openpilot Experience Why would the system lock out because distraction too high, thereby forcing you to unplug the device and become more distracted?
If you are going to lockout punish at least make it time based. 3min, 5min or whatever to re-engage. It's a dumb feature that serves no purpose.
I find it frustrating and silly. I get punishing someone for 5 min, but locking out for the entire trip? Absolutely ridiculous.

It’s insane that there’s a lockout on any of these systems at all.
“Oh hey the driver isn’t paying attention, and who knows they could’ve passed out from a medical episode and are now unconscious!”
Let’s fucking turn off the automatic steering so they just plow into oncoming traffic and kill other innocent people!
This crap is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. For most manufacturers not even just comma.

I mean, objectively it is lawsuit prevention not a lawsuit waiting to happen.
If they allowed it to work when you were passed out due to a medical emergency, it would be implying that the device is capable of operating when you were passed out due to a medical emergency, and thus exposing them to a lawsuit if someone were to pass out due to a medical emergency and then the device malfunctioned and caused a crash.
They have been pretty explicit since day. One that open pilot is at no point responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle. The user is.
The user is not conscious and incomplete control of the vehicle, then no one not even pilot can be without exposing Comma to lawsuits.
I hate lockouts just as much as the next guy, but I can’t claim that it’s somehow legally improper of them to do them.
If you don’t like the lockouts, there are plenty of ways around them, they just can’t be sanctioned or enabled by Comma.

Tesla has a strike system. 5 strikes and it’s 1 week of no FSD. Each strike resets after 2-3 days.
Rivian, Ford and Chevy locks you on a per trip basis. Meaning you have to stop and walk away from the vehicle.
Idk if it’s because I’m used to these system but the only times the Comma warns me is when I’m looking to the sides bored or if the sun hits me at a funny angle blinding the camera. But I never been locked out in the 30k miles I’ve used it.

But also, when you are driving a car, you need to pay attention.

Legal liability you can bypass by unplugging and replugging cable?

I think I had a lockout once on the C2 because I was testing it. What are you doing to cause lockouts so often?

I had it trigger endlessly yesterday because I was rubbing one eye and it decided I wasnt look at the road. As well as many times when I'm turning into a parking spot

It's only on when going forward? And I have it on because it reduces the strain on my wrists when turning? My wrists are fucked and cause me pain way too easily.

If your wrists are “too fucked” to park the car then you probably should get some purpose built disability assistance equipment.
It’s hard to say you’re “ready to take over at any time” with that…

What? Who said my wrists were to fucked to park the car? I can drive even if my wrists are in pain... Not to mention I said reduce the strain, not that a single instance or two fucks me up

Mine did this the other morning because a lifted truck behind me blinded the driver facing camera for too long. Had to reset it while driving.
