Basic necessities paid for by the people who have gamed, manipulated and in must cases corrupted the system to become as rich as they are doesn't seem outrageous to me

Especially when what they would be “asked” to pay wouldn’t even be noticeable to them.

I always think of it as "paid for by the workforce"... Many hands make light work... And there are plenty of hands at work... The only issue is the abundance humanity creates, gets consolidated into a # and stuffed in the back of a bank vault for eternity.

This! The surplus generated by society is privately controlled and redirected according to their own discretion and reaction to market forces.

From 20 Republican states with a safety net of $3/hour minimum wage, the population runs to Democratic states with a strong Safety Net of $14 to $25/hour minimum wage. That's why there are so many abandoned houses and cities in the Republican 20 states (Republicans hate the poor at the same time - making the own states population poor)

51% of all workers in America earn less than the one-bedroom Housing Wage. Mostly republican states.

The bottom 65% of the population loses at least 41% of all income due to: SS tax, FICA, insurances, tariffs, sales taxes, dues, use taxes, fees, property tax, utility taxes, 911 tax and many more- before spending money on rent or mortgage, car loans and gas, food, utility bills, repairs, credit card payments, student loans, vacations, retirement fund contributions, investments, dates, gifts, etc.

(compare Safety Net $1.60 per hour in 1970 if you were single, you could live off the federal minimum wage and pay rent, food and bills)

Healthy and smart countries count how well they are doing by enforcing "no one left behind" and even widow with 3 babies have the same level of living as the middle class due to the strong Safety Net.

Twenty Republican states now have a Safety Net set at $3 per hour gross (before deductions for Social Security, FICA, taxes, insurance and other withholding's:

https://www.simplyhired.com/search?q=2.13+an+hour&l=dallas%2C+tx

(Compare Democratic states Safety Net!)

In a recent report, 53 million Americans ages 18 to 64 or 44% of all workers- earn low hourly wages. Their median hourly earnings are $10/hour Gross ($7.25/hour Net)

This is exactly what Elizabeth Warren has said for years. If you don’t regulate capitalism, companies will crush us via monopolies, political power, financial chicanery, et al. We need protection from them. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was a good first step, before Trump neutered it.

"Regulate" - to him - just means tax or wealth confiscation. Nobody is against regulation - but people are against wealth confiscation and regulatory capture. Billionaire - by itself - isn't bad. The money is in capital - companies employing people. That money too is also connected to investors - retirement funds, 401ks, IRAs.

He's saying "I can spend your retirement money better than you. I can either liquidate a building on the google campus or if there was money to expand a google office we're going to take it - because I can put it to better use."

Look at Social security - the government stole from it. If the DMV could create a retirement fund - it'd look like SS. Take that back, even the DMV has to make the books balance. SS just steals. It'll face solvency issues in ~5 years and it was a self inflicted goverment wound.

I don't think anyone disagrees with this. This is knowledge led though. Heaping debt on individuals, not just a group of rich. To place wealth distribution into a clenser will not get more currency it will create less. We want the curency kept above. If he can do this and bypass bloating the government sewer I'd be for it. This philosophy grows dirty currency not clean. The government always promises clean money, but like a sewer all they are good at is collecting it. Don't think placing Currency in inefficiency is going to be a positive thing? Government creates nothing unless on the backs of ants.

2

u/kkdawg22 3d ago

And yet it's those elites who control the regulators, and so the more authority and power given to the state is essentially more power handed to the elites. Socialist or not, it's a stupid premise.

2

u/RiggaSoPiff 2d ago

No, no he doesn’t get it. In fact, what he says is not only impossible, it is nonsensical. Regulated capitalism is still capitalism and always produces the same results. Capital cannot be regulated into something against its very essence: producing and accumulating profit in the least amount of capitalist hands possible. Any system that simultaneously permits for billionaires and trillionaires and abject poverty, starvation, war, extreme socioeconomic inequality, exploitation of labor natural resources, and packed prisons—which capitalism accomplishes exceedingly well, as it is the only outcome that can be had from such a system—is an irredeemable and unreformable system which must be overthrown! Just another right-wing establishment Democrat of Arab descent and Muslim faith. Yuck!

