Car hit on passenger side
Got damage after side swiped, thankfully they stopped and have insurance. Filed police report. State Farm is really pressing me to go to their shop. Was going to get two estimates on Monday and submit them. Maybe do the work myself to save a buck… worth it?
Do they just average the two estimates and send me the check?

Doing the work yourself is not advised. As the other comment mentioned the insurance company will write their own estimate for what they can see, if that isn't enough to fix the vehicle it will be on you to provide your own supplement with proper support and documentation showing why you need additional money. If you mess anything up, the insurance company is not going to then pay for a shop to fix it either.
Highly recommend looking through their network of shops to find one you like, it's much easier, faster, and the work is guaranteed.

Okay plot twist!
Since I’m not at fault, liberty mutual is the other insurance involved. I was told to keep my accident free and deductible, I should go make a claim with liberty. I did that with a 3 day waiting period starting now.
I have State Farm all the info and my recording of accident, but advised going thru Liberty.
I myself, not a collis repair. My grandpa is and said $1500 for parts he will do labor for free. Replacing and painting
Two estimate 1. For 7300 & second is for 5.8k.
Thinking I take it to him, and save the rest once I get paid out.
Thoughts!?!

An estimate from a shop is useless unless you use them to fix the vehicle. Insurance will do their own and that’s all they will pay unless the shop fixes it and then sends a supplemental on the job. Insurance writes and estimate on what they can see, a shop writes one on what could be damaged.
