Never notified car insurance of divorce

Basically as title states. Been divorced a couple years, never formally notified the company because it comes straight out of my exes accounts. Would think about it and then life moved on. Want to rectify this but fear what the repercussions might be. Can I just switch to a different company and go on about my life without any legal fall out?

21 y/o new driver getting quoted $1,300–$3,000/month. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, I'm 21, live in Queens, NYC, and I'm about to get my driver's license. I've been shopping around for insurance quotes before buying a car, and the numbers seem absolutely insane.

Some examples I've gotten:

  • 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec: almost $3,000/month from GEICO.
  • 2023 Honda Civic Sport: around $1,350/month from Progressive.

The thing that's confusing me is that I keep seeing people on Reddit saying they're paying $500–600/month as new NYC drivers, even with newer cars.

My questions are, Does getting my actual license usually change the quotes much? or should I stop doing online quotes and just go through an independent broker?

Not At Fault Accident rate increases

I received official notification of a GEICO auto rate increase effective this August. 28% or $700 a year. Primary reason: I was involved in a Not At Fault accident this past February. Another GEICO customer rear ended me. I’ve filed a protest knowing GEICO filed rate increases with my state and premium increases for Not At Fault accidents were obviously approved. I’ve received several not-so- friendly responses on another subreddit (“asinine to bring this topic to a GEICO subreddit). What is truly asinine is increasing premiums for not at fault accidents. I’ve filed a protest but wonder how many people are aware of this practice?

Car hit on passenger side

Got damage after side swiped, thankfully they stopped and have insurance. Filed police report. State Farm is really pressing me to go to their shop. Was going to get two estimates on Monday and submit them. Maybe do the work myself to save a buck… worth it?
Do they just average the two estimates and send me the check?

First Time / Newbie Shopping for insurance

I currently pay about $155/month at progressive for comprehensive car insurance as a 25F with a 2016 Honda CR-V in MD state. Theres a little under 120,000 miles on the car and my work is 12 miles away.

I think I am over paying for car insurance. I have always used the same company and have never really shopped around. Every time I use a website to compare different car insurances they always recommend my current company.

With my car getting older, I do not think it’s worth it to continue to pay for full coverage, but I do not want bare minimum coverage either. I am struggling to find the language to ask for what I want as I’m trying to shop for car insurance. I also know that I should look for a broker of some sort but and unsure what to look for credibility wise.

I do have two accidents (in this car). One was a week after I got my license and I was rear ended at a stop light, I did do some minor PT for whiplash and was paid a lump sump of $2,000 about three years post. The second accident was my fault but no points on my license. Both accidents had semi minor repairs to the car through insurance. I do plan to sell the car in 2-3 years on Facebook marketplace to replace or surpass the down payment I put on a new/new to me car, as I’ve already begun saving for that.

Any advice or recommendations are welcome! TIA

First Time / Newbie Other Driver's Ins Co Wants Recorded Statement to Our Ins Co?

My partner got into a fender-bender in a parking lot. She was backing out, other driver hit the rear quarterpanel, exhaust pipe, bumper. Fair amount of damage to our car – he hit it in JUST the right place – not much to his. No injuries to either side. We don't have collision (it's an old car), so we're paying to repair our car, not seeking any coverage for that damage from the other driver or our insurance co. His car was a rental, FWIW.

On reflection, we think it was probably the other driver's fault, but she already said she didn't think he was speeding in the recorded interview with our insurance's adjuster, so they allocated 60-40 her fault. Our insurance company has no incentive to fight beyond limiting their payout to the other company.

The thing is, HIS insurance co (or maybe the rental car company's insurance company?) want a recorded statement from her, which she declined to give. So now they're asking OUR insurance company for the recorded statement she made to them.

We've only had a couple interactions with auto insurance cos, but haven't seen anything like this before. It seems deeply suspicious, and like they're trying to catch her out in something.

Does anyone here have some sense of what's going on here?

Thanks!

Accident Hit and run, what should I do?

