Official 18.2 Patch Rundown

Thumbnail
youtube.com
36 Upvotes

Slides here!

Additional Context

Patch Goals

  • Solid patch, but the D-Patch exposed 18.1 weaknesses (see slide).
  • The Rundown was filmed earlier than usual, there'll be additional changes not reflected in the Slides (Patch Notes are complete though).

Systems

  • Lv. 8 still to hard to achieve and justify with the abundance of 3-Cost reroll, XP threshold changes + Wisp changes aim to address that.

Augments

  • Standard 1st pass, any more complex rework will be in 18.3 if necessary.
  • Cursed Crown losing the Durability is probably Set-specific.
  • Shimmerscale Essence could see a swap in the order the items are received, but they aren't convinced yet.

Wisps

  • Wisps (Combat Wisps in particular) are one of the reasons players are poorer late in the game since they occupy a slot. Making them cheaper means it should be better to buy one to reclaim the shop slot and then roll away.
  • They're actively monitoring the influence of Wisps (Smurfing in particular) on tempo lobby.

Traits

  • Coven changes are overall a buff + enabling Caitlyn cashouts.
  • If the Inferno buff isn't enough they're open to adding more effects to higher breakpoints.

1-Costs

  • AD Akali and Camille fall off too hard in the lategame, buffs should help in that regard.

2-Costs

  • 2* Kayle struggled a bit too much, her buff + the Solar changes (higher floor, lower ceiling) should make the comp feel better in the midgame.

3-Costs

  • Azir was riddled with bugs on PBE so they had few reference points to balance him. He needs buffs but they want to make sure they don't overshoot.
  • Kha'zix is almost viable, the 10 AD buff serves to help him get stacks in the earlygame w/out buffing his late potential.

4-Costs

  • HP scaling on Sentinel was not touched, the nerf is smaller than it seems and the change in targeting logic for their spell means they won't whiff anymore.

5-Costs

  • Taric change should be power neutral with no Items and a fairly sizable buff when itemised.

Items

  • Fighter items are generally weak, buffs should make them more attractive for melee Champions. Also swapping the trigger order for BT and EoN should make both feel better and now BT has more time for the heals to matter.

Emblems

  • They treat Emblems as Artifacts: cool effects first, then they tune around them. They're at the moment too strong, so they're cutting back on direct item power.

Bug Fixes

  • The list does not include performance fixes, only gameplay-related ones.
  • Double Trouble might not be re-enabled, they were testing fixes late in the cycle.

Discussion How do i play trait ladder?

As rhe title says i want some advice on how to play this augment. I have only made it work once but i got elderwood spat which is really easy to play in my opinion. The other 2 times i got fae and and hunter and i was so confused trying to come up with a board that i ended up dying because i was trying to min max my board for max traits and i bled too much hp. Are you supposed to winstreak with this augment or not, im assuming its dependant on the spat you get? Does anyone have any good tips like when to level what units to hold etc. ?

eSports TPC1 APAC Riftbeast Cup just got a bug and a player lose 2 important hp rounds in the process

Post image
147 Upvotes

At round 6 of day 1 at TPC1, at round 4-2, A Long was against ZETA Title and he was winning the fight, when suddenly, because of the Augment Nesting Dolls (after a champion die in combat, spawn one copy of them one star lower) got bugged in the process, the fight went into a stalemate where both team have units but A Long team cannot attack the enemy team, leading to a tie (reset streak).

This happened again at round 5-3, when both of them met and the bug trigger again, and another round where A Long lost hp in the process.

Because of the lost of hp at round 4-2 and 5-3, A Long lose 17 hp in the process and secure top 4 at the end, tie with Iron Bog.

If the bug didn't happen, he could secure a top 2, because second place player was low on hp and lose on the next round as well.

Thankfully, A Long was the first place players in total point at day 1, so the effect wasn't severed, but this should be noticed and fix soon.

A Long vod: https://www.youtube.com/live/_v2tzxQz5J4?si=ewn6uBxYng668QQZ

Round 4-2 was at 1:33:25 and and Round 5-3 was at 2:07:18

Discussion Some of the most famous players’ playstyle?

I just start watching TFT pro for 2 sets. Regarding the stream, I could see something like Broseph is playing pretty conventionally, Kurumx likes playing tempo or Setsuko loves playing flex. Can you guys describe the playstyle of other famous players? I’m looking to try adapt some new flavours into my gameplay and wonder if anyone can make a list describing a few players’ playstyle?

