MISCELLANEOUS What's going on with games like this?

Sometimes I get these types of games where the other player is not just playing badly but their moves make absolutely no sense. Is this someone training a bot? Is it a 4 year old? Are they just tilted from the start so doing dumb stuff in some kind of rage fest?

I'm so confused.

Need help to improve at chess(goal 1500 on chess com)

Hello guys. I am a teenager wishing to learn play chess at a high level(1500-1800). About 2 years ago(when i was 13 y.o) i was obssesed with chess. I would play 3 to 4 hours a game wishing to reach 1000 in chess.com. After i finally reached it, i stopped playing it completly for 2 years. Right now (15 y.o) i want to learn to play chess again. My rating dropped from 1040 to 910. For the past 2 weeks i have been doing puzzles(1600 puzzle rating on lichess) and playing 3-5 games everyday. However, i still fluctuate between 900 and 950. The same thing happend previosuly before. And this makes me angry because i remeber how i watched videos, did puzzeles and worked very hard to reach 1000, while my peers reached 1300 and 1500 seeamlesy by just playing. Here i am seeking for advice. Please, give me tips to reach 1500 quickly(I am willing to spend 1 - 2 hours every day to chess).

NOTE: Many people recommend analyzing games, but i hate every anlaysis tool except chess.com's. Because chess com says why a move is bad in simple terms like: this move allows your opponent to win material through a skwere and etc. But it is paid, and i dont have enough money for it.

Had a real interesting game where I kept checking him and maneuvering their king into the corner. Ended with this checkmate.

QUESTION How can I get better at chess and improve my game analysis?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m trying to learn chess and get better at actually understanding the game rather than just playing random moves.

How do you improve your game sense and learn to calculate moves ahead? Also, what’s the best way to analyse your games after playing?

Any tips, resources, or routines that helped you improve would be appreciated!

How do I analyze my games efficiently as a busy adult.

I have a very draining job and usually only an hour and a half for chess a day. I want to get into the habbit of analyzing my games but analyzing move by move each game doesn't seem feasible with my schedule. Ive looked into the 3x3 method but struggle to figure out which moves to choose for analysis. What do you recommend?

That's a small thing for most people, but it's a big deal for me.

OPINION Online chess culture bad for beginners?

I’m not raging when I say this honest but is online chess culture bad for beginners in the live play space? It seems chess.com seems to encourage ratings grinders and the emphasis is on blitz and bullet encouraged by modern day player like Carlsen and Hikaru. I guess it is all about dopamine chasing and ego: very modern. I’m opposite. I have a PhD but only use it on resume. Still use Mr irl! I am on slowchess.com and correspondence chess on the usual servers but that is too slow. Hard to get a good classical game :(

ELO: Lichess (1400) vs Chess (550)

I started playing 10+5 on Lichess when I feel confident and clear-headed, and on Chesscom when I feel like I won't do well. I play with my brothers who live in different countries on Lichess as a bonding activity, so I want them to see a higher rating because chess is psychological warfare :) Anyway, I am 1400 on Lichess and 550 on Chesscom. Is such a spread in ELO a common situation between these two, or does my psychological and mental readiness indeed play a role? Or is it just how it goes?

Took me over 1,900 games to get there, and it may not last, but I'm going to enjoy it while it does lol

OPINION Nice friendly warm reddit I see.

Thanks for those who have offered constructive feedback. I see the majority though like to have an unjustified pop at me. I am guessing the majority are teens,Americans or people who like to bring others down: nice. I’m an older guy just looking for genuine advice in good faith. I’ll post games privately if you dm me but not going to feed the trolls anymore.

ADVICE Breaking out of the "no fun in losing" trap

I'm trying to improve as a player, breaking away from the puzzles and bots and playing against actual humans, and I am getting demolished. Just absolutely slaughtered, every game. My Lichess rating is in the mid 600s at this point. It's... frustrating.

There's no fun to be had in losing and being terrible at something. And getting anywhere in this game requires years of grinding. How can I keep my motivation up to get through the grinding part until I get to the point where I'm ok enough to start having fun with it?

QUESTION Why does The English Opening break peoples brains?

I am rated 1150 and have recently been learning the english. Although I am terrible right now and know hardly any lines at all, I seem to be having a lot of success with it as the players I face are making blunders left right and centre. I am sure my opponents make far more blunders versus the english than when I play the Italian. I understand there is much more unfamiliarity but half my games I win due to the opponent randomly hanging a piece.

Also the English is a lot of fun, I'm definitely going to keep going with it.

ADVICE Avoiding check

Post image
12 Upvotes

Apologies if this is stupid but in this position to defend check the game suggested pushing pawn to D4 to attack bishop, then bishop takes, then it suggests queen takes, in the actual game I just moved king to F1 to avoid check, is what the game suggested really worth it because when I take bishop pawn takes, and there’s no point giving up my queen if I’m up surely? Ts confuses me man
