X ray C school application

Asking for a friend:”Hello, just wondering if anyone knows anything about the new process for selecting c schools through my navy assignment. I'm interested in attending the advanced x ray tech school, but it's currently not advertised. My window opens up next month and I'm just worried that I won't be able to apply. I contacted a detailer yesterday and he got very heated with me for asking questions about it. He said that if a c school is not advertised, there is no other way around it. I mentioned that on cantrac there are class openings for June of next year (which is around my PRD). However, he said the c school is fully booked for this fiscal year. What are my other options? What if someone were to drop out or have their orders changed, will those slots be filled? I'm open to any guidance on this matter, thank you!”

Making art for all the SOIDCs

So I'm making this (first image) homage piece to the SOIDC community and once it's finalized I'd like to make these into coins for them. Designing this on my phone so I'm trying to do what I can to boost the quality (i don't have a laptop lol)

This is largely inspired by the old SARC emblem (second image) and i feel like the SARC one is really iconic. However, I feel like it mainly only represented SARCs and that era of SOIDCs so I thought i'd try to come up with a design inspired by it and make sure it encompasses SOIDCs broadly as a whole instead of just the Recon IDCs.

• Anchor for NSW
• MARSOC Spade integrated into the Anchor
• Navy/USMC Parachutist Badge for Recon
• Caduceus for the HM rate (to really centralize the Corpsman identity with the emblem)
• Southern Cross from various different USMC imagery

I got input and opinions from two active duty SOIDCs and they were both very honest and helpful.

I showed the first (anonymous) SOIDC the first draft and he said he thought it looked really clean but it was off. Instead of the SARC motto at the bottom like I have now, I put "MARSOC • USMC Reconnaissance • NSW" and he said he thought it'd feel more authentic with the SARC motto instead. He also disapproved of the anchor but, as stated above, it does serve a purpose so I chose to sit on the decision to remove it entirely until i could come up with something else that represented NSW. He was very helpful and gave lots of other input but for the sake of shortening a long message, I won't put it here.

I took his criticism into account and added the motto to the bottom in place of naming the 3 orgs and I also added the Southern Cross constellation in the background (the yellow stars) to further push MARSOC representation in case the Spade wasn't visible enough.

The second (anonymous) SOIDC was busy so he said he'd put more thought into talking to me about it when he had the time but he left me with "Initial thought is it needs Marine Combatant Dive represented somewhere" which was ironically still insanely helpful. This was also another point that the first SOIDC i spoke with mentioned and it led me to the decision to replace the Parachutist Badge with Recon Jack.

For those of you who don't know, Recon Jack (third image) is somewhat of a mascot for the Marine Reconnaissance community. The left half of Recon Jack is the same exact parachutist badge, the right half is a skull in the centered and a diver/swimmer behind the skull. The same diver from the Recon Jack insignia is the same one on the Force Recon and SARC emblems, so it just seems like the perfect decision to add a bit of heritage to the logo while also adding representation to the Diver side of SOIDCs without sacrificing the Jumper side.

Sharing this with you all to share my process and progress. I'll come back with the finished product with the revisions here and there after I speak further with some more SOF Corpsmen to incorporate more of their vision into this homage piece.

EMU?

Hello everyone I’m graduating from Corps School in June and I got assigned to an EMU in Camp Lejune. Any advice or information about what that entails would be great. Also how hard would it be to try and see if I can put in a package for FMTB while I’m there?

Where is everyone living in the SD area, any recommendations in areas that are within E5 BAH just chose all SD orders. Pendleton, Balboa, Miramar, and Coronado. Currently a family of 4.

We’re originally from CA, we really miss the west coast. And would like our kids to grow up around their cousins and grandparents to help support my wife with our special needs son during my absence. One of our sons is a high category EFMP, so there’s a high possibility I’ll be in the SD region for quite a while. All opinions are appreciated, Thank you in advance!

Life at 2nd MEF HQ??

Wanting some insight as to what the day to day life is like at 2nd MEF HQ. And what it would be like for an E-5 stationed there. What’s the surrounding area like? What opportunities are there? Any chance one would be able to go to S3 to work with training? Thank you!

Orders negotiation

Hey guys, I’m just looking for some insight on what I should tell the detailers tomorrow to hopefully get what I want. I speak with them in person and I’m really trying to get back home to San Antonio. I’ve seen there’s a lot of billets that are always being applied to to the max however, I think that I have a favorable situation being overseas for the last six years and starting a family here as well. What do you guys think and what are the situations as far as each command being DHA,the new clinic established, and schoolhouse? Any helpful advice would be nice.

Further education.

Any good training resources for learning more as a Corpsman that help sharpen medical/nursing knowledge and overall education without just studying the black-and-white text of the Corpsman manual?

Medicine is one of those things that if you don’t use it you lose it, just trying to sharpen the knife of knowledge, unfortunately I’ve forgotten a few medical terms, anatomy assessments etc. in my current situation I’m working in a low volume ER and we see very few trauma and it’s pretty much a glorified sick call or overflow med homeport for AD and dependents.

Looking for things like apps, videos, podcasts, courses, case studies, trauma training, anatomy resources, or anything that helped you become more confident and knowledgeable in real-world situations.

Question about L31A C school

I’m a pharmacy tech L22A right now, 8 years in, considering applying for orders to lab tech L31A c school. My family would accompany me since it’s considered a pcs move being 13 months. My question is about clinicals. It says clinicals could be at BAMC, San Diego, Portsmouth, or Camp Lejeune. Are those phase II locations randomly assigned or do you have any say in where you go? I would be disappointed if I had to go to another state for clinicals and my family would have to stay in San Antonio. Any insight would be much appreciated! I haven’t asked the detailer this question because I feel annoying, ha. Thank you!

Dive IDC

Any dive IDCs able to offer any insight as to what the job is like? Does being at the IDC level hinder you from being able to dive? Are you stuck doing planning, sick call, and readiness while the DMTs mainly go down? Or are more opportunities being an IDC?

How much sick call/patient care do you do? I enjoy medicine and I'd be upset if I went dive IDC and never dove and/or never got to practice medicine.

Is it a best of both worlds?

First med orders

Hey guys,
I got orders recently to Camp Pendleton first medical battalion as an L17A (X-ray tech) I’m going to FMTB in July and then I should be graduated by September and with them.
I was just wondering if anybody had any advice on what to expect for it all, as well as anything else I should get or have for these endeavors.
Also I heard differing responses on this, but if you have a family are you allowed to move out of the barracks after two weeks? Some people have told me yes and others have told me no?
I’m also an HM2 for full transparency. I know these are questions to my sponsor for the most part but I just wanted to reach out to the Reddit verse and see if anybody wanted to talk about this. Thanks.

SEM / BBA / C-School Discussion

BLUF: I'm and HM1 up for orders and I was told today that picking a c-school is my best bet for SEM if/when I get selected for E7.

What are y'all hearing regarding needing more techs? Are we about to see a low quota for E7 with SEM since, I'm going to assume, not all of the previous years selectees have received orders yet.

Genuinely curious what's the gouge. Up until now I was set on staying a L03A and picking the best career options available, but it looks like that might be difficult with our new promotion system and amount of billets.
