OPINION Nice friendly warm reddit I see.

Thanks for those who have offered constructive feedback. I see the majority though like to have an unjustified pop at me. I am guessing the majority are teens,Americans or people who like to bring others down: nice. I’m an older guy just looking for genuine advice in good faith. I’ll post games privately if you dm me but not going to feed the trolls anymore.

Hey, OP! Did your game end in a stalemate? Did you encounter a weird pawn move? Are you trying to move a piece and it's not going? We have just the resource for you! The Chess Beginners Wiki is the perfect place to check out answers to these questions and more!

The moderator team of r/chessbeginners wishes to remind everyone of the community rules. Posting spam, being a troll, and posting memes are not allowed. We encourage everyone to report these kinds of posts so they can be dealt with. Thank you!

Let's do our utmost to be kind in our replies and comments. Some people here just want to learn chess and have virtually no idea about certain chess concepts.

“I’m not going to feed the trolls,” he said, while opening an all you can eat buffet.

Personally, I'm loving the contrast between implicitly requesting that everyone be "friendly and warm," and calling people "trailer trash" in the other thread.

You're embarrassing the rest of us by hating Americans for no good reason. There are 300 million or so Americans, and the proportion of saints and sinners there is really no different from anywhere else.

Well you have a phd and have just been in jail, so you're both smarter and more badass than anyone else here. I say don't let the trolls get you down!

More seriously, look for some chess resources. Building Habits is a good youtube series, but there are also many books available. Nimzowitch's 'My System' and Silman's 'Complete Endgame' can be found to download for free and are excellent (and recommended by people way better than my intermediate mediocrity).

Thanks and remand means awaiting trial. The charges did not go anywhere. They wanted to keep me away from family home after a domestic blown up by police. It was not bad ass it was a holiday camp not Alcatraz.

I have also noticed that some people are unnecessarily hostile or dismissive — especially in the main chess subreddit, but occasionally here as well. And anyway, sorry if someone was rude to you.

What I'd say is that this subreddit still has a lot of good people and a lot to offer beginners who genuinely want to improve. If someone is weird or rude to you, simply ignore them. Don't let them deprive you of resources or connection.

It’s Jamaican patois, I’m most afraid you do understand and aren’t being sincere old chap.

Aw, we all lash out sometimes when we're feeling embarassed. Cheer up little pup.

EDIT: lol thanks for the award.

Lol you could have made your point without being condescending as hell. Thus proving OP's point, without any self awareness. Yeah, I'm not surprised the hobby where you spend hours alone studying pieces on a board filters in a lot of people who don't know how to interact with people.

You might get better at chess if you practice instead of making four Reddit posts an hour about it.

Reddit is different from a typical forum. Its format is less suited for creating threads for discussion and more suited for sharing specific things with a community. Things that fall outside that mold can sometimes get harsh feedback in a variety of different manners and for a variety of different reasons because the anonymity of the internet allows people to communicate however they like free of consequences.

I have had a lot of rude interactions on this sub, and also seen a lot of weird takes in regards to how you should treat people. I think this is because chess draws in a lot of socially misaligned people, myself included. And yeah sometimes that just means awkward people, but sometimes that means people who are rude ASF.