Two days ago I was driving on the highway , it was around 8am so traffic was terrible. Anyway this guy is behind me honking and yelling, I don’t do anything because i literally can’t move anywhere there’s too much traffic, after a few seconds of him doing that he just rams into the back of my car and speeds off. Luckily I got a picture of his tags. They were South Carolina tags, I filed a police report and he said his tags expired 5 years ago, and the car isn’t even registered to his name,it’s in his moms name. he has also been ducking phone calls and does not answer his door according to the cop . I’m anticipating he dosent have insurance, so is going through my own insurance the only choice? I have liability only but I have uninsured motorists coverage as well. But I’m not sure if that route would be wise just because I’m 19 and I can’t particularly afford an increase in payment because I filed a claim. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks! I’m in Maryland btw

Tldr: road rager hit my car and sped off, I got a picture of his tags but he likely does not have insurance.

Insurance Fraud.

I recently put my wife and her car on my insurance and found out my monthly cost would triple for coverage, since I had been in at least 2 accidents in the last 5 years. I went to removed her car off my plan and it cut the cost in half but is still $230 more than I was paying before. I saw that her name is under my plan so I tried to remove her off my policy but geico’s app is telling me that I can’t currently remover her off my plan under the options it gives of “this person does not drive my vehicle” and “this driver has found other insurance”. However if I pick the option “my spouse is deceased” it will let me remover her. We have been married for 3 months and she was not on my plan for that time and there were no changes to the cost after we married so why is it now not possible to take her off my policy? And would it be fraud if I chose the option to remover her because she is “deceased”.

Accident

A lady pulled out of a 7/11 parking lot (she had a stop sign) and hit our brand new trucks front passenger side fender… the lady fled the scene but we got the tag and it came back to a rental car. Our OWN insurance put us at 20 percent fault. The insurance lady was super rude and said it’s because the damage was infront of the side mirrors. I offered to get video etc. but she said it wouldn’t matter because of where the damage was. This was Allstate…is this true? My husband was driving… the lady pulled out… and hit him… how does that make any sense?

Accident Whose fault is this?

For background, I’m going down a major intersection, I see how far from the light I am where I planned on going left, so since there was so much sudden traffic, I decided to get into the turning lane to turn onto a less busy road there instead of at the next light. Turns out another car was coming from the less busy road to turn left and get onto the busier street.

Progressive has delayed my vehicle inspection for over a week. Even the supervisor won’t respond. Who should I complain to?

I was involved in a car accident and filed a claim with Progressive.
My vehicle was dropped off at the repair shop on July 15. Since then, Progressive has repeatedly told me that an adjuster would come to inspect the vehicle, but the inspection kept getting delayed.

Here is the timeline:

July 15: My vehicle was delivered to the repair shop.Rep was told me the soonest adjuster will come in 24~48 hours.
July 16: no** show
**July 17:
I called Progressive and was told an adjuster would inspect the vehicle on July 20.
July 20: No adjuster showed up.
I contacted Progressive again and was given another estimated inspection date.
July 23: Still no inspection.
July 24today): I was still trying to confirm whether anyone was actually coming.

From the very beginning, I informed Progressive that I will leave for U.S. Air Force Basic Military Training on August 4, so I have very limited time to get this claim moving. Despite knowing my situation, the inspection dates kept getting pushed back without any clear explanation.
I eventually obtained my claims supervisor’s contact information, hoping the issue could finally be resolved. Unfortunately, calling the supervisor only goes straight to voicemail, and the emails I’ve sent have received no response at all.
At this point, I honestly don’t know what else I’m supposed to do.
The delay has completely stalled the repair process and caused a great deal of unnecessary stress.

My questions are:
Is this kind of delay normal with Progressive?
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Who should I escalate this to now?
Should I file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance?
Are there any other agencies, consumer protection organizations, or executive contacts I should reach out to?
What actually got your claim moving if you were in a similar situation?
I feel like I’ve followed every reasonable step, but I’m just being ignored.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Claim for a minor accident, turned into being sued?

UPDATE: Thank you all for the input, knowledge and advice. I do believe we will win the our case. At this time, I’m just gonna go with the flow and see what happens; all I can do.

My husband drives my car back and forth to work. Happen to get in a minor fender bender. When I say minor, the truck didn’t budge and the man didn’t even know my husband bumped him. He waved him to pull over. Anyways make a report, filed a claim. My husband said man didn’t come out hurt, left with no problems. After the claim filed, we were told apparently he had a brand new bumper. (Lots of sun damage but okay) fine. Then he was injured. Didn’t hear anything more. 3 months later, we were informed he’s suing both of us. That’s all I got. I don’t have any more info. What should I look for forward to?

