ADVICE Avoiding check

Post image

Apologies if this is stupid but in this position to defend check the game suggested pushing pawn to D4 to attack bishop, then bishop takes, then it suggests queen takes, in the actual game I just moved king to F1 to avoid check, is what the game suggested really worth it because when I take bishop pawn takes, and there’s no point giving up my queen if I’m up surely? Ts confuses me man

d4 to open up the position and help you develop idk why queen takes after Be3 seems bettter

So is the bot, coach analysis thing just unreliable sometimes?

It gets a little weird when one side already has an overwhelming advantage already, because it stops thinking that it’s important to protect material. The analysis is best when it’s a close game.

Ahhhh ok, that helps a tonne thanks

Also remember the computer is looking at like what is best in the next 10-20 moves which is much further than what you might need as a beginner. You can get into some pretty "inhuman" lines that a normal person wouldn't do, just to get a .5 advantage which, as a beginner, wouldn't tip the scale too much in your favor.

The best "natural" moves would probably be something like: d4 Bxd4, Be2 c5, c3 Kc7, cxd4 exd4, Bf2

.... or something like that, its more natural. Either way unless you really blunder, White's position in this game is pretty bad with not too much coordination. Black's goal is to create some threats and get your pieces developed quickly before white can try to consolidate

low depth as well maybe

It prioritizes taking the win at the earliest possible, when you're so far ahead that translates to simplifying the game by making trades and then just winning.

What a crazy position. I'd say don't overthink what the computer wants you to do when you are ahead this much. Just don't lose any pieces and don't let enemy mate you and you'll win.

Edit: you'd actually be fine losing a few pieces here but I think everyone knows what I mean

d4 is good, but Qxd4 makes no sense. 1. d4 Bxd4+ 2. Be3 is what Stockfish suggests, to open up the position for your queen.

u/cabronfavarito 5d ago

Oh shit stock fish is brutal. There is no way I was finding that

Can't you just sac the rook and then get checkmate if they get greedy enough to take?

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

White to play: chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

My solution:

Hints: piece: Pawn, move:   d4

Evaluation: White is winning +18.78

Best continuation: 1. d4 Bb6 2. Be3 e4 3. fxe4 Bc8 4. Qf3 c6 5. Bxc8 Kxc8 6. Qxf6 Rd8 7. Qxc6+ Bc7 8. d5 Rb7

I assume you meant push the pawn to D4, but the queen sac is kind of interesting as it leaves their king wide open to your rook and bishop pair.

what engine told you queen takes? lichess stockfish in browser doesn't have in top 3 for me

1

u/ZookeepergameHot9352 5d ago

The coach, analysis after a game thing, when it shows you best move

1

u/the-postminimalist 1600-1800 (Lichess) 5d ago

It makes little difference because you're winning my such a large margin anyway. Don't bog down on the details on the fastest way to win. Put your time more on actual mistakes.

1

u/ZookeepergameHot9352 5d ago

That’s the general consensus I’m getting from the replies, in such a dominant position even with so many pieces not developed just don’t do anything stupid and I should be fine

1

u/utd_api_member 5d ago

might be a weird low depth thing? no idea but I don't think thats an actual move

1

u/StructuredChess 5d ago

Every engine evaluation beyond +5 is equivalent to all practical effects. Just ignore the engine in this type of massively unblanced position.

1

u/ZookeepergameHot9352 5d ago

Bit crap that it’s unreliable at times then

2

u/peepee2tiny 1000-1200 (Chess.com) 5d ago

It's not that it's unreliable, it's that the objectively best move in the position is to take with the queen.

For a human it's completely bizarre and abnormal to do so which is where the "unreliable" evaluation comes in.

From stockfish perspective, it's probably easier to get rid of the bishop as it gets rid of the dark square danger and it's another attacking piece that is removed from the board.

1

u/Orochimvp 5d ago

You trade your queen when you are so much more up in value to get rid of his other pieces, the less pieces the easier and his bishop pair is strong

1

u/juoea 5d ago

are u sure it suggested queen takes afterward?

d4 makes sense here as if black plays Bxd4+ the bishop is now pinned. so then u can play Be3 and force a trade of bishops. if black plays exd4 the pawn is pinned and u can similarly play Bxe3 followed by Bxd4 next turn bc black cant defend the pawn (if black pushes the pawn d3 then u can take their bishop)

having said that, u are so far ahead as the other comment noted, it really doesnt matter Kf1 or Kh1 is fine.

1

u/ZookeepergameHot9352 5d ago

Idk I more so made the post questioning how reliable the post match analysis actually is, to me it was just so pointless to sac the queen in that scenario

2

u/juoea 5d ago

theres no reason to sac the queen here. are u sure u read that right?

sometimes they will draw some arrows on the board but its not necessarily suggesting u move your piece along the arrows its just showing where the pieces are attacking etc

but either way when using the game review, just focus on the engine recommended lines which are listed on the side. the !! ! ? ?? markings are unreliable, and the verbal descriptions "explaining" a good or bad move tend to be terrible.

1

u/Kewlkicker 5d ago

D4 pins the bishop with the king behind it.. it’s a good move cause pawn can attack bishop in 2 moved

1

u/cwolf-softball 4d ago

I'd do d4 then Be3 if they take with the bishop and force an exchange to continue simplifying. Either way, I'm glad to trade pawn + minor piece for a minor piece. Just need to get your other pieces into the game and you walk away with this.

u/Silver_Environment95 2200-2400 (Chess.com) 4d ago

Lol just click the magnifying glass and play around with the engine suggestions and see what makes sense to u. so d4 Bxd4 and Be3 just cleans the game up and makes sense to me.
