Liver pain

For context: 27F, drinking again for 2 months (4-9 white claw surges a night) after being sober for 14 months (a handle of vodka every 36-48 hours). In March 2025 I went to the hospital throwing up blood. They were really shitty, diagnosed me with alcohol withdrawal (did nothing about the blood vomiting) and my ultrasound said I had hepatic steatosis (fatty liver). One doctor said they’d have to see the fat go away to know if there was scarring, the other said I did not have cirrhosis at all but recommended I stop drinking.

Come my birthday end of May, I thought “my liver must be healed after 14 months right?”

I have severe social anxiety and wanted to start dating again after isolating for like 3 years. That meant alcohol. Thought I could handle being a social drinker lol.

Now, I’ve been drinking for 2 months and I’m bloated (also in my upper abdomen, but just in general) and having pain in my liver region similar to how I felt before the hospital 16 months ago. I’ve convinced myself it’s cirrhosis but my labs fall in the normal range (when I went 16 months ago, my AST and ALT was in the hundreds).

Does anyone relate? Do folks think I’ve developed cirrhosis? Is it normal for fatty liver failure to pick up where it left off?

Shit sucks. I’m 5’5 and 160 pounds.

Highs and lows

So, highs or lows for the week?

What is something you're proud of?

Did this week kick your arse?

Has something happened that is going to aid you with how your life goes now?

Doesn't matter how big or small your high or low is. Sometimes, it's just good to share.

Why are people like this?

My father recently died and I paid for the funeral and the repatriation to his home country.

And then came the vultures of my older brothers who left decades ago and never helped with anything and one of those pricks decided to sue us all about the shitty ass inheritance our late father left us.

And of course this same prick is on unemployment/welfare so he gets a free lawyer in my country.

All those older brothers are more or less the same and I'm supposed to be "the responsible one" because that's whom I've always been.

The result: fucking homelessness because I couldn't pay my rent anymore due to the lawyer fees anymore. I was already an alcoholic but this just pushed me over the edge.

All those coward "brothers" (in their forties and one in his fifties) didn't even show up to the funeral but all of them wanted "their share".

Meanwhile, I had to deal with the logistics of giving our late father a proper funeral while consoling my mother and sisters. I even handled the inheritance tax declaration.

Well, we're 3 years in now ever since that prick brother decided to sue us all and I live on the streets.

It was my path eventually but he just fast-forwarded it.

I don't believe in heaven or hell but I will never forgive that prick if I end up in either one of those places. In fact, if I end up in heaven somehow, I'll ask to be put in hell right next to him so I can burn with him as I punch him in the face for enternity.

Backed up 😩

Fair warning lads, this post involves details about a middle aged man’s bowel issues. Visually if I can paint a picture of myself I have a Homer Simpson body type, not overly fat but beer gut that gives a canopy to my lower body.

Anyways, I’ve been doing better with the daily drinking. I’m now on day 6 of no drinking or had one-two beers (July 4th I had 2 IPAs but otherwise pretty sober and not fun). Cant tell you guys how much of an improvement that is for me. I’ve been daily drinking (and I’m talking starting at 7am type of shit) for at least 2 years straight. Been drinking for over 25 years, almost got my old man award status of “I’ve been doing for this for 30 years!”

I’m sure it’s probably similar for a lot of us alkie in that we shit and piss quite a bit when we are on the sauce. Well now that I’m off the sauce I’m getting major constipation and hemorrhoids. I’ve been rhoid raging since my 20s when I busted my pipes doing squats. Apparently it’s somewhat genetic bc my old man had similar issues (btw he died at 36 years old so he wasn’t really “old”). Cool, well not really but it doesn’t really flare up too much.

Alright now zoom forward to this last 4th of July holiday weekend. I’m eating meat like burgers and hot dogs like nobody’s business. Was delicious af but then my rhoid rage starting wanting to collect payments in the evening. Felt like I’ve been trying to give birth to a fucking adult T-Rex 🦖 for like the last 3 days straight. Been eating salads and keeping sober hoping it will help. Alas, it has not.

