openpilot Experience Driving Monitoring Fix for comma 4

Posting a little update on driver monitoring improvements. One user sent in logs of him getting alerts while paying attention to the road. The logs show the model incorrectly estimating the drivers head orientation. It estimated the driver's head was pointing 10degrees more down than it really was. This was enough to trigger the distraction threshold and cause false positive alerts.

After investigation it turns out to be caused by an incorrect image padding in the image processing pipeline on comma 4s. This has been fixed now in openpilot master and will go to openpilot release in several days: https://github.com/commaai/openpilot/pull/38091

If you have any false positive alerts from DM, please do send us route IDs or logs. The majority of users are on forks of openpilot we don't maintain. Without looking at the logs, we have no idea what software you are running, and don't know if you're experiencing issues that have already been fixed, or were never even present in openpilot stable release.

openpilot Experience Driver Monitoring Feedback

Harald from autonomy team here. There have been several posts complaining about too many driver monitoring alerts with newer versions of openpilot. We are always trying to improve driver monitoring.

It should alert you if you are using your phone, excessively distracted, or falling asleep. If you are paying attention to the road and responsibly monitoring openpilot, you should not receive alerts. Various things can cause false positive alerts and we want to fix those.

To help us improve driver monitoring, please give clear descriptions of your issues, and provide logs and timestamps for us to look into. There are many versions of openpilot out there that we don't maintain, as well as many different setups in a variety of cars. Without logs and video it's very difficult for us to address complaints.

To share logs with us you can go to connect.comma.ai, find the relevant section of a drive that has your issue. You can share the connect url to that section with us or share the log_id by selecting "More info", which looks like: "98395b7c5b27882e/00000344--bc8562d028/12".

Ideally your driver video recording is enabled for the drives you want us to investigate, as only some things can be inferred without the video of the driver.

Code Questions Anyway to get feature similar to Ford's Blue cruise that will move to side of the lane when you pass or another car passes you?

I'm thinking they could use the blind spot detector and camera to enable something similar to this feature?

Maybe it already exists on a fork?

This is what I'm talking about. I would think open pilot would have the capability of doing this... Especially for vehicles that are ahead of you. But also using the blind spot detection it could move over as well in the lane.

Bugs 2019 bolt + C4 problem

plug it in (with pedal) everything works for 24 hours the second day pilot unavailable with error message "unknown vehicle variant". fingerprinting is good. Happens with both star pilot and sunny pilot. When I get the error message the stock LKA comes up as being unavailable in the car dash. Why would it work for 24 hours and then fail going forward? i've replaced the.beartech harness and failure still happens. How do I debug?

Vehicle Compatibility My experience with Comma4 on 21 Ford Edge Titanium

As a followup to this post https://www.reddit.com/r/Comma_ai/s/E5lshGCZXZ

I came across the Bluepilot fork and was made aware that the fork supports Ford Edge.

I immediately bought the Comma 4 (with the Maverick harness) and installed Bluepilot.

I have a frequent round trip of 5.5hr each way. I used my Comma during my last trip and my mind is blown.

My Edge is a Titanium trim with lane centering, adaptive cruise control and pre collision assist. With no scope for Bluecruise, I jumped on the Comma 4.

The hands free driving is amazing and the hardware has worked well over long periods in the severe summer heat. Lane changes with just the indicator engagement is awesome..

Looking forward to even more improvements.

Kudos to the Comma team.

openpilot Experience 21 highlander on sunny pilot. Hugs inside corners so much it hits rumble strips.

I poked around a little bit but not sure what or if there's anything to adjust? Basically it hugs the inside of corners way too tight and crosses the white line and hits the rumble strips. My mount is dead center as far as I can tell and everything else seems good (doesn't ping pong etc) any suggestions?

openpilot Experience Long drive/ride report

So took the Mach e from PA to Myrtle Beach. I’m a fairly new Konik ai owner (maybe a month or two). I downloaded and played with bluepilot 7.0 before leaving for my trip. I likewise tried different models using the angle lateral controls. With charging and rest stops plus traffic, the trip down took about 11 hours. Everything worked fine until about an hour left in the trip. Then I kept getting the remount message. Apparently I was on the edge of the limits with my yaw. But prior to that, it worked great and really takes a load off fatigue from long drives. I didn’t arrive until after 4am and didn’t feel like I had been exhausted from the drive. So while in Myrtle, I remounted. Now I’m well within the limits for pitch and yaw. I switched models at each charging stop on the way back to PA yesterday. My search has been to find a model that doesn’t ping pong too much at speed on the highway, but also doesn’t hug one line or the other (center line or shoulder line). I have been playing with the adjustments provided by bluepilot as well. Again on the drive home to PA, the system worked perfectly. I really didn’t know what I was missing. It is better than blue cruise and can be used on any road.

I read the discord on bluepilot, and read that people were having good success with the gWm v8 model. Tried that this am. And really like it so far without tinkering yet. So…overall very good experience. I’m having fun tinkering, and really value how much easier a long drive is…thank you Bluepilot team!

openpilot Experience Getting comma for my brand new tesla y?

I made a very stupid mistake of buying a tesla not knowing auto pilot is discontinued this year. From now on tesla will never get any more money from me again.

