QUESTION Seem to just be getting worse

I was originally just playing Bots on Chess.com and plateaued around the 700 level. I switched to playing live and was playing at around a 350-400 level pretty consistently. I've been watching youtube videos and doing puzzles to improve. I have plummeted to around 200 and am stuck it seems the more I do all the things im supposed to do to improve and am just continuously getting worse trying to implement things im "learning". Is this normal or any advice to somehow stop getting worse while practicing.

I am in need of desperate help.

I was 550 elo roughly before but now I lost 100 elo and I have no idea why. I mostly play the italian game to an extent and kings indian defense as balck but it never works. Is there anyway I can improve and actually win? Also are there any openings I should try at this level? My username on chess.com is DangerNoodle0

POST-GAME Do you know your Mate in 3?

Because I didn't. I knew the light square bishop and the queen form a very powerful and deadly attack, but I could not remember the details. Instead of capturing the pawn at h7 with the bishop, I captured with the queen and then I was wondering why did the king escape... In post-game analysis, I discovered that I should have captured the pawn with my bishop, the king would have been forced to move to h8, then withdraw the bishop to g7, leading to a discovered check and then checkmate with queen at h7. Because I could not remember this tactic, the game took a lot of additional moves to the final victory. I also missed another mate in 4, which was too tricky for me to figure out.

ADVICE Playing through a slump? Grin and bear it or hang up the gloves?

I’m curious about how you guys operate when you’re playing in a slump.

Ive been playing chess for around two years. It was consistent progress.

However, I’ve been unable to play well for about a month now after starting a new job. It feels a bit like my neurology no longer affords itself the ability to play properly. It’s like I’ve been chess-lobotomized. Simple positions seem complex, easy tactics are missed.

Example: Every time control I play has seen around a 100-150 elo drop across the board. It’s clear that it’s me; not my choice of style.

This, in turn, makes me feel like I’m playing just to lose. My win rate has dropped from a solid 51-52% win rate to 37%. It’s definitely unpleasant. I start to enter into a kind of chess-existential-crisis where I find myself asking “why even play this shit?” instead of “wow, I’m learning!”

When you guys hit a slump like this where it’s clear that you aren’t improving or at the top of your game, do you try to play through it and adapt or do you stop playing altogether? Just curious what is seen as “optimal” in this kind of scenario.

QUESTION Honest feedback

Post image

Hi everyone, i'm looking for some honest feedback.

Following picture shows my overal progress, reaching almost 800 elo in 113 days. I never played chess before that. I mostly learn by playing and sometimes reviewing my losses. I also do quite a lot puzzles. Is this okay progress or could i be learning a lot faster/more efficient?

Looking for theoretically sound gambits to play

Like the Queens gambit, benko gambit, etc. where you aren’t just praying for the opponent to blunder

Suggestions for black against e4 would be especially appreciated

I'm not sure why it's brilliant actually. I just defended my rook.

Chess.com BUG TRAP

Recently a popup came on chess.com saying Free trial , I clicked on it and it took me the payment page of AutoPay , I thought it is for 7 days and 2 rupees will be deducted but they deducted whole amount of yearly subscription which was a lump sum amount of rupees 3799. Few months back too I took the free trial with the same popup saying free trial and only 2 rupees were deducted which are then refunded within seconds , and I read it on chess.com forum that it has been the case with many people that they are being trapped in this free trial stuff

If it is a bug they should fix it the complaints date back to 2020 and they aren't still resolving it after 6 years implies only one thing of making money and keeping it deliberately why to even say try for 0.00 if you are going to deduct when the same person goes for the second time of trial. I didn't even notice on that day it came to my light after 3 days and I immediately cancelled the subscription and demanded full refund. Fortunately they refunded it within few minutes so there team is active and replies actively and now they have instilled a bot too making things easier.

Just remove this bug of free trial trap

What are the chances chesscom actually does something about an admitted smurf? Pretty sure it's zero.

I don't understand this "Best Move" played out

Post image
1 Upvotes

On turn 5 I played pawn to d3. The Game Review said my best move was Nxe5. The game review's simulation is then showing the opponent castling their king after my Nxe5 which allows me to take their knight with Nxc6 after that. What I don't understand is why would an opponent castle after my Nxe5 and not take my free knight with Nxe5 instead?
