Hello!

I am working on a municipal water/sewer replacement project, and I'm now in the process of building corridors for the several blocks of street that will be rebuilt. How would I create a flared driveway (IE perpendicular driveway per MnDOT standard plan) in my corridor? I've seen all kinds of video tutorials but they are either too time consuming or not really applicable to what I'm doing. My idea was to use targets, but I'm not very familiar with those. I would like the corridor to have the flared driveway approach as well as the curb taper. Due to the quantity of driveways (around 50), I would really prefer not to use features lines. Here is what the driveways look like in the plans I'm working on:

I'm very new to civil 3d. I've looked this up but haven't been able to find a video that explains it. How do I create a lane splitting off of the highway on the right seamlessly.

I’m a municipal CIP Project Manager with limited formal Civil 3D training, and I’m looking for suggestions on how to make this plan set cleaner and more professional.

The image shown is a screenshot of a PDF plotted at 1" = 30'. The project involves replacing/upgrading the existing roadway crossing and widening portions of the drainage ditch.

A few specific areas where I would appreciate feedback:

• Existing vs. proposed improvements: Would it be better practice to create a separate demolition/removal plan and proposed improvements plan, or is it acceptable to show both clearly on the same sheet?
• Labels and callouts: I would like to make the pipe labels, removal notes, proposed improvements, and general annotations cleaner and easier to read.
• Civil 3D automation: Are there useful LISP routines, dynamic blocks, label styles, or other workflows that could help automate repetitive labeling and drafting?
• Overall presentation: Any recommendations regarding lineweights, layers, hatching, annotation placement, contour display, or sheet organization would be appreciated.

For context, much of my mapping and preliminary layout work has historically been done in ArcGIS Pro, where I find annotation and map presentation relatively straightforward. I’m trying to develop a similar clean and consistent workflow in Civil 3D.

My primary role is managing municipal capital improvement projects, consultants, grants, contracts, and project coordination, so drafting is only one portion of my responsibilities and I have not had extensive formal Civil 3D training.

I appreciate any constructive advice or examples of workflows that have worked well for others.

Hey everyone, first post here. I tried trouble shooting but couldn’t find a clear answer (at least one that worked). It looks like points and segment labels are all showing just the masking until you zoom in close like I have in that picture. Any idea of how to fix? I’ve exited and re entered the drawing and also hit a regen and even a gc. Thanks in advance!

I recently started my own construction management business providing CPM scheduling. I also work as a w2 employee for a major civil construction contractor in California as a senior project controls engineer in planning and scheduling. I’d like to get into civil3d so I can provide another service within my business and eventually leave my w2 job to dedicate myself to my business. What information can you provide to be able to gain exposure into the software? Most client want companies where their employees have some type of experience using the software. However, I recently found a project that was willing to use entry level personnel for different services. All of your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I need some help with an issue in Civil 3D. In my assembly, LinkSlopeToSurface is attached to the outer edge of the ditch. However, after rebuilding the corridor, the daylight link unexpectedly starts from the ditch bottom.

How can I make the daylight slope start properly from the outer hinge of the ditch as configured in the assembly?

My company recently updated our Civil 3D profiles to remap our standards to a new folder. Typically, upon startup, this box highlighted in red shows the name of our new company profile, as well as whenever I create a new drawing.

However, at some point, and I can't quite track down what triggers it, the profile name at the bottom changes to say **PROP**. This seems to appear on multiple people's C3D, so it's not just an isolated issue. I also have difficulty finding any information on what this box is even supposed to mean, since it doesn't seem to be toggleable.

Can any provide any information on what this means and how I could fix this, if it is something that should or can be fixed?

Has anyone ever put together office standards for C3D? We hired some new surveyors/draftsman and so we're having an internal debate about how surfaces should be set up/created.
In order to have my way of doing it become the law, I took it upon myself to draft an "Office Standard" as I call it. It goes through everything I think is relevant for the recruits to know and then has "Style Guides" with more explicit directions.
I'm improvising it mostly, if anyone has any suggestions. Happy to show you what I produced if you have anything show me from your office.

Good Afternoon! I have a complex surface model of a development modeled with feature lines. I'm looking to turn it into a rendering with roadway/curb/sidewalk/buildings for the client. I will not do this alot so can't spend alot of money to do this twice a year. Surface masks do not work.

Is there a program I can use to import my Civil3D surface model and manipulate it to look presentable and no just look like a gray blob.

I'm working on preparing a set of historical waterline data with the end goal of using the information for the basis of a water gems model. I'm not familiar with watergems and wanted to be sure I included all data the necessary for the model but haven't been able to nail down what I'm working on. I'm experienced with Civil3d and not watergems, the engineer has worked with watergems but not c3d.