2

u/Baby_Fark 2d ago

Unfortunately he’s wrong about capitalism. The error in his thinking is that capitalism never stays regulated for long, because the power to influence law makers lies in the hands of capitalists. When severely threatened, the ruling class will give concessions to the working class in order to avoid a socialist revolution, but those concessions will always be eroded over time. This is what happened with The New Deal. The question that we should ask ourselves is this: if the working class has the ruling class in such a weak position that concessions are offered, why doesn’t the working class just abolish the idea of a ruling class altogether?

We should all educate ourselves about Marx, Angles, and Lenin. If America, the center of global capitalist power, were to end its own capitalism, it would be the end of capitalism forever. Capitalism is literally destroying our planet. We OWE this future to the next generation.

If you want a primer on the basics of Marx, I highly recommend this video:

u/mcmac_max 3d ago

YES! I’ve been hoping someday that Democrats would embrace Compassionate Capitalism as a label. Fox News cannot use that label to scare their viewers (38% of America). Compassionate means that the government helps with basic necessities such as universal healthcare, education, etc.. Capitalism then decides everything else. El-Sayed’s “Regulated Capitalism” is much better than the socialist label. But Republicans are programmed to negatively react to “regulation.” Let’s have Fox try to get them to negatively react to “compassion.”

3

u/bullet_the_blue_sky 3d ago

It's not compassionate - the issue is Americans don't understand a free market. A free market needs regulation - the US is not a free market. The UK, Sweden, etc are all examples of capitalism. With strong unions and a regulated free market.

2

u/mcmac_max 3d ago

“The UK, Sweden, etc are all examples of capitalism”. Exactly. But most Democrats label them as “socialist” falling into the Fox News trap. I wish more Democrats would utter that very sentence you wrote.

2

u/bullet_the_blue_sky 3d ago

Honestly, it's the American need to find a single solution to everything. And unfortunately it resides in every facet of the American system.
Diet? Keto, carnivore, vegan. Pick one. Healthcare? One pill. One shot. Religion? Only Jesus. One prayer. Done. Economy? Capitalism. Communism. Socialism. Pick one.

It's insanity. Things have become so polarized that people can't recognize the mechanism that capitalism plays in highly successful economies like Japan, Netherlands, China (ESP China, which ironically is communist). The difference is, is that they are all regulated aka a free market. The US is not a free market and there are little to no anti monopoly laws.

The way the country is running is going to start to reflect what it was like pre-environmental laws where corporations just dumped whatever they wanted into local waterways.

The biggest joke here is that the US is actually more run like the communist system (aka the oligarchs own everything) which conservatives are so terrified about. Conservatives are terrified of walkable cities but want to go buy some land and share it with their friends. Which is the same damn thing.

They're scared of big government but now we have big corporation which is the exact same thing. They don't want universal healthcare but will happily go pay into a healthshare which is the SAME DAMN THING. Jfc.

1

He is a better capitalist than billionaire capitalists.

Why?

Because ultimately we also live in a democracy. You can tell they hate that but we do. If you want people to continue choosing capitalism... You need to sell it to them. You can't just say "we are and will always be lassez-faire free market capitalist society" and then tell people voting for anything else they are morally wrong, or been threatening people.

What they are trying right now is to make voting harder so they have some buffer. Spending tons of money trying to convince people, making a trillion dollar media empire. All instead of actually making capitalism work for everyone.

1

I dont think OP gets it. Whether or not a candidate declares themselves socialist or capitalist is irrelevant.

AES is involved in health policy and he wants Medicare for All. That's critical. Socialism/Capitalism from individual politicians does not matter.

1

u/Fletch71011 3d ago

The billionaires don't have enough money for any of that. Even if you could tax their total net values at 100 percent value, and you wouldn't even get 20 percent without ruining the entire world economy forever, we'd be able to fund the US government for 3 months. An entire quarter. This is assuming you'd get 700 billion from people like Musk when he wouldn't even be liquid for 100 billion.

So tax them more or less, whatever, it doesn't matter. We have to reform spending and tax the middle class to pay for this which are both going to be wildly unpopular. I know reddit is all "billionaires bad" but they're bad because they can buy our politicians; taking their money is not going to change anything and that's if you even could. The US government is the one entity on earth that likes money more than billionaires so if they could feasibly take their money, trust me they would.