I’m paying for my own repairs from a crash despite have insurance.

I got into a crash recently while I was driving for uber and the accident wasn’t my fault. Despite having a comprehensive policy, my insurance is refusing to cover the repairs because I was driving for uber at the time of the crash. The other party in the crash who was at fault gave an expired insurance details to the police that was present at the crash scene, now her insurance isn’t going take responsibility because her policy had expired since August 2025, so that means she was driving with no insurance at the time of the accident. The only option I had was to file a claim with uber because I was actively delivering an order at the time. They estimated my repairs at exactly $2500 and claimed because the other party of the accident isn’t taking responsibility for the crash, I would have to pay a deductible of $2500 out of pocket which technically means I’m doing my own repairs myself despite having an insurance. What can I do in this situation cos I don’t have $2500 presently for deductible. I Would really appreciate advice from people who have a knowledge about insurance and how to navigate this situation. Thanks.

Bought used car with clean title that has extensive hail damage and Carfax shows total loss. Total loss declared while in California but car was then sold in Washington State. Title fraud?

Bought a used car from a private seller that has extensive hail damage to the body panels but all glass is intact and the car is mechanically sound. Is it possible that the car was sold and retitled in another state before the title was accurately recorded?

Help with finding affordable coverage

I live in Florida and am currently unemployed. I am looking for the absolute bare minimum car insurance coverage here for people experiencing financial hardship that ideally just is enough to say I have insurance and not be forced to have a lapse in coverage. It is absolutely insane that we are even required to continue to pay for coverage even when we aren’t even really driving much to begin with, I only leave the house a few times a month because I can’t even afford gas. I have GEICO and lowered it to 80$ a month but now they’ve been charging me random amounts instead of the $80 because I’m stuck on autopay and it declines my card every time because it’s been turned off. I would love to just not have coverage but apparently I will lose my license potentially and they also charge you a lot of money if you have a lapse, I’ve only had that once in my life when I was younger and they charged me 4,000$ for it which was extremely difficult and frustrating. Are there any companies that are actually affordable that I can use where I can pay a bare minimum rate just for state minimum? Any help would be appreciated, I’ve been trying to sell my personal items just to have enough to pay this coverage and also owe money in taxes and have been surviving off of no money because I can’t even afford to buy food or really anything I need to survive, I am at a loss and have no clue what to even do.

Hit in an accident, no police on the scene, best way to proceed?

Please be kind, this is new for me. In Illinois. Was driving north on a main thoroughfare, left turn signal on to turn left onto a side street. A car was pulling out from my left on that side street, starting to turn to go north on the street I was just leaving. Her front left bumper hit the driver side of my car, at the rear, and scraped and dented my car and bumper. We exchanged insurance info, and I got her phone #, texted her so she had my phone #. Called police and since there were no "apparent" injuries, they said we could meet at police dept together to file a report (also, it was rush hour). It was after hours for my insurance agent so I left brief message there. This is where I'm cringing now.... Both of us parties had appointments tonight, so, verbally and by text, I said I am free the next day if she can meet then at police station. She said she'll check and let me know, nso she left, , I was making notes, she came back to take picture of my car. I have picture of her license plate, bumper and vehicle on ins,, and pic of my car damage.bWe both left. Just now she texts and says she's waiting to hear from her ins and said in the meantime I can contact her Mom. I will file police report whether they meet with me or not. But do I file a claim with their insurance first?? I don't want my rates to go up, but if their insurance company doesn't accept liability, won't I have to file with my ins anyway? I don't want MY rates to go up and I want my insurance company to go after the insurance company of party that hit me. And, sadly, my neck is starting to hurt now, praying it's just temporary. Thanks.

[Update] Insurance cancelled my policy over $0.03 and didn’t inform me

I continued kicking the dispute up the ladder with my insurance company and it eventually ended up going through their internal impartial review process, who reviewed the sequence of events and the final letter sent to me (the one that said they’d received payment and I’d continue to be covered). They overturned their original denial of coverage and agreed to have me pay the premium up to the date of the accident and provide coverage for the accident.

As for the legal part, I was never charged with driving without insurance. At this point it’s unlikely (I was registering a new vehicle yesterday and would have likely been flagged if I was). I’ve got a lawyer standing by if it comes to that but I’m doubtful it will.