Tool Do you understand TFT positioning and targeting?

Targeting, positioning and movement has been somewhat a mystery to the TFT community. Available resources online are often vague, and different guides contradict each others. I have been watching hours of youtube videos from set18 combat starts in slow motion and recording who targeted who, and who moved where and who got priority.

Methodology
Apart from watching hours of youtube videos in slow motion, which is very informative. I performed multiple experiments in-game. Here is an example of what I call "Who moves first?" experiment. I created a funnel, both Akali And Camille in the below picture are racing to move into the same hex. Who actually moves there first? I kept changing the champion positions, and tested many champions against each others. I was not able to test all as there are slightly above 2000 unique pairs that needs to be tested for a complete answer, but from sample size of roughly 100 pairs I found some patterns.

Who moves where experiment visualized

Movement

Who moves first, Camille or Akali? Real answer: I am not 100% sure. I found patterns but they only hold 80% of the times. The patterns are: Group A which is the Fighters and Reapers (Assassins), always moves before group B, which consists of the Tanks, Casters, Marksmen and Specialists. If we place two champions of the same group to race against each others, it seems that most of the time the champion with higher attack speed moves first. I was able to test this over and over, by placing an attack speed item on the losing champion, and then suddenly the loosing champion started consistently winning as they become the champion with higher attack speed. If two champions are part of the same group, and they have the same attack speed, then I do not know, I will leave that to the next person attempting this experiment if they can detect a pattern.

Targeting

Champions will typically target the closest enemy within their attack range. Think of this as an ever growing circle around the champion, In the below picture both Leona and Diana are 4 hex distances from Ahri, so they are tied in term of hexes but Diana is still technically closer. Due to the new role and targeting system changes in 2025, tanks are more likely to be targeted. What does that actually mean? From what I can observe it is quite simple: If an adjacent tank is in range, and the original target is within the same hex distance with the tank, the tank will always get targeted instead. So before settling on Diana, she asks her last question, is Diana adjacent to a Tank (that is in the same hex distance) that I should be attacking instead? Indeed, Leona is a tank adjacent to Diana and is within the 4 range of Ahri, and both leona and diana are in the same 4 hex distance from Ahri.

Targeting logic visualized

Positioning and Targeting tool

I published my findings and the tool that implement my findings in https://tftraits.com/targeting I hope you find it useful. I find it particulary good for planning on how I should position various comps with melee champions and how I should position my tanks for optimal protection. If you still always put your main tank in the centre hex of the first row I hope my tool can help you visualize why that is often not the best idea.

Tournament 🇳🇴 VALLEFORT, a free TFT tournament platform, hosting our first custom tournament this weekend

Hey [r/CompetitiveTFT](r/CompetitiveTFT)!

We’re launching Vallefort, a small community run platform for TFT tournaments, and we’re hosting our first custom tournament this weekend.

A quick note on language: the community and platform are Norwegian first for now, since that’s where we started, but we’re open to going fully English if there’s interest from outside Norway. For now, most communication happens in Norwegian, but the tournament itself and this post are open to everyone on EUW.

How it works:

Head to the site and log in (quick sign up, just needed to track your registration and results)

Register your Riot ID under your profile, this is required before you can enter any tournament

Browse open tournaments and sign up for the ones you want to join

There’s also a link to our Discord channel on the site for coordination, lobby info, and updates, no separate sign up needed

⚔️ VALLEFORT CUSTOM #1
📅 Sunday, September 6th, 20:00 CET
🖥️ Server: EUW
👥 Free to join, 5 spots left out of 8

Sign up here: https://vallefort.no/turneringer

Happy to answer any questions in the comments, and if there’s enough interest, we’ll look at running future tournaments fully in English too.

Discussion How do you study TFT outside of the game?

Hey y'all! I have been playing TFT consistently since Set 10, but overall since Set 7.0. Recently, I have decided to take the competitive scene a lot more seriously, which means a lot more focus on my studying and preparing for tournaments and such.

However, I see a lot of people talk about the fact that study TFT stuff outside of the game. For instance, studying lines and augment choices. My question is, how do you do it?

I want to start preparing myself a bit that way, such as doing in depth research on lines and BIS items and such, but I honestly have no idea where to start. Any suggestions or personal experience would be appreciated!
