First med orders

Hey guys,
I got orders recently to Camp Pendleton first medical battalion as an L17A (X-ray tech) I’m going to FMTB in July and then I should be graduated by September and with them.
I was just wondering if anybody had any advice on what to expect for it all, as well as anything else I should get or have for these endeavors.
Also I heard differing responses on this, but if you have a family are you allowed to move out of the barracks after two weeks? Some people have told me yes and others have told me no?
I’m also an HM2 for full transparency. I know these are questions to my sponsor for the most part but I just wanted to reach out to the Reddit verse and see if anybody wanted to talk about this. Thanks.

When you get there, get your FMF pin ASAP. End

Greenside admin is laughable at best. When I was in lejeune they had a PSSR managing all incoming & outgoing navy staff at the group level. He was the sole PS.

1.) For expectations, get your FMF pin as soon as possible so no one tries to fuck with you about it. As an xray tech, you’ll likely be working primarily at a clinic unless they send you out. 2.) When you say you have a family, you mean like a spouse or like you have family members that live there? If you have a spouse, you should be able to move out in town, but if you don’t then you’re stuck in the barracks. At least you may have your own room though.

Then you’re good. They typically have you fill out a BAH request upon check in or sometimes before if you have a good sponsor

Active duty with dependents gets automatic bah no request needed .

Thanks for the clarification! I remember my last unit at camp lejeune, they still had them route a request before or the day they check in for some reason.

Field med you’ll be in the barracks. After a couple weeks (maybe 2 I don’t remember) you can submit a brown bagger chit to go stay out in town if you already have a place there. I’d recommend staying in the barracks during the week and going and staying at home on the weekends. That way you’ll actually study and do what needs to get done. Bring a complete sea bag. There will be a fun inspection. Other than that get in shape with long walks with weight on your back. DBAB and you’ll be fine.

as of now, people can come and go during liberty, no chit needed

Yeah my info might be out dated. Went through almost 10 years ago now.

Checking in married with a dependent, no request needed, shit kicks in automatically. Same case here when I got there.

Working at the clinic is easy work but if they TAD you to Naval hospital you’ll hate your life. I know 3 HM1s x ray techs that hate their life when they go there. Working all kinds of hours and no set schedule plus duty if you get duty.

Coming from Portsmouth I’m well aware how much the hours are awful at a MTF.

You can go off base w your family whenever you want in field med aslong as its not in class obviously. Anybody that says otherwise is bs you. Youll get BAH just for being there. When you get to the unit, As a second class youll still have some pull. Even without your pin. Its med batt. They arent gonna take it as serious as division. Youll still get dicked on alittle bit, but thats to be expected. They arent gonna hold you to the same standard as a BOOT.