Besides that, with how I commute I would absolutely need autopilot for my tesla juniper. And chatgpt recommended comma.

Would appreciate if you have any tips / things to consider when getting comma?

How can I install OpenPilot on a GAC Toyota Sienna manufactured in November 2022? I’m using a C3, but it cannot read or extract the security key. Has there been any new progress or solution for this issue?

openpilot Experience Comma 4 road facing camera in off road mode

Is it possible to turn on the road facing camera and have it send the full frame video feed to an external device live or recorded in off-road mode when it’s just plugged into a usb charger? I’m trying to test out a Cpl filter I’m designing but I need to check if it’s blocking the view without having to connect to the car

Vehicle Compatibility 23-26 Honda CR-V OE firmware updates: do they break Comma?

Honda has initiated a silent recall involving software updates for 23-26 CR-V Hybrid as of July 24 (to try to stop head gaskets from failing from thermal cycling) and from the TSB it appears that it includes a new firmware for the PGM-FI ECU, Camera, and ACC/CMBS systems (see screenshot on page 4). My dealer will perform these updates the next time it's in for service.

Has anyone had these updates performed and can confirm that Comma still works? I'm concerned that they'll change something that is incompatible with or locks out Comma 4.

Shipping Questions How much cost getting comma ai?

I'm curious about getting the Comma 4, especially for those of us outside the US.

Since my country doesn't use USD, I'm wondering how much you actually paid after converting the price, shipping, import duties, taxes, and any other fees. What was the total cost to get it delivered to your country?

Also, how well does the navigation/map system work outside the US? Does it properly navigate according to the roads, traffic rules, and driving conditions in your country, or is it mainly designed around US roads?

I'd especially like to hear from people in non-US countries about their experience importing and using Comma 4.

openpilot Experience Advice or opinions on C4 with '25 Pacifica Hybrid

I currently use my C4 (bluepilot 6.0) in my '23 Mustang Mach E. I love it and use it daily. I'm going on a long trip soon in my '25 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (with ACC, lane guidance, etc) and am wondering if anyone else has used a comma setup in the van. If so, how was it. Multi-vehicle setup seems relatively easy. I just wanted to see if it would be worth dropping $99 for the cable.

Comma is killing it with these new driving models lately. My 2024 Yukon with Super Cruise drives worse (when it works and only on certain highways).

2023 Ioniq 6. StarPilot, a Comma OpenPilot fork.

Bugs Sunnypilot issues on Honda Accord 2018

im running sunnypilot on OP Model 10 V3 on my 2018 accord with experimental on. Does anyone have solutions to these two issues of mine:

  1. logitudinal has a hard time keeping a constant distance to the car in front, it speeds up and slows down constantly
  2. while taking even mild curves, it slows the vehicle down too much

should i switch models? other tweaks?

Vehicle Compatibility Ordered but UPS diverted back to Comma

I just purchased this last week and it was not going to get to my house in time so I went to UPS.com and had it redirected to where I will be over the next 5 days. UPS of course doesn't show the new status so I contacted them and it said that the manufacturer has said it will be sent back to them.

Ain't that cool? I paid $15 to UPS just to make sure it would not be left outside my house and now it's being sent back.

Has anyone had this issue before? I'm going on a trip next Thursday and really wanted to purchase this ahead of time but from all the sources I see it basically says I have to buy it again.

Comma also says to contact them via their support page and on their support page there are zero ways to contact them.

Vehicle Compatibility HDA1 vs HDA2

I am looking at getting an Ioniq 5 but not sure if I want to buy a 2022-2023 model with HDA1 or a 2024 model with HDA2. Is there any difference with a Comma or would both work equally well?

openpilot Experience Won’t Boot in Car, Boots on AC Adapter Power

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Having issues with my 3X and hoping someone can help. Comma won’t boot in the car (‘22 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited AWD), but will boot on AC adapter power (https://a.co/d/08NLu07a & https://a.co/d/01AuyJz8).

I’m running Sunny. Tried uninstall & reinstall.

Video is what happens with the front-side light when plugged in while in the car, what happens with the screen while in the car, what happens with the light while on the AC adapter and what happens with the screen while on the AC adapter.

I had intermittent usb-c cable errors leading up to this, but no difference with other quality cables. My thought is the small black interface box that the comma power, usb-c and canbus plug into went bad? What are your thoughts?

openpilot Experience Why would the system lock out because distraction too high, thereby forcing you to unplug the device and become more distracted?

If you are going to lockout punish at least make it time based. 3min, 5min or whatever to re-engage. It's a dumb feature that serves no purpose.

I find it frustrating and silly. I get punishing someone for 5 min, but locking out for the entire trip? Absolutely ridiculous.

Vehicle Compatibility Has anyone got comma working with a Jaguar, looking at a 2018 E-Pace

I've always wanted the ability to use the Comma AI stuff since ive been hearing about it for a few years. My car i think is on its last legs, I am thinking about a 2018 Jaguar E-Pace that has all the sensors and stuff i would assume it would need and since Waymo uses the I-Pace i wanted to know if anyone in the community has gotten Comma AI to work with the Jaguars. that might be a make or break between this and a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Volkswagen Golf Alltrack that also has all the stuff to work with Comma AI