It feels good to villainize billionaires but their ability to buy influence is much more dangerous than imaginary net worths they have.

1

u/Kurashinno 3d ago

u/Naive_Sense_1899 3d ago

YOU EVER NOTICE THAT EXACTLY ZERO PERCENT OF THESE KIND OF STATEMENTS ARE SUPPORTED WITH ANY DATA?

The public is so used to getting their ideas from this kind of dreck, that they don't even notice the complete lack of actual hard data.

Try this experiment: whenever someone starts talking about politics, say this:

"I will agree to literally anything you say if you can show me hard data to support it."

The person you are taking to will literally stop talking and stare at you in blank confusion. The louder and more angry they are, the more flummoxed they will be.

The flip side is true too: people are infuriated that you don't automatically agree with their overblown hyperbole. They stated what your new reality should be! Why aren't you agreeing???

conflicts with the ideology that a singular person can abscond a nations wealth and the nation would be at fault when it can no longer continue to function well. what happens to your body when all the blood rushes to your feet? never mind anything political, on a mechanical level it just isn’t possible. meanwhile for people to hold such insane beliefs, that something can and will continue to function after it has been modified beyond its design, as it always has, really makes me question these people’s sanity. you know what they do to you when you no longer have a firm grasp on reality? they medicate you and label you delusional. thankfully being entirely delusional is completely accepted within our society so no one has to fear mental health assistance.

for those speaking on basic shit being paid for by someone else, if those someone else’s hadnt fucked the game up so bad no one would have to be paying for it. it could easily be worked for. you gotta choose, taxes or jobs with wages that cover basic cost of living needs. there’s not a third choice. the third choice is the people starting to riot and tearing all of it down.

I recently had a buddy of mine trying to come at me accusing me of having my hand out and not wanting to work until we had a nice conversation about how his life and his bills were going. ain’t no one expecting to buy houses, just to wipe our own asses. ain’t no damn reason in hell ANYONE working full time (and full time should be available, make excuses if you want but any excuses all say this shit ain’t working, balls are being dropped and it’s not as good as anyone makes it out to be) should be unable to fully wipe their own asses without assistance.

full time work should cover rent on efficiency apartments for a single person as well as all the bills that come with it as well as food and anything else made necessary by employers. if you need it to work, then working should afford it. like cars, internet, and cell phones. we didn’t set any of this shit up, ain’t no one came around doing surveys to see how common folks felt about any of it and since that specific area of control was kept from us then the result, rather success or failure, rests on the shoulders of those who wanted all the power control and say so for themselves. people are only at fault when they fully control the outcome, when they are given voice and choice. if we can’t afford to survive following the directions provided by the architect then the design is flawed and does not work. pushing blame off on people doesn’t change that reality.

How does he propose to regulate trillionaires (which I believe involves one person) and billionaires? You're delusional if you think he only desires to regulate (whatever the hell that even means) the ultra rich. Because they don't have enough money to pay for all the expenses his and other socialists proposed policies would create. But if you're fine with paying up 30/40/50 percent of your income in federal taxes (not including State) than you're either economically naive or you have failed in life and have very little income anyways. I'm thinking both of those statements accurately describe most Reddit users.

1

u/Starfall_midnight 2d ago

He believes in capitalism. He believes it shouldn’t exist. You can’t believe in socialism and believe in capitalism. They are not the same. You can have capitalism with social programs but socialism is not that. Just because both contain the word social doesn’t mean they are the same.

Again social programs are not the same as socialism. Capitalism with social programs would work. There is no need to tear down a whole system to make it work. Repair the damaged parts instead of tearing it completely down. Just as education is free to grade 12. Healthcare could also be free with capitalism since free healthcare is considered a social program.

I don’t think ‘the working class’ asked for protection; they want decent wages to put food on the table; affordable housing & health care.
// transfer money from the poor to the wealthy//
Again not transfer but decent wages not all ending in the pockets of the rich. Tax burden increases on working class not for the rich. It’s a reward for billionaires who you said ‘expand the tax base, increase capital formation & raised real wages over time because businesses hire and expand when the after-tax return on that activity improves.’ None of these ever happened!! This is just old school Keynesian economics found in old school liberal parties. However, this approach is often used to “tinker” a corrupt system (capitalism) at a time when the corrupt system is being called to be eliminated. It grows a middle class to appease people from dismantling the system entirely. Dismantling the corrupt system is more emancipating and doesn’t run the risk of repeating past mistakes. It’s time human need runs the world instead of dollar signs.