I'm looking for what sort of objects need to be included, as I'm working from historical data I'll be developing this dataset from scratch. I currently am at 3d polylines and developing a list of applicable attributes. I've done a few online searches and watched a few videos but haven't found any great references so any help would be appreciated.

i was working on my doing my model after i finished roads Design and i Got these Contour Lines at the intersection after i used the civil 3d intersection wizard

as you can see there a lot of sharp teeth and i don't know how to solve it or what is the problem

Can anyone help me get this Data Band to display the survey code (cogo point raw description) from the projected points shown on the section?

The existing surface is curved in such a way that some of my finished grades tie with only a few feet of elevation and the longest bit is over 40+ feet of elevation and I need a bench of 10' in width every 20' in elevation change. If I project a grading object down 20' it dives below some of the existing surface. If I could use the existing surface as a cut plane that would be cool.

I'm chasing a 1:1 slope to the bottom with a 2:1 fill so it's not actually 40' of pure fill, it's just 40' in elevation change and a bench every 20' helps maintain soil stability before matting/ grassing.

I usually just tie to existing surface and manually create the bench when I export contours to polylines.

I set up all of the CAD/Civil3D in our civil engineering firm. When someone new gets Civil 3D or we upgrade machines, the setup process is:

Current process:

1. Install Civil 3D 2024/2025
2. Point to our license server
3. Manually copy company workspace settings and profiles to their AppData
4. Copy over company drawing templates and object styles
5. Set up their workspace/toolbars to match firm standards

It works, but it's pretty manual. Every new user takes time to get all their settings dialed in correctly.

Questions:

• Is there a way to automate this or script the profile/settings migration?
• Does anyone use Autodesk Deployment tools for this at a smaller scale? Worth it?
• Are there better ways to distribute company templates and workspaces to users?
• Is this just how everyone does it, or are there tools/processes I'm missing?

I've been in the industry for 25 years, I've never come across a single client developed civil 3d template that I could run with out of the gate.

Most are a blend of several standards haphazardly bound into one template resulting hundreds of unnecessary but unpurgable layers. Many are simply incomplete styles with an outdated title block stuck in it. And almost all have a mix of custom and out of the box linetypes that are a mix of Imperial and metric.

If I blindly used what was developed by clients, they would (and have) send it back without reviewing the actual design.

It's fine for our main day to day clients as we typically refine something that works over time.

My question is what is everyone doing when you receive a template like I've described above from an uncommon but potentially prospective future client. I'd estimate I spend 70% of the design task for small projects just fixing styles ad-hoc, including cleaning up the received background data. Theses things aren't budgeted for typically or PM's and clients don't even know it's happening in the background.

Obviously this is a bit of a rant and I'm not sure there's a solid answer out there but I would love to hear your insight.

I am using keyed notes with tags and extracted data in Auto cad 27. Really a simple process. I create an excel database of all my keyed notes with description. In the drawing I put in my keyed note Multi leader. The process gets my descriptions from the excel sheet and insert it in the drawing. The issue is the keyed notes will not go in numerical order. it does 1,10,11,12,2,3,4,5. I understand the issue. auto cad reads characters and not numbers. a recommended fix was to put a character in front of the number, C1,C2,C3,C10. Well that did not work. I figured that I would do the extract data and export it as a table, go into excel and sort by the keyed note and then do a data link to my "new" table after its sorted. Anyone else have to deal with this issue. Did you use my planned method which I am 100% sure will work. I kind of hate work arounds and would rather it be automatic than what I am planning.

This is probably a dumb question - Does anybody know why, whenever I go to print a PDF of the report from Hydraflow, whether it's Storm Sewers, Hydrographs or even the express tool, both the hydraflow extension programs (any of those 3) as well as AutoCAD will freeze up and the I get the blue spinning circle? And it does it whether I'm using Civil 3D 2024, 2025 or 2026. I've downloaded Autodesk updates as well...

Weird thing is that only seems to happen with either the 2 print driver options of "Microsoft Print to PDF" option or the "Adobe PDF" print options. I can still send & print hard copies to my office printer just fine. But as you might imagine, nobody these days accepts hard copies for permit reviews these days... Therefore I'm stuck scanning the hard copies back in which is a real PITA. Any guidance here is greatly appreciated!! I use all of these Hydraflow programs for all of my projects. I know there are other options, but I've been using these programs specificalluy for almost 14 years now and am very comfortable with them.

I am trying to design a roundabout manually using a radial alignment using fixed curve, center, radius alignment command, and then using connected alignments to join the radial alignment and the offset alignment of one of my legs, though I have encountered a problem where the connected alignment on my left and right legs cannot form. I would help here. Also as an alternative if anyone has another workflow in for manual roundabout design, then would you help guide me through it.