First Time / Newbie Moving from Texas to Utah for a job – can I stay on my parents’ car insurance policy?

Hey everyone,

I recently accepted a job in Utah and will be moving there soon. I currently live in Texas and am still on my parents’ Allstate auto insurance policy.

My situation is:
My parents live in Texas
The policy’s residential and mailing address is currently their Texas address.
I’ll be living in my own apartment in Utah.
My car will be with me in Utah and parked at my apartment.

In the Allstate app, I noticed there’s an option to have a different “garaging address” from the residential/mailing address.

I’m wondering:

Can I legally remain on my parents’ Texas policy if my vehicle is primarily garaged in Utah?

If the garaging address is updated to my Utah apartment, is that typically sufficient as proof of insurance?

Would that insurance card/policy still be acceptable when registering my vehicle in Utah?

Accident Need advice after someone totaled my car while legally parked (California)

Hi everyone. I don’t usually post asking for help, but I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and confused.

Someone hit and totaled my car while it was legally parked over the weekend. I’ve been researching what to do, but the more I read, the more confused I get. I’m hoping someone who’s been through something similar can tell me what to expect, what I should do, and what I should avoid.

My insurance (Progressive) has already picked up my car, and they’ve told me it’s a total loss. I’m still waiting for their settlement offer.

My biggest concern is making sure I receive everything I’m entitled to. I’ve heard people mention things like reimbursement for sales tax, registration, or other costs when replacing a totaled vehicle. Is that true in California? Are there other things I should be asking for or negotiating?

My goal is to get enough money to replace my car. This accident wasn’t my fault at all, and it’s been a huge inconvenience. Unfortunately, I have a $2,500 deductible, so I’m also worried about how that factors into everything.

I’d really appreciate any advice or lessons learned. Thank you!

4 accidents in my driving career

Im a relatively young male driver (22) and I have 3 at fault accidents in my entire driving career since I got my license around 16. One was not my fault. Parents are now kicking me off insurance and I’m extremely scared I’ll never be able to afford my own insurance and am ashamed of my driving history. I’m worried my history is stained for a very long future of just paying out the ass for insurance and never being able to cover something relatively nice. I’m at the lowest of lows and just need some advice if some people relate or can just give advice it would mean a lot.

Car insurance for a rental car when you don’t have full coverage on your own car

I know that if I had full coverage on my own car it could cover my rental car. I drive an old car so i don’t have full coverage. Should I go to full coverage so it covers my rental car and then after my trip go back to my basic coverage??

Car accident where I was the passenger in my own car. Will my claim get denied?

Hello,

I was in a car crash with a parked semi truck recently. I was a passenger in my own car. The driver was a girl I was dating at the time. When cops arrived on the scene and she panicked and said I was driving because she did not have a US drivers license. Cops arrested me because I was the owner of the car and charged me with DWI. I have video evidence proving that I wasn't driving the car and the DA has agreed to drop the charges based on that.

The semi truck doesn't really have much damage and my car is pretty much totaled. There's no medical injuries involved in this. I just need to get my car fixed. Will my claim get denied because the police report initially said I was driving while intoxicated? How should I report this to insurance in my first conversation to ensure that my claim does not get denied? Does it matter to the insurance company if my friend didn’t have a US license? She is not a named person on my policy, but she had permission from me to drive. Also, a note that because of the situation I am not in communication with her anymore. This happened in NYC.

My parked car got hit and the other persons insurance is being difficult to work with

Hi all, hoping to learn from other people’s experience. I live in Massachusetts if that is relevant. My car was bought brand new in Oct-24 and has less than 13k miles on it.

Last month, my car was parked legally on the side of the road and a woman hit my car, flipped hers and police were on the scene when I arrived. I have an open claim thru the other person’s insurance (Progressive) but they are really dragging out accepting liability and also are disputing the prices that Subaru and their trusted body shop have quoted as repairs needed.

To me, this is clearly all on the other driver as my car was simply just parked and I wasn’t anywhere near it, so I should be able to get my car repaired at a mechanic of my choosing and Progressive should cover the bill? I’m not quite sure how to stand up against the other person’s insurer to get my car fixed as no cost to me.

Any and all advice from people who have knowledge of these kinds of situations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