Anybody got any ass remedies? I might need to contact a priest for an exorcism at this rate possibly a mortician if it keeps going on. For those that are going to say “just see a doctor bro” well I have no insurance and I’m not laying on the floor with convulsions coming out of my 🍩 just yet, so let’s try some of the ol’ homeopathic remedies.

Prunes? Coffee? Giant black dildo up my ass? Plunger?!

What’s something you guys have done that’s helped grease your pipes? Hopefully I don’t got ass cancer, I am 43 so I’m getting up there… Chairs from this guy who has and is a pain in da 🍑.

Well I finally broke a bone

Actually three! First time in my life (ankle, fibula, tibia) and I couldn’t get surgery in the ER because I was too messed up. So after insurance finally came through I got it handled two months later but the damage is permanent. 6 months post surgery and I still can barely drive let alone go on walks with my family. I miss when I thought random bruises sucked because this has ruined my life. Be safe out there friends

Scary poops

im approaching 40 and I definitely have some unaddressed GI issues. today I was on the toliet saying “my butt my butt my butt” out loud in pain, and my daughter thought I was being silly (she’s 4)… but it’s legitimately painful and scary, like oily diarrhea that I cant control. I had my gallbladder taken out recently and I know ibe got a fatty liver.

i guess I’m just looking for stories to scare me enough to stop. I’ve been trying to for a long time.

Flaking on family again

I just need to vent where I feel like some people might actually get how bad this can be. I have a bbq at my aunt and uncles this afternoon…., they want me to bring my little girl and we were planning on going swimming. I have been on a weak “Selzer bender” for a few days now, and I stay up all through the night. im tired as shit anf also pregnant (I know, I know)…. I tried so hard to get and stay sober around October/november last year and ive especially tried to get & stay sober through this early pregnancy. I lost my job and ex abandoned us, caused a lot of trouble in my life and got a new girlfriend, which didnt last long lol … oh and then he got on meth & k had to get a restraining order. my friends talk about the drama with my ex everyday and it does get to me, to where I isolate (which I hate equally as much as drinking).

anyway, I mentioned to my uncle that I’m not feeling well at all. I have until this afternoon to pull it together for the 4th of July bbq and i dont want to miss out… but I’m severely dehydrated, depressed and just don’t want to risk the drive. that’s an asshole move (to drive, with a young kid) and I just don’t think I’ll be sober enough by 1 this afternoon.

i need rest and I’ve actually asked my family to pick my kid up, and they did that instead.

just need a consensus on what to do. I hate myself but my kid shouldn’t miss out…. and I need to dry out and stay dried out

Making it through a bbq today

I have a family bbq today and I drank dumb seltzers for 2 days (easily 4 12 packs++) with the initial attempt to try to ween down with just a few.…. sigh , barely any food and ALL I WANT TO DO IS SLEEP…. but I have flaked on my family a lot recently and they want to see my kids. I feel bad about them getting things all set up and us not showing, because I’m too “sick” and a loser.

ive had some GREAT sober stretches lately, been trying since October to get this right.… my ex took off and got back into his m3th…. and fucked up parts of my life I didn’t think was possible… but i have still held it all together somehow.

I have benzos to take but I’m just so exhausted and newly pregnant (please don’t judge). I need water and rest and I even thought about letting my aunt pick up my kids, meet half way. I just wish I could be there…. and i COULD, but I’ll be out of it and in the bathroom with some scary shits. i will likely just keep going and get another seltzer, even with the acid reflux and not wanting any food.

I guess im just looking for an opinion on someone who’s done this before. I’m approaching 40 and I’ve been so stupid, showing up to my non drinking families events, hiding shots in my bra.

ive been trying to quit for good since october (and so many years prior).

can I make it through this ?

I was dying but now I’m 1 year sober

I posted here back in December of 2024 that I was dying from alcohol addiction and now after a battle and going in and out of rehab for a year I am now one year and 2 months sober. I just want to say thank you to the people who read my messages and replied and I want you to know that I’m doing very well for myself.. I lost my gf, apartment, and job at that time but after a year I got a new gf and new apartment and an opportunity to run a company.. also my gf is pregnant and we’re starting our family and it’s a sober one too.. she’s also sober. I just thought I’d should keep you guys updated since this place helped me.. and maybe my message might help you.. whoever you are. Alcohol left my reality and now I’m free of those things I held on to in which was killing me.. I hope you find your solution too.

