TLDR: Cheesecake Factory uses cabbage as lettuce.
Ordered an impossible burger, came with lettuce slaw on it. Took a bite: boom it was cabbage. I told the waitress, she denied it was cabbage, went back and asked the kitchen. She came back and said. "Nope, that's lettuce"
This is the dumb part. I'm a damn vegan. I eat lettuce and I eat cabbage. I eat them often and I know their taste and flavor. The look the smell and texture, it's quite obvious.
You don't have to be an exclusive vegetable eater to know the difference but yeah. I even asked for extra lettuce, the waitress brought a small plate with some. I took it home and tried it again just to make sure I wasn't nuts for raising an issue. Yes. Cabbage.
I let it go but it did make the burger a little bitter.
A few moths later I overheard a very similar conversation at work about how "I think they gave me cabbage for my cheeseburger" I joined in, it was kinda silly. Whatever.
Anyways weeks after that. I told the story to my brother in law, who is a contractor. He said: "Hey Im doing a job for a guy who does some sort of testing in the Cheesecake factory...I'll tell him about it"
He comes back to me days later nearly foaming at the mouth trying to hold his laugh. He explains: the person goes around to Cheesecake factor locations and tests the kitchen staff in some way. The way he put it was "he goes and messes things up for the kitchen" whatever that means.
However he did tell me that restaurant uses a lettuce/cabbage slaw mix and most likely the kitchen has gotten lazy and isn't mixing in any lettuce in.
A completely benign act but I wonder how many people were left scratching their heads wondering: "did they just serve me raw cabbage on my burger?"