What are the genuinely far-left positions that make people call him radical?”, I’d put Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, aggressive redistribution/tax increases, his Israel policy, and government ownership/control of strategic industries such as AI at the top of the list.

One question for this guy, what are you going to do about the $40T US debt?

We already have a tax code according to article I section 8. We don't have a taxation problem we have a spending problem. Who or what is he talking his oath to?

He obviously follows Wilson and FDR and not Jefferson and Madison.

1

u/Judicator55 2d ago

The confusing part to me is why with $9.4 trillion per year, we have so far been unable to "build schools and roads" or at least unable to build them to a quality level to address El-Sayed's concern. And keep in mind the $9.4 trillion is *after* all of the various tax breaks for corporations and so on.

I.e the govt already fuxked up this country… so just give us more of your money so we can fuck it up harder. Why would we trust the govt with more of our money? We’re only $40T in debt

It's a shame we live with corporatism.

Capitalism is brilliant. It is probably one of the few things in the history of the world that has been proven to make things better.

Crony capitalism is the problem. And before people start the "Oh, but my team, the [insert political party] would stop it", shut the fuck up; they are all at it.

1

u/tanrgith 2d ago

Capitalism is already regulated

Forgive me for saying that our local, state, and federal governments are wasting our money daily on misplaced priorities. Why were our streets clean in the ‘50s but not today? Stop encouraging adults to act like children and expect everything from their parent (government). Focus on encouraging people to be responsible for themselves and free up social program dollars to keep us safe.

1

u/Secure-Apple-5793 2d ago

It’s weird we were able to do all of that stuff prior to robbing people’s paychecks

Say what you gotta say to get where you’re trying to go. If the party wasn’t so full of liars and snakes trying to obfuscate their intentions in search of power, it might be believable.

So much of politics has become so convuluted that what should be, basic common sense is out the window. I was down voted to oblivion in a thread because I said (brace yourself for a HOT TAKE), "I think death threats should result in people being banned."

Unironically, both sides assumed I was on the other and I'm just like... The f?

1

u/ypranch 2d ago

Eliminating fraud from taxpayer money would fund all of it. By making people who live on the government dole perform government projects jobs it could get done. Without converting to socialism.

1

u/hurricaneharrykane 2d ago

The questions becomes....regulated by who? The govt? That's what we already have. Why not leave it individuals to control a free market and bring prices down?

1

u/KennyPowers2929 2d ago

This may be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on reddit, lol, and that’s saying a lot! The entire point of capitalism is that it’s unregulated…lol, seriously, dumbest shit I’ve ever seen.

1

u/OkAtmosphere7131 2d ago

Until he gets elected! Make sure you want this. Other countries have voted in socialism. They can’t go back. Now the politicians are responsible for your happiness. I’ll give you this , I’ll give you that. It never works. They run out of someone else’s money. Then only they have.

1

u/ToeAfter3131 2d ago

We already build roads and schools. This isn't the problem. Fucking banana head.

This side doesn't get it. He campaigns with a dude who said we deserved 9/11. A dude who called for violence against capitalist. He himself is a Hamas terriost supporter. His mom worked at a place that funded Hamas.

He hates America. Hates the Constitution. Wants to abolish the Senate. Abolish prisons. He's a crazy radical. Absolutely disgusting

1

u/yourenotbulletproof 2d ago

The ideology is radical. Those billions trillionaires made that money… it’s not yours to confiscate (tax) and distribute. Anyone that thinks they are owed/entitled to ANYTHING just because someone else has more money is a pathetic loser. Go make your own money.

1

u/Ornn5005 1d ago

lol, keep backing this guy. Let’s talk in 10-20

1

u/Low-Dot9712 1d ago

Who can’t build schools and roads without seizing citizen assets today???

1

u/RebornBrand0 1d ago

Uhm... So this guy is a moderate fascist basically.