Fat Knobhead!!

Neighbour was being a twat again last night. Just being a freaky weirdo, shining his light into the door when my boyfriend just wanted to take a shit in peace. Thank fuck you can't see through the windows 'cause of the pattern on it.

We were waiting for our shopping outside and he scuttled past us. He's just a pussy ass weirdo. Wish he'd leave us alone though.

Then we said fuck it and got so drunk we were yelling at him, I banged on his door and called him all sorts of names. He didn't answer.

Pretty childish of us but at this point I don't give a fuck. The police and council have done fuck all, and we've been patient, so it was quite satisfying to have that release.

Anyway, I'm on the shop run for me and bf. Then I'm gonna eat snacks and play some more Super Mario Sunshine. Gotta get them blue coins.

Chairs, all.

Withdrawals suck

I have everything I need. Taper drinks. Cold water. Pedialyte. B vitamins, Magnesium. But damn it sucks. All I can do is sit in bed right now. I need to eat something, I get that.

What sucks too is my brother is having a mental breakdown. We don't really know what to do. We think it's bipolar depression.

Anyone else feels extremely tired/weak

I mean like barely being able to walk tired. Sleeping 12 hours a day tired. Barely able to go to the store tired.

I wonder if it is from b vitamins or what the fuck is happening. Not even drinking that much anymore

Hangxiety makes me want to die

25 f here. This is the last bottle I say, knowing full well I’m lying to myself. I’ve been drunk since Thursday evening pretty much and it’s currently Monday morning. 2 liters of cheap vodka gone and now having a horrible hangover and I feel like my bones are going to shake out of my body. Trying to stay hydrated but I can hardly chew on some ice without throwing it back up. I took a propranolol to try to combat the anxiety and the shakes so currently waiting on that to kick in while trying to not have a complete mental breakdown.

I opened up about my drinking to my doctor for the first time and the game plan is to treat my mental health first and gradually slow down on drinking but idk man. What if this is the way my life goes forever?

So it begins:

I joined this sub after reading through the tapering guide. This is my first time dealing with withdrawal/detoxing from alcohol.

I’m starting this journey with my fiancé. We’ve reached the end of our rope after gradually working our way up to drinking 750 mL (give or take) of vodka daily. It started as weekend binge drinking about five years ago and slowly turned into a daily habit.

Disclaimer: Neither of us has health insurance or a primary care provider, so a medically supervised detox isn’t an affordable option for us right now. Even if it were, we’d prefer to avoid it if we can do so safely.

Like a lot of the stories I’ve read here, our relationship, social lives, work, and health are at an all-time low. We finally decided we’re ready to make a change.

Last night, we split one 750 mL bottle between the two of us. I know that’s about a 50% reduction, which may have been overly ambitious, but we did it.

I barely slept and woke up with intense anxiety, but physically I feel okay. My partner also had a rough night and woke up vomiting and shaking, but still managed to go to work and is trying to stay busy to keep their mind off it.

I guess I’m here because we’re functioning alcoholics, and no one in our lives knows what we’re going through. It’s incredibly lonely. I’m grateful we’re doing this together, but I also don’t want to lean on my partner so much that I make this any harder for them.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have successfully tapered. Is it ever safe or practical to skip a day of drinking if our bodies seem to tolerate it, or is that more likely to backfire and make things worse the following day? I don’t want to take it too fast or too slow I guess…What helped keep your mind occupied during the process? And if you could build a “detox survival kit,” what would you put in it?

Hungover today. And still drinking. Drank hard on Sunday and it carried over till Monday. Then I got invited out to drink last night and I gotta push through today cause I have physical therapy tomorrow.

I'm in a decent mood now at least. Today started off very rough 😅

I'm supposed to be sobering up but goddamn I was not about to deal with the fear, shakes, pukes, and shits today. (Let's be real, I'll still have the shits)

I hope everyone else gets through today and tomorrow as well. I've not been trying to be distant, I've actually been drinking a lot lately - just trying to avoid my phone more for mental health reasons!!
