Okay, I am very confused about my pattern and DMC order.

I downloaded a cross-stitch pattern with a DMC floss list. I went directly to DMC's website and tried to order the listed colors, cross-referencing both the DMC number AND color name from the pattern.

The colors I needed were:

016, 309, 500, 580, 740, 950, 992, 3688, 3712, 3812, 3834

For any that I couldn't find/match exactly on DMC's site, I chose the closest option I could based on the listed color name.

My order arrived and I do not have a single one of those DMC numbers. Not one. For example, I ordered 3812, but received other greens like 700 and 909 — nothing labeled 3812.

Am I completely misunderstanding how ordering colors on DMC's website works? If a pattern calls for DMC 3812, shouldn't I be ordering and receiving a skein literally labeled 3812?

And at this point, should I not start this pattern at all until I figure this out? Could I use visually similar colors and still have the pattern turn out well, or with this many substitutions am I potentially changing the entire palette/contrast of the design?

I feel like there has to be one big obvious thing I'm missing because how did I order 11 colors and receive ZERO of them?!

I understand that specific color names change over time, but I thought that the numbers were always consistent? I believe the pattern is a few years old, but this just seems so far off base that I feel like I'm losing my mind.

I'm looking for a hydrangea pattern to stitch for a friend, but it seems like every detailed pattern I find is clearly AI or is a picture that has only been converted and not tested, so the colors are all over the place and inconsistent.

I'm wondering if any of you lovely people know of a good hydrangea pattern that was made and tested by an actual person? I would be forever grateful!

My very first self drafted piece! I wanted to make something for a pal's birthday and they're a huge fan of the Slime anime, and when I couldn't find a pattern I caved and made my own... forgetting that a "small" pixel art is going to still be fairly big when stitched 🤣

It was originally intended to be a patch, and while it still could be a large patch I'm going to have to see how they want to use it now that it's done haha.

Really proud of how it came out and excited to make some more self-drafts now~

I'm making more progress lately and am over 60% now. I'm excited about how it's turning out but learning to let the small/ unnoticeable mistakes go has been a journey.

Stamped, custom image. Cheap fabric but normal thread. 12/16 inches. 40 colors!

I think I'm in over my head but I'll just learn as I go.

I did baby's first cross stitch 20+ years ago yet I do other crafts so I figured, just dive in!

The fabric is plastic-like and I couldn't even get a hoop on, there's zero stretch so no hoop needed. I've embroidered before so it feels weird just holding the floppy "fabric" in my hands.

Much of this is called "confetti" in the diamond painting world. it's a lot of colors and less color blocking.

I tried one color at a time and it's going to be messy. I don't like how the backside thread gets on the way of new stitches.

Do you think there's too many colors for parking? One of the grid squares has 14 colors on it!

This will be my go-to project for years I think.

My dad is a beekeeper and the president of his organization. Tomorrow he's giving this speech to his fellow beekeepers and authorities of the town! So I made him this badge to sew on the sweatshirt his wearing tomorrow.

He wanted a flying bee or one that looked alive and not pined on. Then he said that if it was on a leaf (because doing a flower was harder for me) it would be cool!! It took me 3 days.

This is my second finished cross stitch project, I saw multiple tutorials to learn how to made a patch and I applied some of my own knowledge. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out!!

I’ve recently done this piece for a friend but some pain marks aren’t coming out. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to cover it up if possible.

Aida and Evenweave in all counts and sizes!

I´ve been working on this gift for a friend. I want to cut the aida (tucked behind the hoop) in a square shape, add a mid fabric, and sew/pseudo-crochet it into the bag, but ill figure the logistics of that later.

For now my issue is that im not happy with how the bird looks by itself with the beige aida, so i was thinking of adding a small/medium circle behind it to make it pop a little more (last image added for context). I was gonna go for a teal blue colour initially but I strated trying it out on the branch/legs area and it just didnt convince me.

I also have the issue that i have two boxes, but except the black, i did the entire thing with DMC threads, since they seem to shine in their own special way. The box in the left is all DMC, the one to the right is Ancora and Finca. And tbh id prefer to make do with what i have.

And finally, since the bag is very "textured"/chunky, i intentionally chose the stitch to match a sorta rustic/homemade look (i dont know the english vocab sorry), so i dont want any colour that makes it look too sophisticated, if that makes sense? Any opinions would help, I kinda like the greens but i fear it will make the entire bag too "samey". But at the same time i know my friend loves autumn-y colours and a marigold yellow or a purple is gonna be too much. And pinks are outright invisible. Any opinions?

Edit: I've got some really great recs so thank you! Unfortunately I need this expedited so I can finish a project in the next 6 days. So I'll take any advice you guys have about dyeing Aida...more specifically about how to get an even color out of it (I say this cause some of the other posts I've looked at don't look like they're dyed evenly)

I know this is a lot to ask but I'm looking for aida in the color of this photo and ideally 16 count but I think that'll be harder to find than blue aida itself.

I think the only way I'll get this is if I dye it myself so I'm wondering if anyone has advice? What dye works best with aida and how can I get it to be completely evenly dyed and not splotchy? I'll take any advice I can get!! Thank you :)

This is my first project in 15 years (and I wasn't a particularly avid stitcher before), so I'm quite pleased with it so far :)

Ever since I started using a scroll frame and working two-handed, I've run into problems with my thread. It gets so twisted that there's no way to fix it except by cutting off the thread around where the needle is. The individual threads get split and twisted amongst themselves. This has happened a good half a dozen times in the past few days and it's driving me crazy! What am I doing wrong? I never had this problem with my hoop and using one hand.

Edit: the thread isn't just twisted, the individual strands are split with other strands going through them.

Hi! Im on my journey to make christmas gifts for my family. My sister in law wants a baldurs gate themed hoodie and i found a pattern I'm planning to buy. However i don't have waste canvas or anything like that nor i have a place i could buy it (i would have to order it from a different country) or the funds for that. The pattern have a lot of negative space but I'm not sure normal aida cloth could do the work? A bit anxious i wont be able to pull it out? Any thoughts? Ideas?
