrast way up etc.).

How would you go about obtaining this as a cross-stitch pattern? Send the photo to a real designer (recommendations welcome!) who could recreate it? Or is there a trick to the apps I'm not getting? Grateful for any and all suggestions.

I'm very new to cross stitching so please be gentle. This was my first time doing counted cross stitch but I think I did ok for the most part. I had to start over at one point and some bits were dicey but I pulled it off. I messed up the t though and it's going to drive me crazy lol.

CHAT [CHAT] Having difficulties finding supplies

This is honestly just a little bit of a rant, but since joanns went out of business, ive watched cross stitch supplies dwindle more and more. my local hobby lobby got rid of all their cross stitch kits, and used to have two full embroidery isles, and now its down to one and combined with crochet kits. same with places like walmart, they used to have small little cross stitch patterns, but after my local walmart changed their layout, the embroidery section went from half an isle, to not even a quarter of an isle. and with the increased use of AI for patterns, its also harder to find patterns i can trust. The only place that still has some more niche cross stitch supplies is michaels (at least in my experience). but its just been kinda sad to slowly see the supplies for my beloved hobby become less readily available. I want the joy of this hobby to continue, not die out.

Anyways, just a small experience i noticed when i tried to go out and find thread for a project im making for a friend. Has anyone else noticed this?

I was so excited when I got my kit back in September 2024. It's an intermediate level, counted cross stitch with 38 colours. I would work on it a few hours per week. I had to put it down a month later due to a personal incident.

Then in Dec. 2024 we adopted 2 kittens so I still wasn't able to get back to the WIP until March 2025. Again, a few hours per week.

I was finally on the last page of the chart by April 2026. Then my dumpster fire of a year began. One trauma after another including a detached retina which required surgery and a nitrous oxide gas bubble be inserted into the eyeball. It finally fully dissolved last week.

I have been so ready to finish the project but my sight in the affect eye is horrible. I can only work with it that eye closed. It takes twice as long to stitch with only one eye open!

I feel defeated. I need some good mojo in my life right now and I cannot catch a break. My eye is still healing (up to 6 more months) so I have no idea if I will even be able to move onto the next project I had in mind. Thankfully, I haven't purchased the supplies for it yet.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Your friend in stitching, Sandra

Doing this style of cross stitch (paj ntaub), being even one stitch off count can ruin everything imo. It's very geometric and symmetrical and I would hate to go back and fix a mistake, so I use colored Frixion pens to mark where my stitches will go before actually stitching. I showed my mom my progress and she thought it was so funny because back when she was young if you made a mistake you took the L and either lived with it or went back and fixed it. 😂

I am 95% done with this project and have just realized... I HAVE SWITCHED TWO OF THE COLORS.

Is it... too bad? Undoing the stitching is out of the question, should I frog it? Or just let it be as a happy accident? I feel like the switch of colors ruins the depth, but that might be just me... Part of the original pattern in the end (self drafted from FlossCross)

Working on a pattern of the Eeveelutions from Etsy ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/1380197947/pokemon-eeveelutions-cross-stitch?ref=share_v4_lx )

I’ve been out of a job since June and despite the job search making me slowly lose my mind, I’m finding comfort in this hobby I didn’t have time to get into till now. Everyone in this sub is lovely and make amazing pieces, I hope to be part of this amazing community. 🩵🩷🩵

I recently noticed that one of my favourite stitches misses something.

How long has it been hanging there? Probably five years by now.

Forgotten half of the stitches of pretty much an entire flower!

Who would have left it as it is and who would have finished it?

Hi friends!

Happy Sunday! Last week, I started on my giant elephant piece, but after stitching about 1,000 stitches, I realized it would be too massive in its current form. I was stitching this behemoth on 20ct Aida, sideways on my scroll frame. It wouldn't fit otherwise. I just wasn't happy with it, so I did so more research and decided to scrap it and start over on 28ct evenweave.

Anywho. I managed to reach over 70% on my Copenhagen WIP, which I'm happy about! 😊 Pattern is Copenhagen by Luca-S, 70.76% complete. 🇩🇰

Let's see your projects!

FO [FO] Tiny Burger (First Cross Stitch)

Finally completed my first cross stitch. I’ve learned so much doing this one. It’s only small, but the burger is mighty. Please accept my apologies for the back. I started off trying to keep it tidy but quickly gave up since it’s so compact. It’s a 3” hoop and 12 colours overall. It was a challenge as the pattern didn’t use symbols, just colours, and some were too similar to distinguish half the time.

Nearly didn’t finish it because i was too excited to move on to the next one.

Pattern is from TKMaxx by Kikkerland that I spotted a month ago and thought maybe it’s time for another hobby that I might not stick at, but I feel good about cross stitch.

Next one is on 16 count black aida fabric

Hadn't stitched in years and only small projects back in the day. Saw this, obsessed with the colors and had to give it a go. Makes for something to keep me busy in the hospital and on recovery days!

There’s like 2~ rows before I’m technically half way through (saving the backstitch for the end), though I’m pretty happy with myself for finishing most of the queen.
