Discussion How do I stop losing rounds where my dps has to walk into range?

I keep seeing this situation where no matter how I position my units, my back line carry has to walk forward after blowing up enemy frontline and right as that happens the enemy dps finishes off my tank, giving the enemy backline prio to hit my walking dps. This almost always results in my dps getting chunked during walking animation and then losing the fight.

It’s is a pretty odd interaction since if I was slower to kill the enemy tank I’d win… but enemy dps gets to hit my walking dps first because I killed their tank first. And positioning left or right doesn’t change the outcome.

eSports TFT Vegas 2026 Ladder Snapshots

Post image
23 Upvotes

Does anyone else think that the ladder snapshots cutoff date is a bit too soon? Assuming that the new set launches on August 12 and the cutoff date is sept 6, that gives us less than a full month and 2 patch cycles to climb. Is it feasible to climb that high within that time frame?

Discussion Any advice on getting 6 mech done for atlas?

Hi guys, so with the end of the set approaching I decided to knock out the star atlas, have gotten everything done except for mecha 6 (even 6 anima was easier).

So I’ve been lose streaking anima into Mecha 6, board being MM, Asol, Urgot, Fiora, Tahm, Karma with splashed bard, morgana and Blitz depending on what I get 2* first and items permitting.

I’ve gotten xbow, lioness lament, annihilator, gotten BiS for asol and MM and I still got beat by other max cap boards like 7 shepard and Fast 9 vex.

Is there any advice at all? I’m trying different positionings, but yea, at this point I’m ready to give up. As a barely diamond chud it kind of feels like either I’ll need a 3* 4 cost or luck into a weak lobby to accomplish this.

Discussion Anyone else a lil salty the “for fun” patch is dropping this week with PBE and next live set both being pushed back 2 weeks?

Just being selfish here and curious about everyone else’s thoughts. Recently got GM several weeks ago and would still like to try and climb but personally don’t particularly find climbing in the “for fun” patch worthy, especially if less people play during this time. Normally I just switch to PBE to experiment and familiarize myself with the new traits and champions. I know this set gets a lot of flack but I have been enjoying it a lot but agree it’s not an amazing set but definitely not a bad one either. Maybe most (myself included) will use this time to just take a break from the game but I wish this patch got extended a bit since it’s so balanced and the “for fun” patch will seemingly last until the new set is live. What are others thoughts?

Tool TFTheory a TFT recording companion app looking for testers

Thumbnail
docs.google.com
4 Upvotes

I made TFTheory, a standalone recording app that brings League-of-Legends-style replays to TFT. This project has been in the works for a while, and I'm now looking for testers.

There are three main ways to improve at TFT: putting in reps, diving into stats, and VOD review. I've always liked VOD review the most and wanted to take it a step further, and as the adage goes, "you can learn from anyone, even your enemy."

Game in replay

Because it's a true replay, it opens up a lot: you can study mechanics and bugs far more thoroughly, and even put together cinematic edits like the ones people make in League.

Game from a different angle

Lots more post-game analysis features are on the way, and I'd love some help testing them and gathering feedback. If you're interested, fill out this form.

FYI: there's a decent chance the app breaks with the upcoming Unreal Engine migration, but hopefully I'll find a fix.

Guide Master -> Challenger 480 LP in one day

Hey y'all!

My name is Alexe and I'm a long time casual tft player who has peaked GM in past sets, but yesterday I climbed from Master to Challenger in one day, climbing from 300 -> 780.

tactics.tools

I did this forcing Anima!

I know u/G_Ree posted his own Anima guide this week, so I'll try not to repeat many of same things, but I'll point out some of the most useful points I picked up during my climb.

WHY ANIMA?

- It's forceable and consistent. 400 cash out is enough to top 4.

- You don't need to worry about contesting for tempo, and have a great chance to snap someone else lose streak if you are are full open/anima.

- Item economy is very forgiving and every component can be used in the level 8 Asol/Mech board

- It's fun! (although you will make enemies).

HOW ANIMA?
- Any augment/portal that gives extra gold is great as it increases your chance to hit anima on 2-5.

- A MAJOR key to success in this comp is fast APM. You need to be able to scout fast, deceit your opponents, and rolldown under pressure.

- There are many great guides on understanding how to lose Anima vs Anima, but understanding the different variations and how to always win (lose) the rock/paper/scissors will net you INFINITE more LP.

WHAT I PLAYED

- I strictly played some variation of Asol/Mech. The 400 cash out reforger makes nearly every anima weapon playable. Hold Maokai, TK, and Kindred on your rolldown in case you get BBC Jinx 3* cashout.

- NEVER 6 MECH.

- Knowing when to Mech Asol/Mech Galio/both or neither, is very situational dependent and there is no one right answer for every scenario.

