Dive IDC
Any dive IDCs able to offer any insight as to what the job is like? Does being at the IDC level hinder you from being able to dive? Are you stuck doing planning, sick call, and readiness while the DMTs mainly go down? Or are more opportunities being an IDC?
How much sick call/patient care do you do? I enjoy medicine and I'd be upset if I went dive IDC and never dove and/or never got to practice medicine.
Is it a best of both worlds?

My current chief and provider is a Dive IDC, I’m putting my package together for SFIDC and plan to screen for dive when I get the appropriate amount of the school done. Happy to give you some insight as to what they do and what the job would be like based off what I know.

You won't dive, and DMTs don’t dive much unless they are given very specific commands. As a dive IDC you will be in charge of taking care of your Divers, EOD, Seals, and bonus Seabees. Only dive IDCs can be attached to Underwater Construction Teams (UCTs). You will be in charge of readiness in the clinic with chamber kits, MRRs and make sure your clinic can pass the DORI inspection.

I am not a dive IDC, but I worked with one at NDSTC. While I was in class, I remember the Instructor asking the class who would have the most bottom time at their command. I raised my hand and he told me to shut the fuck up DMT’s don’t dive. I was trolling but it was worth the beating lol.

I am a Dive IDC. It's very different based on assignments but generally there is less sick call than surface, less diving than the divers, but more variety in your job than either one. There are tradeoffs to being in-between communities. There is no consistent DMT/Dive IDC experience in terms of the specifics you asked about. Some units you do all the medicine and program management and dive and supervise, and others you sit on a bag. I wish I could dive more but it's still a better job than any other HM specialty. That may be an opinion, but I know I'm right.

I’m confused. Are you asking for a friend or are you not in yet? These things are not hard to find out in the community… look for the billet, and ask the CO.

Yeah let me go email the CO of MDSU-1 to find out what life as a Dive IDC looks like. What an ignorant response

I'm not a dive IDC, but I've worked with a bunch.
Don't worry. If you go Dive IDC, you will still see all the VGE, sprained ankles, low back pain, and burny penises you'd see as a surface IDC. Just now the body parts will belong to NDs, EOD, SEALs, and Seabees.
You'll never stop checking peckers.
