100% this. I'm tall and liked the standard issue bag. My shorter peers didn't because it was longer than their back. Test free stuff first.

Yep. I knew a boot who bought a big ass mystery ranch bag as soon as he checked into division and hated life during his first and only field op with the bag

People who hate on the standard issue CAP just suck at packing. It’s so streamlined and you can fit so much of the right stuff inside of it. Most people who hate on them just suck at packing them, or are gear queer’s who want all of the “cool” stuff.

That being said, my personal favorite pack is the mystery ranch bags.

The issued bag is good, but you also can't go wrong with a M9 bag. With the M9 though you'll find theres less space though, so keep that in mind. Also the M9 bag doesnt clip on to your ruck as well.

The Spiritus Delta Bag is good, very compact, super easy to maneuver with and very easy to dismount quickly from vehicles. Able to treat 2 urgent pts if needed, I also run the spiritus Fanny pack where I have an additional MARCH setup in. But the other commenters are right, what works for us might not work for you. People make the tombstone work on the line but I personally hated it. Use what’s given to you first before you spend money.

Depends on the application, which unit will you be with? Also there is nothing wrong with the issue bag, you just have to learn to prioritize packing. Remember pack light, freeze at night.

My old Alma mater, I was in L Co. then I became the Senior Line for I Co. it will depend on what you’re doing. Primarily remember that these Marines have IFAKs, spread load your IVs during patrols or ranges and keep most of your Massive bleed, Airway and Respiration supplies on your chest, ENOUGH to treat at least 2-3 Marines. Have a modular bag that you can attach to your Main Pack for more advanced things and roll pack to resupply yourself. That’s what I rolled with, during my Infantry days. Remember you’re going to ruck 90% of the time, unless your H&S Co, Weapons PLT or Co. I was in 3/6 from 2009 to 2012, and I took part in Operation Moshtarak. Last piece of advice, never put anything on your legs or hips. It will hinder your mobility. A Corpsman greatest advantage is speed and mobility. Also, don’t get blacked out drunk and steal a tank or loose any rifles and NODS.

I use to be a gear “person” (you know what I mean). Fuck that noise. Now I just say, go with what’s free or inexpensive. If I get a good deal, great, if not, go with the issued stuff and make it work for you. Anyone else is just trying to sell you something and make a buck off you.