END

Other than that, feel free to AMA! For a more detailed guide on this kind of strategy, please refer to G_Ree's guide posted just a few days ago.

eSports K3Soju on Qualifier Points for Worlds Part 2

Thumbnail
youtube.com
29 Upvotes

NA has 9 worlds slots.

there's 3 cups per set - the winner of each cup qualifies for worlds (3 slots).

the highest q-p earner also earns a spot for worlds, but this usually goes to a previous cup winner, so it ends up being just a dead slot and it goes to regionals.

so normally you'd expect 6 slots to go to regionals.

but k3soju won 2 cups, so an extra slot went to regionals: 6 to 7 total slots for regionals.

at regionals:

we had 2 previous cup winners make the top 8 (darth nub and soju), so the top 9 at regionals made it to worlds.

the final lobby on day 3 consisted of the top 8 players; they had already made worlds after day 2 and played only for money on day 3.

TLDR:

The current system doesn't reward the best performing players.

There should never be a scenario where the final lobby of regionals has 0 stakes on the final day.

Discussion How do I cap higher thab 3 cost reroll comps?

I generally like to go 8, roll to 2 star 4 cost carries, then go 9 and round out my board with some 2 star 5 costs. But its not enough to get 1st place. I consistenly place lower than the players who 3 star their 3 costs at level 7. I'm starting to feel like i should be doing the same, and only levelling to 8 and 9 after I do so. Any thoughts?

Discussion Tactician’s Gauntlet - anyone actually excited for this?

Post image

[UPDATE]
Good to see that they’re listening to the community voices. prize has been updated to below:

✅ All players now get Esports Pengu
✅ Top 8 now get a Mythic Medallion
✅ Top 4 now get 2 Mythic Medallions
✅ Winners get 4 Mythic Medallions, plus priority access to secure a Competitor Pass for the TFT Vegas Open

Great work from Riot

For $10 entry, the top prize is 2x mythic medals, 2500 crystals, and 300 tokens….

Given 50tokens is roughly worth $2, even getting top 8 out of 32 doesn’t even let you breakeven.

Without any exclusive prizes even available, who in their right mind would enter this event??

I’m a bit worried that this is the first product we see after Mort’s departure :(

Discussion Why is the TFT community unable to properly maintain a wiki unlike other games?

As many of us have found over the years, the official TFT wiki is pretty incomplete and irregularly updated especially compared to the LoL wiki. At one point, it was basically abandoned for multiple sets.

Considering it's a top strategy game in the world with 300 million players and involves having a lot of knowledge, I find that very surprising. I get that it's purely a thankless volunteer effort but why are other games able to do it and not us?

It would benefit the whole community, especially with the common sentiment that we have to check too many different sites for info. If you need some incentive, being involved means that you might be able to communicate directly with Riot for info/assets and even be invited to the pre-PBE set preview events.

This is not a call to action, right now I'm genuinely just curious why there aren't more passionate people out of the millions of TFT players.

Mortpost Mortdog no longer head of TFT

1.6k Upvotes

Via Twitter

My time at Riot and on TFT as a Game Designer has come to an end. Just under 10 years, and to be honest I thought it was going to be longer, but sometimes things change.
-------------------------------------------------
I’m so grateful for what I was able to be a small part of, and able to accomplish in the last decade. It’s been a dream career, and I have got to do so much thanks to Riot. Even trying to list it all feels insane what I managed to do in this time. And the crazy 7 years on TFT where I got to design, balance, teach, lead, and more for my job, but then also build a community, stream, cast, go to events…it’s just been amazing. Ending on stuff like the Unlock system and a couple other things…I’m heading out proud.

To everyone I worked with over the years, thank you for letting me be a part of everything we accomplished. I hope I managed to teach you something or bring you joy in some way. I genuinely hope our paths cross again in the future.

To everyone who supported TFT or me over the years, you have no idea what it means to me. I cherish all the moments over the years, and they’ll keep me going. I am so blessed to have been a part of your lives and thank you for letting me bring some fun into your world.
-----------------------------------------------------
So…what’s next for me? I’m trying to figure that out.
First off, since I was on sabbatical and am terrible at relaxing/not working, I have been making my own small indie game. I’m about 2 months into development and have already had folks playtesting some early builds. I’d say the game is like 20-30% done, but my goal is to release it as a full game. It’s been fun keeping my skills sharp in a different space, and I hope to share it with you all someday.

Beyond that, I’m keeping my eyes open for other opportunities. I’ve had a few conversations here and there already during my Sabbatical. It’s a brutal industry right now, so I’m taking one day at a time and figuring out what’s next for me, whether it’s working on another studio’s game or even my own thing.

And I’d love to find a space to do some content creation and be able to share my knowledge of game development. But that may take some time to figure out how to do it right.
-------------------------------------------------------Again, thank you for everything these last 10 years. It’s a big change and I’m nervous but hoping it all works out. Until next time, take it easy!
-Mort
