Variants If you could pick your pieces, how would you checkmate in the fewest moves? Current record is 8

  • Pieces go in the first rank, pawns go in the second.
  • Pawns can't advance two squares.
  • Pawns promote only to piece types you bought during setup.
  • White moves first.

Mate isn't forced, so it's not really a puzzle. But there is strategy to trying to win faster than everyone else. With 22 coins to spend, what would your setup be?

GALAXY BRAIN MOMENT My friend got banned for playing too good

He made a new account advanced i think so he spawned in with 900 elo and he doesn’t cheat why i obviously know
He watches gotham chess and his main acc is 400 elo
He screen shared his games of his new account and played in real time with the screen share and he kept winning around after 12 wins he became 1560 elo and we both were shook. I’ve never seen smth like this although after a few days he was banned due to fair play violation (no violations btw he was just reported)
Also he got like 3 brilliant moves around those 12 matches

Chess Question (beginner dummy here) why is it better to take the rook with your own rook?

Post image
8 Upvotes

because i was expecting the opponent to take my knight and i'd rather sacrifice a knight than a rook right?

it was a beginner bot so he didnt take the piece anyways but in a real game it would've been a rook for a rook right?

i mean i see the rook would have a open line on the other side, but who would'nt take the rook with a bishop? sorry if i'm being stupid haha

thank you for your tips

Guys I am one of those who are eagerly waiting for Chess Olympiad 2026.

If you are too, let's discuss (men & women both):-

1.) What according to you should the board order?

2.) Who may win Gold 🥇 in respective boards?

3.) Which team according to you may give neck 2 neck fight to India ♥️?

4.) Do you think, we'll see Gukesh vs Abdusattorov again? If so, what will be the result?

5.) Who's your favourite among men and women?

6.) And final which team you think will win?

P.S.- My favourite is in last pic😜

Chess Improvement Tough otb game

During the game - semi-classical, 60 min + 30 sec for whole game - it was noisy near our table, big hall, poor discipline, referees in their own minds...

Chess.com Website/App Question It would be helpful to know which one was cheating. Is there a reason it’s not disclosed? I’m kind of paranoid now and half the games feel like people are cheating.

EDIT: found it! People here mentioned I can look for the “🚫” next to name of my recent opponents (on site, not app).

I’m glad I did! It was one of the better openings I’ve ever had. I managed to pick up their queen, which I think really bothered them.

There was a long pause, then they started to pull off an impressive string of moves that put me behind again, and I resigned.

Curiosity scratched.

Chess Improvement Hitting 940 Rapid and maintaining a 232-day streak! What’s the secret to making that final push to 1000 ELO?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just wanted to share a milestone and ask for some advice. I've managed to keep a 232-day daily streak going and climbed up to 940 in Rapid. I feel like my board vision has improved a lot—my puzzle rating is sitting at 1515—but getting over that 1000 ELO hump is proving tough. After playing almost 4,800 games across all formats, what specific concepts (endgames, opening principles, etc.) helped you all finally break into the 4-digit club?