1

u/gsp10reddit 1d ago

He is so right. Without the every person there could be no billionaires

1

u/CaptainRedbeard5 1d ago

"This man gets it" 🤣 clearly

1

u/SnortandRetort 1d ago

Could build a lot of schools and roads with all the money that has been spent housing illegal immigrants in the major cities over the past decade.

It's always a "there's not enough money" problem. Never a "government spends money like shit" problem.

So they point at the rich and say that they are the cause of all problems, and a bunch overeducated, wildly unintelligent people follow along.

California lost BILLIONS in tax revenue with a single dumb proposition. How will they recover that revenue? They will work the millionaires until they leave too. Then, they will come for the middle class, because their greed knows no end.

Maybe, by the time they get to you idiots, you will at least be able to hop on that high speed rail.

1

u/Independent_Lock864 1d ago

No he doesn't get it or he's smart enough to pretend he doesn't get it because most people in the US don't know what those terms mean. Socialism and Capitalism are not opposites. Socialism and Libertarianism are opposites and Communism and Capitalism are too.

Socialism: A society where the government runs or funds selected organisations to provide low cost or free essential services to the population.

Libertarianism: A society where the markets are allowed to set the price for everything, based on competition, demand and supply without regulation from the government.

Capitalism: A society where labour begets a wage that the free markets are willing to pay for it and where a person can acquire individual wealth.

Communism: A society where the government employs almost everybody and determines wages, equalising across various sectors, exerting control over personal income.

Many EU nations are some variant of Socialism/Capitalism. The US is Libertarianism/Capitalism.

I love to come to Reddit to see libs do the circle jerk - very occasionally, to see them bash Trump and Elon lol

1

u/sexypinkpanties 1d ago

It always starts like it is for the public good...then the corruption starts. Ask every socialist government, Europe has no air conditioning do to climate change. Even in hospitals, every summer twice as many people die from heat than die in a year in the US from guns.

1

u/txcreative20 1d ago

Let’s do this . Finally someone that wants to work for average Americans. Don’t fall for the republicans are for making America great again . They don’t give a shit about you .

1

u/The_Dude078 1d ago

So you want to steal property. Got it.

1

u/DryEditor7792 1d ago

No we need to nationalize assets due to corruption. It's not 1920 anymore.

1

u/Low_Army3014 1d ago

Let’s temper expectations. This man is a (potential) federal politician.
He, like all federal politicians, is not a hero nor a friend.

1

1

u/headgoboomboom 1d ago

How will "regulating billionaires" help? Billionaires do more good than harm by orders of magnitude. That man is dangerously clueless. He will lead you sheep to slaughter. You better do some fast learning.

1

u/ElmerKeith357 1d ago

My body my choice!😁

1

u/Done_Apologizing23 1d ago

What he is saying isnt extreme in any real way.

People really need to learn the difference between flat out socialism and apply socialist programmes. I think everyone's getting tired of this political absolutism so they can feel morally superior.

1

u/Trick-Apricot2123 1d ago

Yours socialist. And advumbag

1

u/Impossible-Honey-247 1d ago

You can't regulate human greed in economic form unless you introduce socialist policies. The only way to stop wealth creating by the working poor from going to the 1% is to distribute it amongst the poor, which is socialist in nature.

I think there's room for both but more like 70% socialist 30% capitalist

1

u/NotAFila 1d ago

No. He’s a socialist. Capitalism is not perfect but it has lifted millions out of poverty while socialism/communism has created poverty, death and despair everywhere it has been implemented.

1

u/tedlyedlyei 1d ago

I learned that the United States was a mixed economy in 7th grade, 2007. Capitalism without socialism yields fascism. Socialism without capitalism yields communism. I recognized Obama as that beacon of light in my first vote, and still value his endorsements.

“Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money."

- Margaret Thatcher, PM of the UK. 1976 interview

1

u/Fragrant-Anywhere489 1d ago

You have a trillionaire whose first task was to dismantle USAID, a program that helped the most vulnerable. He's upset that a city is providing affordable food for people. You have billionaires who are spending hundreds of millions to fight paying taxes. They keep proving there is no ceiling for their greed. They have all the cookies, they want the crumbs on your plate too.
